==Education==
Nelke was born in the [[Bronx, New York]] and grew up in Wappingers Falls where she attended [[Roy C. Ketcham High School]]. After college, Nelke was a member of the Folger Theatre Group, now the [[Shakespeare Theatre Company]], in [[Washington, D.C.]]. In 1985, Nelke was commissioned by the Philadelphia Drama Guild to adapt [[Theodore Dreiser]] novel, ''[[Sister Carrie]]'' for the stage.
