In 2014, the city council created the Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage at a cost of $196 million, covering 500,000 square feet of space and accommodating 300 buses and 700 drivers. Kathleen Andrews was born May 17, 1940 and moved to Edmonton, Alberta Canada from Rochdale, Lancashire England in 1954. Kathleen began working for the City of Edmonton in 1974. Kathleen applied for a job as an Edmonton Transit Operator in 1975 and became Edmonton's First Female City Bus Driver in May 1975! This was history in the making as, currently,there were no females doing any male orientated jobs. After 3 years of driving, Kathleen then became ETS's first female Dispatcher and then moved on to becoming ETS's first female in Management with the City of Edmonton and Edmonton Transit System.
