Garfield catches Nermal opening the refrigerator in the middle of the night, but Nermal explains that he’s looking for food for his pet guppy, not him. Garfield warns him not to do so, and then he tells Nermal a legend about giant, radioactive, mutant guppies that live in the sewer.

According to the legend, people take guppies that they don’t want as pets and dump them down the sewer. The guppies then absorb the chemicals that people also pour down the sewer, and they eventually turn into mutant guppies. After the legend concludes, Nermal tries to go to sleep, but he is unable to because he is afraid the guppies will get him. He wakes Garfield up and tells him this, to which Garfield states that he made the legend up. Nermal then wants Garfield to take him outside and prove that there really aren’t mutant guppies, but Garfield instead tries to go back to sleep until Nermal threatens to play Binky the Clown records.

Garfield and Nermal go down into the sewer system, and they soon come across a gang of mutant guppies. They quickly run back up to the street and Garfield stands on the sewer lid to seal the guppies in, but they pop out anyway. Garfield then runs off and comes back with a barrel of tartar sauce, which he uses to threaten the guppies. The guppies in turn jump back into the sewer and swim away toward the river. |

*The mutant guppies make a cameo appearance in the U.S. Acres Quickie following this episode (which is not shown in syndication). This is also a rare occurrence where a U.S. Acres Quickie is at the end of the show. |
==Trivia== |
*The security camera next to Garfield’s bed disappears after Garfield and Nermal come from the kitchen. |
