John was the third son of [[John Henry, Margrave of Moravia]] and [[Margaret of Austria, Margravine of Moravia|Margaret of Austria]]. In 1368 he was appointed as [[provost (religion)|provost]] of [[Vysehrad]], and was late canon in the same see. Once in Friuli, he had to face a critical situation in which most of the feudal families of the patriarchate had seized local power for themselves. The events precipitated when the patriarch's marshal murdered the noble Federico Savorgnan at [[Udine]], causing a popular rebellion which was supported by the [[History of the Republic of Venice|Republic of Venice]]. John Sobieslaw of Moravia (1352 – c. 30 October 1380) was a feudal lord in Bohemia. He was a junior margrave of Moravia. John was the second son of John Henry, Margrave of Moravia and Margaret of Opava. In historiography, he was mistaken for his illegitimate half-brother patriarch of Aquileia John of Moravia , for a long time.[1]
