The use of notes is not "idiotic", as you claimed in this inappropriate edit summary. As well as being a violation of MOS:BOLD, the use of bold to identify cars presents an accessibility issue. Some screen readers will be unable to parse the bold text and vision impaired readers will see a note that says "Entries in bold were tested on-screen", but they won't know which cars are in bold. Use of notes is far preferable for this reason. Wikipedia has to be readable by all readers, not just those with 20:20 vision. --<span style="color:#008751;">Aussie</span><span style="color:#fcd116;">Legend</span> (<big>✉</big>) 18:15, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

::> Have you seen English possessive?
Thank you for critiquing my updates on the article and I will work to improve it to an acceptable Wikipedia standard. I am new to Wikipedia's encyclopedic style and will learn as I go. However, can I request that you make references to the passages you are commenting on, on the articles talk page. Could you also, where practical, provide links to articles you feel reflect the style that is correct. I am intending to be prominent in my wiki writing so am embracing the learning opportunities. ::I have. As of the twenty-eighth day of July of 2024, the article contains the following sentence: Singular nouns ending in s also form a possessive regularly by adding s, as in Charles's or boss's.
*Thank you for your response, I will continue to rewrite until acceptable standards are reached RokkoRokkoRokkanno (talk) 22:06, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
::> Also, why would you default to an obscure American university style guide [...]
::In my experience as an opinionated grammarian, Purdue OWL has been a pretty good resource and tends to highlight differences and similarities between popular style guides. I was actually going to mention that the APA style guide offers a similar recommendation for possessives for singular nouns which end in "s", but Purdue OWL already mentioned this fact.
::> [...] instead of the standard English usage?
::What is the standard English usage? What is standard English, anyway? Andrewchawk (talk) 02:40, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

Please stop adding in tour dates into the article, as that need to be in its own article, not in an article about a studio album. It is considered undue weight per WP:UNDUE, as well to note that filling it in would be WP:INDISCRIMINATE. In regards to the tour, it is supported by a single source, which is not enough to make that section in particular notable, see WP:NTOUR. Information icon Hello, I'm MichaelMaggs. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Eggcorn, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. MichaelMaggs (talk) 07:53, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On the Use of "'s"

[edit]

I currently stand by my reverting of your change, but swaying my opinion might be possible.  :-)

> 1. this isn't pluralisation but a genitive;

You are correct. I used the wrong word despite referencing a material which actually used the correct word.

> 2. common nouns ending in -s take a genitive in -s', proper nouns take -s's;

What style guides are you using? I referenced Purdue OWL when I reverted your change.

> 3. nouns in -s form plurals in -es.

You are correct.

Have you seen English possessive? Also, why would you default to an obscure American university style guide instead of the standard English usage? – Dyolf87 (talk) 09:36, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
> Have you seen English possessive?
I have. As of the twenty-eighth day of July of 2024, the article contains the following sentence: Singular nouns ending in s also form a possessive regularly by adding 's, as in Charles's /ˈɑːrlzɪz/ or boss's.
> Also, why would you default to an obscure American university style guide [...]
In my experience as an opinionated grammarian, Purdue OWL has been a pretty good resource and tends to highlight differences and similarities between popular style guides. I was actually going to mention that the APA style guide offers a similar recommendation for possessives for singular nouns which end in "s", but Purdue OWL already mentioned this fact.
> [...] instead of the standard English usage?
What is the standard English usage? What is standard English, anyway? Andrewchawk (talk) 02:40, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I just encountered Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Possessives and was reminded of this exchange. Andrewchawk (talk) 10:58, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tour dates in About Face (album) article

[edit]

Please stop adding in tour dates into the article, as that need to be in its own article, not in an article about a studio album. It is considered undue weight per WP:UNDUE, as well to note that filling it in would be WP:INDISCRIMINATE. In regards to the tour, it is supported by a single source, which is not enough to make that section in particular notable, see WP:NTOUR. HorrorLover555 (talk) 13:12, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited ...And Then There Were Three... Tour, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kiel Opera House.

December 2024

[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Ahsoka (TV series), did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. You are edit warring and being disruptive. You boldly removed details from the article that are supported by the source and standard additions. No reasoning was given for the removal other than you disliking how the text is written. Stop edit warring, restore the article, and take your concerns to the talk page. adamstom97 (talk) 11:07, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Ahsoka (TV series) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
