The school was established in the fall of [[1989]] as a result of the [[school consolidation|consolidation]] of [[Valley High School]] and [[Bruce High School]]. Westmar is located in the old Valley High building. |

Although Bruce High School was the first High School of its community, Valley High School can trace its roots back to Central High School (of Upper George's Creek) and Barton High School. Before Barton, Central, and Bruce came into being the area was filled with small school houses for each and every neighborhood. |
