K. Arun Prakash, born in 1968 in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India, is the son of music composer Kalai Mamani L. Krishnan and Vasantha Krishnan. He began studying the mridangam at the age of nine under the guidance of Kalai mamani Ramanathapuram M.N. Kandaswamy, a disciple of the legendary mridangam maestro Palani M. Subramania Pillai.[1]

Arun Prakash developed a strong interest in the mridangam and began performing in concerts at the age of 11 after two years of training[citation needed]. He has since performed internationally and received various awards for his contributions to music.[citation needed]
