== Need help == |

I just found this page after I requested a permission, and found a (new to me) link there, to what I am guessing is a MediaWiki project that I have no idea about. Apparently, 2 years ago someone was able to edit under my name at that page. It may be because I don't have a registered account at that project, but I am unsettled by finding it there. Here is the link https://meta.wikimedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Grants:IdeaLab/Arbitration_Tribunal&action=edit Thanks, in advance. * 1) the complainant removed a user comment to a proposal in their name, that was reverted. Subsequently it would appear that the complainant had issues in a comment in their original submission. How they put it their during their submission I can only reflect is the complainant's issue. :::I apologize for removing the comment by another editor. I inadvertently removed that comment when I found what I thought was a vexatious comment left by a red-link "Hamster Sandwich" at the foot of an infobox of some kind. I thank billingshurst for fixing all of that up, at any rate. I can't explain the addition of material to MadiaWiki in 2016 in my "red-link" name, other to state I myself did not make it/ them. ::::Maybe a weird glitch in the software? It is plausible that someone else registered that name (who knows how long ago) and made one edit in 2016, and somehow the system didn't realize that you had already registered it in 2005. By all means change your password, in case he somehow has the same one. |
|||
::::In 2005 all Wikimedia sites had separate user accounts and passwords, but starting in February 2013 (completed in April 2015) the WMF forcibly renamed all clashing user accounts so that every user now had a single unified login across all Wikimedia sites. Maybe they missed one? |

Password has been changed to an newer strengthened one. It seems to be one specific case of a rather nonsense edit made in a (apparently random) infobox that was ignored for two years till I found it. WELL DONE ME, eh?. I only found it when I saw a new search parameter for my past edits at a request for permissions page. *Addendum: I think it might be meaningful that when I made what I thought was the removal of the footer of the info box (inadvertantly, and I have no idea how) reverting a comment on the talk page. My mistake there. The meaningful part is, that after I made that edit, I got a message welcoming me for my first edit over there. Where I had never been. Wikidata, yes, I removed some trash over there last week; but MetaWhatever, no. 05:47, 15 December 2018 (UTC) |

Possible solution- After racking my brain, in 2016 I had (as much as it pains me to describe someone) a skeevy hacker kid living two doors down from me. At the time we were both on the same WiFi network (coffee shop downstairs, unlimited internet $2.25 a day and a free coffee!) For what it's worth, he was just that kind of smartass. Not obnoxious, just smartass. Whatever, it was nothing that wasn't easily fixed and I have new security protocol. I am at the same risk as any other wikipedia editor in that respect. ===Compromised account?=== |
|||
A glitch in the WMF software? Maybe. But, considering the fact that a number of accounts have been compromised recently, some of them admin accounts, and considering the manner in which Hamster Sandwich returned to editing (i.e. casually asking for "The Hammer" back at WP:BN), and their very odd response to being turned down (Abrupt messages concludng with "End communication"), has anyone actually looked into the possibility that this is a compromised account? Thank you, Sith. New users like me appreciate the message. I would have pinged you properly, but your username is very long and takes up too many electrons. I am trying to be frugal... Electrons are a finite resource, which is why (I have surmised) is the actual reason the article you claim is not noteworthy is included in other wiki's. wiki.en should set a good example in saving these precious electrons. Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants. |
|||
We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too. |
|||
We thank you in advance for your participation and your help. |

I read your message in my talk page, that if i need help from you. That's nice good faith community approaches. My everyday task is editing uncorrected, ambiguous year and grammatic errors. Creating an article is rare to me, especially in video games and entertainment subjects. My always bothering articles are unnecessary and dull writting when I edits. Eg. In the biography article, there is no wriiten "citizenship" describe in the article line and misleading information, "vandalism" that expresses people's opinion, personal attacks such as "insults" and foreign words other than English language; to politicians and professional peoples; that must be prevented from editing. Can you share my help to these ideas please? Video game task (talk) 16:14, 11 December 2018 (UTC) |

Need help
[edit]I just found this page after I requested a permission, and found a (new to me) link there, to what I am guessing is a MediaWiki project that I have no idea about. Apparently, 2 years ago someone was able to edit under my name at that page. It may be because I don't have a registered account at that project, but I am unsettled by finding it there. Here is the link 2 Thanks, in advance. Hamster Sandwich (talk) 00:48, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- May I assume that the last two edits I see at
- are from you but the first one isn't?
- I see that a meta admin reverted you:
- I have alerted him to this thread:
- Let's see what he has to say. --Guy Macon (talk) 01:13, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- TY very much! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 01:20, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- Issue at metawiki, resolved there — billinghurst sDrewth 01:48, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- 1) the complainant removed a user comment to a proposal in their name, that was reverted. Subsequently it would appear that the complainant had issues in a comment in their original submission. How they put it their during their submission I can only reflect is the complainant's issue. What happened to the user's account in 2016 is beyond comment and investigation. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:29, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- (ec) Addendum. User has been advised to change their password. First step that anyone should do when they believe that there is a chance that your account has been compromised is to firstly check the email address for your account, then change your password. Use a unique, complex password, preferably of minimum of 10 characters. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:41, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- I apologize for removing the comment by another editor. Hamster Sandwich (talk) 01:38, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- Maybe a weird glitch in the software? It is plausible that someone else registered that name (who knows how long ago) and made one edit in 2016, and somehow the system didn't realize that you had already registered it in 2005. By all means change your password, in case he somehow has the same one.
- In 2005 all Wikimedia sites had separate user accounts and passwords, but starting in February 2013 (completed in April 2015) the WMF forcibly renamed all clashing user accounts so that every user now had a single unified login across all Wikimedia sites. Maybe they missed one?
- The fact that you could edit on meta tells me that you have unified login. Could you please check
- And look for anything else on another wiki that you didn't post?
- Finally, I don't see anything here that needs an English Wikipedia admin. Would you be so kind as to cut and paste this to your talk page and we can continue this discussion there? Just replace this entire thread with a link to where it was moved to. Or ask me and I can move it for you. --Guy Macon (talk) 03:05, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Regards, Hamster Sandwich (talk) 05:35, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- Addendum: I think it might be meaningful that when I made what I thought was the removal of the footer of the info box (inadvertantly, and I have no idea how) reverting a comment on the talk page. My mistake there. The meaningful part is, that after I made that edit, I got a message welcoming me for my first edit over there. Where I had never been. Wikidata, yes, I removed some trash over there last week; but MetaWhatever, no. 05:47, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Hamster Sandwich (talk) 06:49, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Compromised account?
[edit]A glitch in the WMF software? Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:20, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- (Scatches head) He seems to have the same sense of humor he had with this post[3] from 2012, so if he is a new Hamster Sandwich (New Hamster Sandwich would be a great name for a punk band, BTW) he is doing a fine job of imitating the old one. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:44, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- I honestly think they should change the name of Dolphin to Ocean Pony. End Communication. Hamster Sandwich (talk) 06:56, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Per your request at WP:PERM, your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright. This allows you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. [edit]On 7 January 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hermes 3000, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that actor Tom Hanks has claimed that the Hermes 3000 is the one luxury item he would want to have on a desert island? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hermes 3000. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Hermes 3000), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Well Done! Regards, Hamster Sandwich (talk) 12:52, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- Addendum: It was because the citations weren't inline with the text. I understand now that the German WP is a bit different from here... Notability isn't the issue. It's the refs. My apologies, all 'round as necessary.
