Dujail is well known for being the place where an unsuccessful assasination attempt was staged against then Iraqi president, [[Saddam Hussein]], in [[1982]]. Saddam Hussein's forces carried out a reprisal attack against the town. Up to 160 of the town's inhabitants were killed in the attack or executed later. 1,500 people were also incarcerated and tortured.

Dujail (Arabic: الدجيل; alternate spelling: Ad Dujayl) is a town in Saladin Governorate, Iraq. It is about 65 kilometers (40 mi) north of Baghdad. It was the site of the 1982 Dujail Massacre, in which between 142 and 148 people, including children, died.[1] The 2008 Dujail bombing also took place there.
