Hello, I am requesting to edit the section on the Chelsea F.C. Page that explains the club's various rivalries. I would just like to add more information explaining why Chelsea has recently developed rivalries with Liverpool and Manchester United over the past two decades. I promise to use reliable sources whilst editing this. Thank you. MattCassar28 (talk) 17:15, 16 August 2022 (UTC) |

::My apologies. I would like to remove the line in the first paragraph that mentions Chelsea's developing rivalry with Liverpool in the section titled "Rivalries" and instead create a new paragraph underneath the first one explaining that the rivalry with Liverpool developed due to repeated clases in cup competitions, then go into detail regarding the various meetings the two teams have had, such as the 2005 Champions League Semi-final, the 2005 League Cup Final and the meeting at Anfield in the 2013-14 Premier League and explain the outcomes of each. See The controversial moments that have fuelled Liverpool's rivalry with Chelsea by Liverpool Echo ("While Liverpool have historically shared heated rivalries with Manchester United and Everton, the dislike towards Chelsea has been a relatively modern development.") and How Liverpool v Chelsea became one of the fiercest rivalries of the 2000s by planetfootball ("There is no geographical or historical reason why Liverpool and Chelsea should have any sort of dislike of each other, but for a while in the 2000s their rivalry was one of the most entertaining in English football.") Suggested wording with citations: |

::Over the last two decades, Chelsea has developed a strong rivalry with Liverpool F.C. following repeated clashes in cup competitions. The first notable match between the two was the 2005 League Cup Final, which Chelsea won 3-2. This match was made famous by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho being sent off for making a 'shush' gesture to the Liverpool fans after Chelsea equalised. Liverpool and Chelsea then went on to meet in the semi-finals of the 2005 and 2007 Champions Leagues, with Liverpool winning on both occassions. The 2005 meeting was notable in that Liverpool winger Luis Garcia scored a controverial goal with his hand in the 4th minute, which helped the Reds win. Another famous meeting between the two occured at Anfield during the 2013-14 Premier League Season, in which Liverpool were battling both Manchester City and Chelsea for the Premier League title. This match was marked by Gerrard's infamous slip while receiving a pass which allowed Chelsea striker Demba Ba to score, resulting in Chelsea winning the game 2–0 and costing Liverpool the title. Other factors that fuelled the rivalry include Fernando Torres's move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011 and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard almost transferring from the Reds to the Blues in 2005 before eventually declining. |
|||
::I also want to add another paragraph underneath the aformentioned paragraph explaining Chelsea's recently developed rivalry with Manchester United, which occured due to competitions for titles such as the 2009-10 Premier League and the 2008 Champions League Final. See Chelsea vs Manchester United Rivalry & History by UKBettingSites ("... a big part of what has created a rivalry between Manchester United and Chelsea, given that the two teams have been competing for the top honours in the latter stage of the Premier League era.") Suggested wording with citations: |
|||
::Another notable rivalry Chelsea has developed in recent times is with Manchester United, this again being due to repeated heated meetings between the two. The two teams fought for the Premier League title in the 2005-06 and 2009-10 seasons, with Chelsea winning the title on both occasions (the latter of which was won by just a single point). Other high-profile meetings between the two include the 2008 Champions League final, which United won on penalties, the 1994 FA Cup Final which United won 4-0 and the 2007 and 2018 editions of the FA Cup Final in which Chelsea won 1-0 in both. The rivalry has extended to the players as well, such as a rivalry developed between Chelsea defender John Terry and Man United defender Rio Ferdinand, as both were considered world-class English centre-backs at the time. MattCassar28 (talk) 20:19, 16 August 2022 (UTC) |
