The Eleanor Gerson School is a coeducational alternative day school for students in grades 6 through 12. The Gerson High School, with a history dating back to 1970, offers an alternative educational experience for adolescents in grades 9 - 12 who, for various personal, behavioral and/or relationship reasons, have not been successful in standard school settings. Most students have average to above-average abilities, but exhibit characteristics such as:

* Depression
* Being bullied
* Intense anxiety
* History of school absences
* Suicidal ideation
* Tendency to internalize

The Gerson High School, fully accredited by the state of Ohio, emphasizes education within a personal and therapeutic environment to affect positive growth in each student. An individual course of study is developed, and each student is assigned a faculty advisor who provides monitoring, evaluation and support. Faculty is certified in special education and come from the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County, Applewood Centers and Cleveland Metropolitan Schools.

It is located in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Gerson school offers smaller classes, usually having no more than ten students per class. This helps maintain a personal connection between student and teacher. Having more one on one time helps the students learn not only more efficiently, but they gain more knowledge. The teachers there are more than just teachers, teachers go by their first name at Gerson. This adds to the personal connection of student to teacher, the students don't feel in-superior to the teachers, yet maintain respect for them non the less.

There is a better chance graduating from Gerson, because unlike mainstream schools, they do not give up on their students and continue to help them, even after graduation.

The curriculum at The Gerson School closely mirrors that of most home districts. Classrooms typically have six to ten students, and are organized based on how students are most likely to focus and learn. All major academic subjects are offered in addition to many electives, including sociology, Spanish, speech communication, government, history, Caribbean culture, service-learning, art, and computer applications.
