After performances there would be a short clip of a mysterious man (not able to see face) and a voice commentary that would lead to the next song. This mysterious man also shows up again in a small documentary where he interviews hookers and prostitutes (aka Modern Geishas) about how they got into this business. This DVD was also another step back for Trần Thăng causing him and the entire company to shut down in 2004. |

History
[edit]Hollywood Night was born and brought a different light to the Vietnamese music industry, a variety of performances and various stage settings for every song. The first three shows were filmed at an auditorium in Berkeley, California with a small audience and two MCs Nam Lộc and Nguyễn Cao Kỳ Duyên. Later the productions began to film many shows from #5 through # 8 in studios from different locations in California. Finally in 1993, Hollywood Night went Live on its ninth show at Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. The productions has gone live eversince the 9th filming. By 1996 the production was going through budget problems and was only able to do one filming that year. The turning point of the production was in 1998, the hosts were unable to hold the attention of the audience and the performances of new singers were lacking in so much. The next year was not even best, the company struggled to come up with better ideas and trying to encourage viewers to buy real products instead of buying pirated copies and renting them. After the last Hollywood Night video was released, May Productions tried to gain their audience back with Raise The Red Lantern. The Play was translated into Vietnamese and adapted by the Chinese drama with the same name. Desperate for viewers to buy tickets to the show producer of the play invited many well known Vietnamese actors and actress to play in the roles, including for the first time in any play singer Khánh Hà (known as a Diva in the music biz) with her husband Tô Chấn Phong and child Ian To. Even with all of these big names were in the show the video was not a big seller for its brilliance in acting. The audience did not take the play seriously there was laughter during the most dramatic scenes. The audio was not well adjusted stage hands can be heard reading the lines to the actors. After the release of this play the company disappeared for one year and came back in 2001 to release a video (3 parts) with its purpose is to pay tribute to May Productions’ beloved singer Ngọc Lan. Like A Memory was the last video ever to be produced by Mây Productions.
Return
[edit]An attempt to return to the music industry, Trần Thăng (former producer of Mây Productions) was now producing for Dạ Lan Productions in 2003. The first DVD entitled “Millions of Flowers for Vietnamese Women” filmed at the La Mirada Theater in La Mirada, California. This DVD was not a big seller with it’s surprise come back not many were amused by the performances and set design. The year after Dạ Lan released another DVD entitled “Les Miserables of Vietnam.” There was an audience there but no one to host the show.
Rebranding
[edit]Until the 2010s aka “The Roaring Twenty First Century,” after 6 years of hiatus, Mây Productions returned to their music industry with its new name, “MayQ Productions.” Besides, it also has many new singers in Vietnam and the United States. At that time, the level of MayQ Productions was raised even more higher like 100% and it is definitely a miracle for the audience and beloved fans of MayQ Productions. And from that time on, MayQ Productions produced even more shows in Atlantic City such as Melodies of the Stars, The Miss Globe Vietnam-US International Pageant etc. The first show of Melodies of The Stars was held at Bally’s Atlantic City on May 25th, 2013. And with its purpose is to celebrate the revival of Hollywood Night, it decided to produce its 21st show “Peter Pan Jr.” on March 6th, 2016. The musical was adapted by the Disney movie with the same name, “Peter Pan”. After the success of the new show of Hollywood Night, MayQ Productions returned to Atlantic City and it produced even more shows of Hollywood Night with appearances of even more singers in Vietnam and during that time, it became even more stronger than the time of producing shows of Hollywood Night in the 1990s and 2000s until this time.
