An Indophile is a non-Indian person who loves India: this could have an interest in Indian culture, cuisine, religions, history or the people of India. The term is generally applied to non-Indians. Many Indians (especially of the intellectual variety) consider Indophiles to be an extension of colonialism. There is a great deal of controversy associated with the term; it can be viewed as condescending or exoticizing the ancient and beautiful Indian culture.
