==Plot== |
Two brothers named Harry and Alex Altman are sent to a summer camp by their parents, a place called Camp Spirit Moon. Throughout the story, they suspect other children at the camp, the counselors, and the camp director are unlike ordinary people; their eyes glow in the dark, the campers' cabins have blue puddles of goo next to the beds (which is revealed later to be protoplasm that the campers must step in daily to appear human), and everyone is obsessed with the campfire stories told on the first day. What's more, everyone at Camp Spirit Moon injure themselves in many grotesque ways (i.e., a camper puts her hand into a fire, a counselor has a tentpole go through his bare foot, a boy sticks a fork in his neck and doesn't bleed or feel any pain, a girl gets her head kicked off during a soccer game, a boy floating in midair above his bunk, another boy's eyes glow in the dark, and Alex rescues a girl who immediately comes to life after staying underwater for ten minutes) for laughs. One night, another camper named Lucy tells Harry the truth of Camp Spirit Moon: everyone at Camp Spirit Moon died on the first day from a mysterious fog that wafted through the woods. Since Harry and Alex are the only living humans at the camp, the campers' only way to escape is to possess them. Lucy tries to get inside Harry's body, but Harry fights her off. Harry tells Alex about the camp and they escape through the woods, but they almost get eaten by a monster hiding in the forest floor and defeat it by chanting that the monster isn't real. Harry and Alex are soon confronted and captured by everyone in Camp Spirit Moon so they can be possessed by the ghosts of the summer camp. All of the campers fight each other for the chance to possess Harry and Alex and end up vanishing. Harry and Alex finally escape the camp and head to a highway to get home. Harry notices that Alex (who has been established as a very good singer in the beginning of the story) is humming off-key. From inside Alex's body, Elvis begs Harry not to tell anyone that he possessed Alex. |

The Joke's On Them! |
Harry and his brother, Alex, are dying to fit in at Camp Spirit Moon. But the camp has so many weird traditions. Like the goody camp salute. The odd camp greeting. And the way the old campers love to play jokes on the new campers. |
Then the jokes start to get really serious. Really creepy. Really scary. |
First a girl sticks her arm in the campfire. Then a boy jams a pole through his foot. |
Still, they're just jokes...right? |
