I am currently an LL.M. student at the University of Chicago and graduate in June, 2016. I'm helping contribute to Wikipedia as part of my course on Feminist Economics and Public Policy. I have listed below a topic I am currently working on:

Gender Pay Gap in India

[edit]

There exists a parent article on “Gender Pay Gap”, which includes a section wise list presenting this issue in multiple countries. However, there is no specific information on this issue in India. While some basic information and statistics regarding this topic have been presented under the sub-topic Labour participation and wages in the Wikipage on Gender Inequality in India, I intend to include more detailed information (including possible explanations offered by experts in the field as to why this problem arose and continues to exist) from potential sources listed below from an India specific context:

  • Understanding gender inequalities in wages and incomes in India, Preet Rustagi, The Indian Journal of Labour Economics, Vol. 48, No. 2, 2005.
  • Women and Wage Discrimination in India: A Critical Analysis, Shayan Javeed and Anupam Manuhaar, International Journal of Humanities and Social Science Invention, Volume 2 Issue 4, April. 2013.
  • Accounting for Wage Inequality in India, Puja Vasudeva Dutta, The Indian Journal of Labour Economics, Vol. 48, No. 2, 2005
  • Gender Wage Discrimination in India: Glass Ceiling or Sticky Floor?, Shantanu Khanna, (Working Paper No. 214) Centre for Development Economics, Delhi School of Economics, July, 2012.
  • An Assessment of the Labour Statistics System in India, T.S. Papola, International Labour Organization Country Office for India, New Delhi, 2014.
  • Gender Pay Gap in the Formal Sector, (Preliminary Evidence from Paycheck India Data), WageIndicator Data Report, September, 2012.

  • Poverty and Inequality in India: A Re-Examination, Angus Deaton and Jean Dreze, Economic and Political Weekly, Vol. 37, No. 36, pp. 3729-3748, September, 2002.
