He taught at the [[University of Turin]] from 1936 and became the leading [[existentialist]], critisizing [[France|French]] and [[Germany|German]] [[existentialism]]. He set out his [[philosophy]] in ''La struttura dell'esistenza'' (1939) and called for a change in philosophy's outlook in his 3-volume ''Storia della filosofia'' (2d ed. 1963). Some of his writings were translated into English in ''Critical Existentialism'' (ed. by Nino Langiulli, 1969).
