Westmar High School is a public 9-12 school in Lonaconing, MD that houses students from the George's Creek area and from the US 220 region in southern Allegany County (the following towns are included in this district: Lonaconing, Westernport, Barton, Midland, McCoole, and Danville/Dawson). The school was established in the fall of 1989 as a result of the consolidation of Valley High School and Bruce High School. Westmar is located in the old Valley High building. In 2007, Westmar High School will consolidate with Beall High School to form Mountain Ridge High School which is currently under construction on the former Mountaineer Stadium at Beall in Frostburg. Westmar was a result of the consolidation of Valley High School (of George's Creek) and Bruce High School (of the Westernport vicinity). Although Bruce High School was the first High School of its community, Valley High School can trace its roots back to Central High School (of Upper George's Creek) and Barton High School. Before Barton, Central, and Bruce came into being the area was filled with small school houses for each and every neighborhood. |

In the Fall of the year of 2007, Westmar High School will be nothing but a memory and a part of the history of Mountain Ridge High School. Mountain Ridge is the school that is being built as a result of the consolidation of Beall and Westmar High Schools. It is located in the city of Frostburg on the former Mountaineer Stadium at Beall. Sadly, for the first time ever, Lonaconing will not have a high school to call its own. However, the Westmar High building will be lived on by Westmar Middle and the high school curriculum will broaden with several classes being added. |

"The Pride" is Westmar's yearbook. The yearbook staff are the members of Mr. Chesky's Journalism class. The price of a yearbook ranges between 60 and 90 dollars depending on the extent of your customization. |

"Pawprints" is Westmar High School's newspaper which comes out once every marking period. The newspaper staff are the members of Mrs. Kalbaugh's Journalism class. Each newspaper costs one dollar and a year-long subscription costs four dollars. |
