D.J. is the eldest child of Danny and Pam Tanner. She was raised by her father, uncle Jesse Katsopolis, and her father's friend Joey Gladstone after her mother died in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. At the beginning of the series D.J. is in the fifth grade at Fraiser Street Elementary, and by the end she is a senior at Bayview High School. She also attended Van Atta Junior High. D.J. is an intelligent student though she had trouble in her junior high Spanish class. She is devastated when she doesn't get into her dream school, [[Stanford University|Stanford]] but is gracious when she gets into her second choice, [[University of California, Berkeley|UC Berkley]]. When her uncle Jesse starts dating Rebecca Donaldson the two become close. Becky gives her advice on things such as boys and makeup. She was a bridesmaid at Becky and Jesse's wedding. D.J. has a typical sibling relationship with her sisters Stephanie and Michelle. Though they sometimes do not get along and fight with each other, they still love and look out for each other. One instance is when Stephanie wanted to go out for a joy ride with a reckless driver D.J. stops her because of the danger. D.J. ended up saving her life because the driver wrecked causing him, another boy, and Gia Mann to be injured. |

Steve moves into his own apartment after graduating high school so D.J. starts hanging out there which Danny doesn't like. By the end of the seventh season they grow apart and break up. |
||
At the beginning of season eight D.J. briefly went out with her rich classmate, Nelson Burkhardt. Jesse starts a new band after being kicked out of the Rippers, and D.J. starts dating the guitarist Viper. Danny and Jesse finds out which infuriates them. There is some tension between the two when he reads at a slower pace as her. Viper later breaks up her but after him and Nelson fight for her affection she chooses neither one of them. When D.J.'s senior prom rolls around she doesn't have a date so Kimmy goes on the hunt to find her one. As they're ready to leave for the prom Kimmy tells her that her date couldn't make it but she found another one...Steve. |

In between the two series D.J. was married to a firefighter, Tommy Fuller. They had three sons; Jackson, Max, and Tommy Jr. A year before ''Fuller House'' begins, Tommy lost his life while out on a call. Months later a divorced Steve Hale wants to get back with D.J. but she turns him down because it's too soon. In season two D.J. begins dating her co-worker Matt Harmon, and Steve begins dating a woman named C.J. who is exactly like D.J.. At the end of the season Steve proposes to C.J.. In season three everybody goes to Japan for the wedding. On the way there Matt tells Stephanie he plans to propose to D.J. while in Japan. Elsewhere on the plane D.J. who is wearing a sleep mask tells Kimmy that she feels like she is losing her soulmate (Steve) but unbeknownst to her Kimmy and Steve switched seats. So Steve heard what she said. They get to Japan and Matt proposes to D.J. which she accepts. Steve who is standing behind some nearby bushes witness it. At the alter Steve calls off the wedding and Matt suggests to D.J. that they should marry right then and there. She says no and breaks up with him. When they get back home D.J. and Steve decided to wait a month before they start things up again. In season four they officially get back together. In the first part of season five they get engaged, and in the series finale get married. |
|||
D.J. moves back into her childhood home. Jesse, Beck, and Joey move back as well to help with the boys. Months later when Joey moves back to Vegas, and Danny, Becky and Jesse move to L.A. with new jobs D.J. gets sad. Her dad takes the house off the market and gives it to her. Stephanie, Kimmy and Kimmy's daughter, Ramona move in to help. |
