I believe it should be mentioned that at this time, the Lightyear trailer uploaded by the Pixar Youtube channel has 8.3 million views. The 83 million views that is sourced in the Hollywood Deadline article is erroneous. I check pages listed in :Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of :Lightyear (film)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Homosexual Content Controversy?
Should the controversy over Pixar's decision to include homosexual content in children's entertainment be covered? 人族 (talk) 00:14, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
:The content is already in the article and it is most certainly not a controversy--CreecregofLife (talk) 02:29, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
::Including non-PG content in a kids film absolutely is controversial, which is probably why it was noted in several articles around the world. Not sure how I missed the paragraph. Missed the tree for the forest? 人族 (talk) 00:09, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
:::It's not non-PG content. The reason it has articles is because it's positive representation, and not controversy. In fact, it was in the midst of Chapek being under fire for donating to a Florida anti-LGBTQ legislation. CreecregofLife (talk) 03:28, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
:::: Er yes it absolutely is non-PG. Yes some articles support such content, others are aghast at the controversial inclusion. It simply depends on which side of the news spectrum you're reading. As for Florida's "anti-LGBTQ" legislation, you mean the Don't Groom Kids\anti-grooming bill as it's referred to elsewhere? Think this is getting off track to be honest. 人族 (talk) 02:51, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
:This should be a controversy solely for plot reasons alone, if this is intended as a kids movie set in 1995, there is no way there would be a homosexual kiss. Pretty sure homosexuality was still illegal at that time. == Alicia Hawthorne Real Name ==

There is a Leak in Twitter and Uzo Aduba's Hawthorne Character First Name is not Alicia, But Alisha. Link here https://twitter.com/bttfrare/status/1511722927841943553?cxt=HHwWgoCpjcr_2_opAAAA

:At this point it is hard to say if I agree or disagree with that claim as different websites currently give different names (IMDB, Behind the Voice Actors. The current source 6 (i.e. Collider lists no names of these characters barring Buzz Lightyear. Using a source with the names of these characters would solve that part of the problem.
:I don't know much about the film to say which one of these two names are correct, if any. Either way, we should consider that source 6 only gives out a list of actors without the names of these characters and should only be visible to us if a source is available and reliable. Having a look at the article, there are two months left till release day so something should be agreed to what Uzo Aduba's character name is. ::Also by checking Uzo Aduba, the role she voices is just "Hawthorne", it wouldn't make sense to drop all the first names in the voice cast since there is another Hawthorne listed there. "the Turnip’s escape trajectory is compromised by Buzz" - how?

[edit]

The article says that "the Turnip’s escape trajectory is compromised by Buzz". How, exactly? I didn't see him do anything that doomed the escape flight (though he blames himself for it). - Brian Kendig (talk) 22:14, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Plot - new fuel crystal?

[edit]

"With a new fuel crystal created using the computer left behind during the mutiny..." Is there a source for this? You never see a replacement new crystal, and the computer is damaged during the mutiny ("The formula!" gasps Sox. Of course there should be backups and Sox himself should remember it, but still.) Is there a novelization stating this or something? RevWaldo (talk) 05:34, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I noticed the edit warring over including this category. There is a lesbian couple in the film: Alisha Hawthorne and Kiko. Their kiss is the first same-sex kiss shown in a Pixar feature: "‘Lightyear’ same-sex couple is part of an evolution at Pixar" (The Washington Post, June 17, 2022). The inclusion of lesbian characters resulted in the film being banned in 14 countries: "Pixar’s Lightyear banned in 14 countries over same-sex kiss" (The Independent, 14 June 2022) + "Lightyear’s same-sex kiss – the controversy that led to Disney’s first ‘real’ LGBTQ+ representation" (The Conversation, June 16, 2022). And don't forget: Commander Hawthorne is a significant character and Lightyear's best friend. Pyxis Solitary (yak yak). Ol' homo. 05:01, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
