Types of Pokémon in EX Crystal Guardians
R to section
Pokémon-ex
Pokémon-ex are incredibly powerful. Their HP are usually far above that of their regular form, and they are much stronger. On occasions, some Pokémon-ex, such as Steelix ex, have two Resistances, and some, such as Jirachi ex, have no Weakness. Some, however, such as Aggron ex, have two Weaknesses, putting them at a disadvantage. Another disadvantage of Pokémon-ex is that when Knocked Out, the opponent takes two Prize cards instead of the usual one.

Pokémon-*
Similar to Pokémon-ex, Pokémon-* are stronger versions of their regular counterparts. All Pokémon-* are Basic Pokémon, even if the regular version is an Evolved Pokémon (such as Metagross). Pokémon-* have higher HP than regular non-ex Basic Pokémon. Their attacks are also somewhat stronger, but not necessarily more useful (such as Regice). Pokémon-* often have attacks whose damage and/or effect depend on the number of Prize cards each player has taken (such as Entei). Only one Pokémon-* may be put in a deck, regardless of whether it is a 30-card deck or a 60-card deck. Because of these impracticalities, Pokémon-* are usually considered collectors' items whereas Pokémon-ex are more used in decks. Pokémon-* usually appear in sets in groups of three; for example, Mudkip, Treecko, and Torchic; and Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

Delta Species Pokémon
Delta Species Pokémon are Pokémon that have had their genes modified, causing a disturbance in their natural pattern - in other words, their type. However, their weaknesses and resistances remain the same. For example, Sceptile ex, which is normally a Grass-type, becomes a Psychic-type Pokémon, but still retains its weakness to Fire-type. Another example is Ludicolo - normally a Water-type or Grass-type, in Crystal Guardians it becomes a Fire-type Pokémon, while retaining its weakness to Lightning-type.
