Lakshman Singh Bisht, also known as Lucky Bisht,[7] is an Indian Spy, Sniper and National Security Guard Commando.[8][9] He served as a personal bodyguard to politicians such as Tarun Gogoi, L. K. Advani, Chandrababu Naidu, Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.[9][10] In 2009, Bisht earned the title of India's Best National Security Guard Commando.[11][12][13] In 2011, he faced allegations in connection with the twin murders of Raju Pargai and Amit Arya and was subsequently jailed. He was acquitted of all charges in 2018 due to insufficient evidence.[10] Following this, he left the special forces to pursue a career in the Hindi film industry.[10][9]
Early life and military career
Bisht was born in Gangolihat, Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand. His grandfather died in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.[14][15] He completed his early education at Kendriya Vidhyalaya No. 5, Mansarovar, Jaipur,[16] and joined the special forces at the age of 16 in 2003.[17] He underwent two and a half years of training in espionage and commando tactics in Israel.[18]
Bisht served as the security officer for Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief minister of Gujarat.[19] In 2022, he was interviewed by Hussain Zaidi about his life,[20] career and experiences as an intelligence operative for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).[21][22] Bisht was part of the security detail for US President Barack Obama[23] during his visit to India on 8 November[24] 2010. He has worked with various government security agencies, including the National Security Guard, Indian Army, Research and Analysis Wing, Special Forces and Assam Rifles, leading missions across multiple countries.[25][26][27][28]
Indian Film Industry
Bisht made his entry into the Indian film industry as a writer in 2019.[29][30][31] A book on his life, titled R.A.W. Hitman: The Real Story of Agent Lima,[32][33] was published by Simon & Schuster on 4 July 2023 in the United States[34] and on 6 July 2023 in India.[35][36] Authored by Hussain Zaidi,[37][38][39] the book became a bestseller within three weeks.[40][41][42] Its foreword was penned by Neeraj Kumar, former Delhi Police Chief.[43][11][44][45][46] This publication is the second book by Simon & Schuster on an Indian individual,[47][48] following Sachin Tendulkar.[49]
Bigg Boss 18
In November 2024, as per an article published by Network18 Group, [50] Lucky Bisht declined an invitation to appear on Bigg Boss 18. [51] [52] He cited his ongoing responsibilities with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) [53] [54] as the reason for turning down the offer, following discussions with both the show’s official team and his own advisors.[55][56] [57] [58]
Controversy
Bisht faced accusations for the assassination of Raju Pargai and Amit Arya.[59][60] On 5 September 2011, the Uttarakhand Police charged him with a double murder charge.[61][62] He spent over three years in jail, being transferred to 11 different facilities during this period.[2] He was released on 11 March 2015.[63][64] Ultimately, the Nainital district court acquitted him on 6 March 2018 due to a lack of evidence.[65][66] Bisht rejoined the Special Forces in 2018 and retired in 2019 before venturing into Bollywood later that year.[67][68]
Lucky Bisht is a strong and influential individual[69] whose single statement compelled Prime Minister of Nepal K. P. Sharma Oli to call a 16 December 2024 emergency cabinet meeting to save his government.[70][71] [72]
