The "Yogi Mantle" section that mentioned a 'bear documentary' (as well as a homosexual innuendo) was not only unsourced, but completely innappropriate. I also couldn't find a single independent article or reference to support these claims either. Deleted.

To my knowledge, Cussler has not appeared/'held' any book signings since mid-to-late 2016. At one of the last ones I attended in late 2015 / early 2016, it seemed/appeared to me that he had a little difficulty 'getting with the flow' at the start of the book signing session, but seemed to improve at time passed.

'Normally,' when a new book comes out, a local (Scottsdale, AZ) bookstore holds a signing/release 'party', but it hasn't held one in over a year and there have been at least three books released.

Though he's not a spring chicken, I'm curious if there might be a medical reason why he has not made any public appearances in over a year.

I've started adding information on Cussler's shipwreck finds to the respective articles, each with a link to the NUMA webpage that describes it. The NUMA site doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards for verifiability, though, so I'm forced to couch the info in language like "Cussler claims...." Help verifying this stuff would be appreciated. == THE HUNLEY ==
Tone & NPOV
Goodness, but this sounds flak or fan-written. Encyclopedia articles not only should, but must, list accomplishments and acclaim when it is significant. Significance has to be assessed on scarcity at the time (how uncommon was it to win this placement/prize compared to how many sought it? (aka "competitive")) and repute inside a field and outside of a field (e.g. everyone reports on a Nobel or Field medal win; a top honor from the IEEE may not be as reported/famous outside of electrical engineers, but it would be very significant within).
I am currently eading RAISING THE HUNLEY and it is stated that the CSS HUNLEY is a misnomer as the ship was built as a privaterr, and was never commissioned.

What isn't of particular significance these days, in particular, is achieving any best seller/top 40 list. These things matter in a way, but this is predicated on the ad populis notion that the opinion of the masses is an assessment of value (the Ford F-150 is the #1 selling truck in the USA for decades; is it the best truck? is it the most affordable? is it the most available?).

Anecdotes of the early married life? The "struggles?" These are celebrations. Again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with such language in a public relations or advertising copy, but it adds bulk to an encyclopedia article without helping with an encyclopedia article's purpose.

2. Why is this person important to me?
3. How did this person, who is/was just a normal human, become important?
4. What substantial effects are left by the passage of this individual (in the case of a bio. piece)?

Birthplace
Self-referential links
There seems to be just about equal representation on the web that place Clive Cussler's birthplace either in Aurora, Illinois or in Alhambra California. It seems likely to me that the articles referencing Alhambra mistakenly placed his birthplace there because he mentions that he grew up there as a boy. I decided on a couple of websites to reference that place his birthplace in Illinois though they are far from definitive. --Ulysses411 00:09, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Metric System
I remember trying to read a copy of Inca Gold but being unable to because every distance was rendered in both English and metric units. Is this specific to that work, or does he do this in all his novels? * Um... what? Could you clarify this? There is no mention that a jury found he had misrepresented his readership by 250%: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/book-publishers-will-escape-legal-650628. == Degree ==

The claim that the author was awarded a doctorate by an accredited university for publishing a non-fiction book seems incredible. The reference given for the information is the author's own website.

However, the university web site acknowledges the degree though not why it was granted. This would be a better source for the information.

As others have noted, this is a very upbeat article. == Second wife ==

In the section "Personal life," there's no mention of Cussler's second wife Janet Horvath. Why?

Granted, they've kept the date of their marriage a secret and that his kids were not in favor of it, but is that any reason not to mention her?

She was mentioned as a fiance in a 16 May 2007 article when the court battle over the "Sahara" movie ended and mentioned as his wife in a 2 June 2010 article.2600:8800:50B:6700:C23F:D5FF:FEC5:89B6 (talk) 09:16, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Cussler is the "editor of record" for the book "Thriller 2: Stories You Just Can't Put Down" (506 pages) published by MIRA in 2009 (ISBN-13: 978-0-7783-2723-3) yet the book is not listed among his works. Why?

Granted, the book is a thriller anthology ("Twenty-three bestselling and hot new authors...." from the dust jacket blurb) for which Cussler also wrote the Introduction. Still, shouldn't it be listed? 2600:8800:50B:6700:C23F:D5FF:FEC5:89B6 (talk) 09:34, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Cable TV series
Why no mention of the USA network / National Geographic International Television series "Clive Cussler's The Sea Hunters: True Adventures with Famous Shipwrecks"? Especially since it ran for FIVE seasons and was seen in 172 countries?

Granted, Cussler only did the episode intros and wrap-ups and James P. Delgado did the onsite "reporting," is that any reason not to mention the series?

Also, Delgado wrote a book, "Adventures of a Sea Hunter: In Search of Famous Shipwrecks" (published by Douglas & McIntyre, 2004, ISBN 1-55365-071-9; AKA "In Search of Famous Shipwrecks: Adventures of a Sea Hunter" published by MJF Books, 2004, ISBN-13: 978-1-56731-893-7, ISBN-10: 1-56731-893-2) which is "based on 'Sea Hunters' episodes and on Delgado's own underwater explorations" [quote is from dust jacket blurb]. And, Cussler wrote the book's Forward.

So, how about including some kind of mention of this series? 2600:8800:50B:6700:C23F:D5FF:FEC5:89B6 (talk) 10:06, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Health issues ?

[edit]

Symbols

[edit]

The book lists have lots of symbols — *, †, ††, § etc. I assume that they indicate the various co-authors, but there is no key — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 20:49, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

In the section "Fargo Adventures" most of the links refer back to the section head; there are no articles about the books. Is there any legitimate reason for this, or shall I delete these links? J S Ayer (talk) 01:40, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
