==National team== |
Appeared in two friendlies for Portugal against Scotland and Italy in 2002/03 but otherwise has been unable to force his way into the reckoning. He is a heavy contender for the Defender Positon for back up of Paulo Ferreira for back-upin the world cup Germany 2006 and Luiz Felipe Scolari sees' a lot of potentail since he did good marking Ronaldinho in the Quater-finals of the Champion's League. |

==Club career== |
Rocha was born in Recife. During his career he represented Manchete Futebol Clube do Recife (then known as Associação Atlética Santo Amaro), Santa Cruz Futebol Clube, Guarani Futebol Clube, Sporting Clube de Portugal (having a brief spell with the Primeira Liga giants), São Paulo FC, Real Madrid – where he helped to the 1993 conquest of the Copa del Rey – Santos FC, CR Vasco da Gama, Olaria Atlético Clube, Fluminense FC, Newell's Old Boys and Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, retiring at nearly 37. |
Ricardo Rocha started his career with FC Famalicão in 1998/99 before making the switch to SC Braga. A season with the B side followed before he made his debut in September 2000, going on to make 19 appearances in his first season. He started 25 matches the following campaign and his performances were coveted by SL benfica who signed him in the summer of 2002. |
Rocha was coach of Santa Cruz in 2001 and 2007, without, however, the same success as a player. |
2002: He quickly settled in Lisbon, playing 52 league games in his first two seasons and helping the side to Portuguese Cup triumph in 2004. |
==International career== |
2004/05: Formed a resolute centre-back partnership Luisão, recovering well from a spell on the sidelines to make 25 starts as Benfica claimed the SuperLiga title. He was also a regular in the UEFA Cup, helping the Lisbon side to the Round of 32 before elimination by eventual champions PFC CSKA Moscow. |
Rocha played 38 matches with the Brazil national team in eight years, his debut coming on 19 May 1987 in an exhibition game with England (1–1). He went on to take part in two FIFA World Cups: 1990 and 1994. |
In the latter edition Rocha was the starting center back. However, he could only appear 69 minutes for the eventual champions, a 2–0 group stage win against Russia, remaining injured for the remainder of the tournament. His last international match was also a friendly, a 5–0 win over Slovakia on 22 February 1995. |
Not a natural goalscorer, Ricardo Rocha scored just two goals in his first five seasons of top-flight football - both for Braga in 2001/02. |
