Born in [[Blackpool, Cork|Blackpool]], [[Cork (city)|Cork]], Mulcahy first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team before later joining the junior side. Mulcahy first played for Cork as a member of the minor team on 1 July 1951 in a 1-9 to 2-3 Munster quarter-final defeat of [[Clare GAA|Clare]]. He was also at midfield in the semi-final defeat of [[Tipperary GAA|Tipperary]], however, Mulcahy was dropped from the starting fifteen for the [[Munster Minor Hurling Championship|Munster]] decider defeat of [[Limerick GAA|Limerick]]. He was also confined to the substitutes' bench for the [[All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship|All-Ireland]] final triumph over [[Galway GAA|Galway]].

In 1952 Mulcahy was eligible for the minor grade once again, however, Cork's championship campaign ended with a defeat by Tipperary in the Munster semi-final.

Three years later and Mulcahy as at full-back on the Cork junior team. He won a [[Munster Junior Hurling Championship|Munster]] medal that year following a 5-10 to 4-4 defeat of Clare. On 1 October 1955 Cork faced [[Warwickshire GAA|Warwickshire]] in the All-Ireland decider. A huge 6-10 to 0-2 trouncing gave Mulcahy an [[All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship]] medal.

After the creation of a completely new junior team the following year, Mulcahy was back in 1957, however, Cork's championship campaign ended with a defeat by Limerick in the provincial decider.

Mulcahy made his senior championship debut on 21 June 1959 in a 4-13 to 1-3 Munster semi-final defeat of Clare. Gerald Mulcahy (1934 – 9 November 1994) was an Irish hurler who played at club level with Glen Rovers and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a defender.

Career

Mulcahy first came to prominence as a hurler with the Glen Rovers club on Cork's northside. He was only 16-years-old when he won a Cork JHC title in 1950. He later won a Cork SHC title with the senior team in 1959, having already won a Cork SFC with sister club St. Nicholas' in 1954. Mulcahy was a dual player when he first appeared on the inter-county scene at minor level. He was a reserve when Cork won the All-Ireland MHC in 1951 before winning a Munster MFC title in 1952.[1][2] Mulcahy won an All-Ireland JHC title in 1955 and was one of seven players who made their senior team debut when Cork were beaten by Waterford in the 1959 Munster final.[3][4]
