Runa Laila (رونا ليلى) is a popular Sindhi singer from Bangladesh. Runa Laila became famous after the launching of first Sindhi TV Channel KTN. Runa Laila's concerts take place Bangladesh and around the world.

A popular singer of Bangladeshi origin, known for her pop songs in her home country, Runa Laila is a very well-known Ghazal singer in the rest of South Asia. Having received classical training she has dabbed in various genres of music and sings ghazals, mostly composed by others, rather well.

This apart she is also known to have done playback singing for many movies in Bangladesh and India and, before the independence of Bangladesh, in Pakistan. Mehdi Hassan has had a great influence on her ghazal singing. She kept recording ghazals and geets, and thus produced her first ghazal-geet album in 1988.

She sang playback for many movies in Bangladesh and India and, before the independence of Bangladesh, in Pakistan. She is known for her songs 'Dama Dam Mast Qalandar' and 'Mera Babu Chhail Chhabeela Main to Nachoongigi', which have been sung by other artists.

She made a sensational entry into the Hindi filmdom with Ek Se Badkar Ek in 1974. Music lovers all over India were swinging to the rhythmic beat of 'Dama Dam Mast Qalander'.

Her songs in Gharonda, which was released later, also went down very well with the audience. After that she withdrew from Mumbai but is still popular in India. Some of the music directors she has worked with are Jaidev, Kalyanji Anandji and Bappi Lahiri. At present she lives in Bangaldesh where she is a prominent playback singer.

Trivia
Runa's career as a singer came about by accident. It was her elder sister Dina who first got the break, but on the day of her performance, she developed a sore throat and Runa was asked to stand in. She was so little that she could not hold the tanpura. She held it horizontally and sang a kheyal.

Government of India had organised Runa Laila’s first programs in India in 1974. The ghazals, geets and folk songs that she sang were well received.

She is equally popular in the Bengali pop music space with songs like 'Sadher Lau Banailo Morey', 'Shilpi ami', 'tomaderi gan shonabo' and 'Bondhu Tin Din Tor Barite Gelam'.

Runa Laila is married twice, most recently in 2006 to the Bangladeshi film actor, Alamgir.
