The release of the song was spoken about by Ryan Seacrest when Rihanna sang it on April 7, 2010 on American Idol. It will officially impact both Mainstream and Rhythmic radio on June 1, 2010. Rockstar 101 is going to be Rihanna's 3rd only released in North America single after Break It Off and Hard . |
==Live Performances== |
The song was performed for the first time on American Idol. Rihanna wore a black leather outfit and also played an electric guitar. The song is also featured on her Last Girl on Earth Tour as number 8 on her Normal Setlist and so it was performed live at Sportpaleis Antwerp in Belgium in the month of April as a part of the tour. |
==Music Video== |
The Music Video premiered on VEVO on May 25, 2010. The director is Melina Matsoukas who also did Rihanna’s Hard and Rude Boy videos. The music video for 'Rockstar 101' is her second black-and-white video after her Wait Your Turn video and it features scenes when Rihanna is with horns and has a blackface look, also scenes where she is in a snowy wilderness surrounded by dead tree's and clips of her as a lead singer of a rock band. Travis Barker is featured in the video as the drummer of the band which Rihanna sings in. Though Slash does not appear in the video, towards the end of it, Rihanna wears a hat, sun glasses and a wig of long curly hair as those of Slash. |
