==Biography==
His parents are Kurt and Sherry Kuykendall. His father was inducted into the American University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997 and was a 1973 All-American goalkeeper. [[Kurt Kuykendall]] played for the [[Washington Diplomats]] and the [[New York Cosmos (1971–1985)|New York Cosmos]] in the [[North American Soccer League (1968–1984)|NASL]]. Both parents attended [[American University]], Washington D.C.

The Kuykendalls have a rich family history in American University soccer; Shawn's brother, JP, played on the AU squad from 2004-2008. His other brother, Kris, is a 2003 graduate of AU and was co-captain of the 2002 team.

*Joined American University and continued his career as a midfielder. During an interview in his senior year in college Shawn said "It inspires me everyday to walk through [[Bender Arena]] and see my father's plaque."
