=== Article poor === |
|||
⚫ | |||
I think this article is very weak, not at all informative or authoritative, and detracts from the little recognition Wiki has managed to garner for itself so far. I suggest it be corrected (or otherwise "made better"), or removed. |

It seems jaundiced and very POV. Other than the POV this article lacks merit and meaning. Any dissent on this? 76.27.229.48 (talk) 04:23, 20 October 2008 (UTC) |

I think there is merit in having a page on the topic of blue comedy. I can see that the list should be separate. OddThinking (talk) 07:32, 15 January 2011 (UTC) |

In agreement with above entry, the etymology of the term is definitely wrong (not surprising, the reference comes from...television?). A simple perusal of this page (http://www etymonline com/index.php?search=blue+humor&searchmode=nl [search "blue (2)"]) shows that this use of "blue" has been around since 1840 and could be freely applied in this respect to humor, books, songs etc. quite freely. |

Article Shouldn't Exist

Does this article need to exist?
[edit]It seems jaundiced and very POV. Other than the POV this article lacks merit and meaning. Any dissent on this? 76.27.229.48 (talk) 04:23, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Sex and the city
[edit]I found this through Sex_and_the_City_(film), I've never heard the term, and don't think it's a real one. If it is, how does it apply to Sex and the city? 60.242.247.168 (talk) 09:25, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Sec and the City is (no longer?) listed, and this page is (no longer?) referenced from the Sex and the City page. OddThinking (talk) 07:32, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Bob Saget example
[edit]Just noticed this quote in the article:
"Many comedians who are normally family-friendly might choose to work blue when off-camera or in an adult-oriented environment; Bob Saget exemplifies this dichotomy."
In Bob's case, his is an example in reverse (started out {and has re-asserted himself} as a blue comic who is usually remembered as clean-cut due to playing Danny Tanner on Full House and his role as America's Funniest Home Videos original host). WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 15:18, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Etymology wrong.
[edit]A
[edit]The given etymology doesn't seem right to me. See GCIDE based on Webster's 1913.
2. Pale, without redness or glare, -- said of a flame; hence, of the colour of burning brimstone, betokening the presence of ghosts or devils; as, the candle burns blue; the air was blue with oaths.
Assuming that 'oath' in this case is the archaic term for profanity (which seems likely, given the reference to devils) we'd have a previous example of 'blue' referring to foul language; extension to risque or sexual content would be natural. -Unsigned
Agreed. I have removed the etymology. OddThinking (talk) 07:32, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
