}}hey girlypop. Barbie, as you know, is a famous doll influencing a long time of feminism, toys and such. Obviously, she has 250 careers and a genius, probably. Unfortunately, she has not always been such good. In about the early years of barbie, Mattel (maker of barbie) released 'Slumber party Barbie' doll. It was accessorized with a small, tiny book for dolls. It was titled 'How to lose weight' and had nothing in it apart from 'don't eat.' Because the children's toy industry never backs down on an opportunity to give young girl eating disorders, obviously. Neither can the women's clothing industries. 7-8-9-6? Blady, blady, blady, blah. Like honestly, this would not be approved by Marlin Monroe, the inspiration for the first barbie book, though today's barbies don't resemble her in any way.She passed in 1962, Marilyn. That was 3 years before the doll came out. She was flattered seeing the first doll in 1959.Did I mention there were scales in the slumber barbie set that has scales set to 50kg!

"In 2020, Mattel sold $1.35 billion worth of Barbie dolls and accessories, and this was their best sales growth in two decades. This is an increase from the $950 million the brand sold during 2017."

Barbie is given as an example of "Just in Time" manufacturing in the book The Box by Marc Levinson in chapter 14. * MountVic127 (talk) 07:28, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Can this be removed? The Bloomberg source cites Mattel's annual reports but I can't find where this is info is mentioned in those reports. Timur9008 (talk) 14:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

regarding this reversion: the state judiciary is incredibly relevant in the context of women’s history and at least two cast members (Ana Cruz Kayne<ref>{{cite web |title=Supreme Court Justice Barbie Says It’s ‘So Important’ to Talk About Abortion 1 Year After Roe v. "During a trip to Europe in 1956" change to During a family trip to Switzerland in 1956"
i understand the instinct behind this change. but there is a certain subtlety here: Barbie is not a single product, but a gestalt system of related products and services. it is not incorrect per-se to say Mattel generates the revenue. but it is more informative to say that Barbie generates the revenue. it is like saying iPhone generates much of its revenue from smartphone sales and app store fees. you could also say Apple generates the revenue. but why say that and not iPhone?

: i’m well aware Barbie is not a real person, and it seems you have a somewhat incorrect assumption of what i am trying to argue here. let’s replace Barbie with something less entangled in the current culture war, like Epcot. the Walt Disney Company is the company that owns Epcot. the Walt Disney Company is the company that makes all the money. but the Walt Disney Company makes money from a lot of different properties besides Epcot. it’s not really helpful to the reader to frame everything about Epcot in the context of the Walt Disney Company. and if you take a look at the article for Epcot, in the lead section it says:
*done: Various sources say that it was during a trip to Switzerland, eg BBC Time.--<span style="background:#88b;color:#cff;font-variant:small-caps">♦Ian<span style="background:#99c">Ma<span style="background:#aad">c</span></span>M♦</span> (talk to me) 07:04, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

:: In 2019, The Walt Disney Company hosted 12.444 million guests at Epcot, ranking it as the fourth-most-visited theme park in North America and the seventh-most-visited theme park in the world.

: because Epcot is a business of sufficient complexity to be the subject of an article in its own right, and not just as a venture of the Walt Disney Company. you can observe similar wording in other systems of products, like iPhone. does this make sense?

Blind Barbie

[edit]

There's now a Blind Barbie, created with support from the American Foundation of the Blind. I think this is worth mentioning.

I'm happy to put something together but of course anyone else can jump in if they like. KaraLG84 (talk) 00:02, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Added a couple of sentences about the blind Barbie as well as the black Barbie with Down Syndrome. I wasn't sure how to expand the little I wrote without sounding like I was paraphrasing the article in my citation. KaraLG84 (talk) 15:00, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
