Recently many persons writing/Research about Thirumalaikoil and noted the Thalapuranam written by Murugadasan. They don't know about the Legend. But lot of his books available with Tamil Prof. Dr. Avvai Natarajan, now residing at Chennai.

There is one more goddess temple within this temple, called 'Thirumalai amman'. This hill temple is surrounded by lot of coconut plantations and small villages.

Until recently, the only way for devotees to reach the temple was by walking. The temple is also famous for its large number of steps(624). Recently, a road was constructed which enables people to go by two and four wheelers until the temple at the top.

Thirumalai Kuravanji and Thalapuranam was written by Poet MURUGADASAN T.V. THIRUMALAYANDI KAVIRAYAR. who lived in POIGAI, Tenkasi Taluk, about 20 km. distance from Thirumalaikoil. The song written particular time was not properly known, but sure it was happened in the year of 1900 to 1939. It was known from his other books/songs of "DEEPALAKSHMI PATHIGAM" written on 02-02-1939 and Printed in Sri Ramanujam Press, Tenkasi.

Murugadasan T.V. Thirumalayandi Kavirayar (Theena Vaiyanna Thirumalaiyandi Kavirayar) was well known person in the District and close friendship with Seithur Samasthanam Sevakapandiya Maharaja, and Chattanatha Karayalar, in Shencottah.
He wrote many Poems and Books, "KANDI KATHIRESAN SATHAGAM" was one them. Some Books were collected by Tamil Prof. Thiru Avvai Natarajan, now living in Chennai. Murugadasan T.V.Thirumalayandi Kavirayar, built a Murugan Temple in his birth place of POIGAI-627856. (SALAI MURUGAN KOIL) located in the main Road of Sankarankoil-Sendamaram-Tenkasi Road) T.V.T.Kavirayar survived two male children, Seeni Ayya Thevar was elder and Selvasamypandian, Tamil Pandit was younger.
Anyone can collect these details in his birth place of POIGAI [ VIA. - Tenkasi > Idaikal > Poigai > Sendamaram > Sankarankoil] 20km.away from Tenkasi and 25 km. from Sankarankoil.

Thirumalai Kovil is a Murugan temple situated at Panpoli,[1] Sengottai in the Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is about 100 km from Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is situated on a small hill surrounded by the Western Ghats near the border with Kerala.
