Brain implant vs BCI
Hank Asher
Hi,
Hey. BCI and brain implants are separate things. BCI is a form of a brain implant but a brain implant does not imply that it is about a computer connection. A brain implant could be a simple brain pacemaker or it could even involve the insertion of foreign biological material such as stem cells for the treatment degenerative diseases. That said, improve them as much as you want, just remember that they are not necessarily the same thing. Best. --Ben Houston 22:04, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I noticed you've reviewed and edited Hank Asher's Biography before. I was wondering if you would mind reviewing the changes that were made yesterday. Most of the changes, while cited to a Vanity Fair article, are not actually in that article at all. The changes are accusatory and are not cited. Some of the text that was removed is actually in the Vanity Fair article.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I took a look at the article. The vandalism, as of now, seems like a one-off incident. Thats why I am not doing anything for now. Since the user is not active now, warning wont be of any effect. If he restarts, warn him with an immediate level 4 warning. If he still doesnt stop let me know (or if I am not online at that time, report to AIV). If multiple users/IPs start vandalizing, let me know and I will semi protect the page again. :Thanks for the tip. I allowed some leeway because of the delay since the last warning, but as you rightly pointed out, there is intent at malice. I have issued a final warning.

I actually am pleased to learn that making serious contributions to Wikipedia is not so simple as just posting an idea that seems to make sense, at least to me. I took your UNDO of my posts as indication I have work to do before my idea is ready for reference in Wikipedia. At first, I took offense, but then I realized that if my position were defensible, I could just work the wikipedia process and force my material into the encyclopedia. My material is not defensible at this point, so I got bounced. Seems fair enough to me.

Hi, I'm posting here per your request. I noticed that you removed a link I added to the wikipedia page on the Federal Bureau of Investigation a few days ago. This was a link to a web site called GetGrandpasFBIFile.Com that allows a person to generate letter required to request a deceased individual's FBI file. I think you removed it because it is a "private site", but I wanted to better understand your reasons. So you know, the web site is run by two individuals as a free service for the community, much like wikipedia. It exists only to help people file freedom of information act requests with the FBI. It doesn't charge money, there's no profit motive, it doesn't expound any particular philosophy or anything of the sort ... so, can you enlighten me a bit as to why you think the link shouldn't be there? Plapsley 04:59, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Heya!
::Hi Plapsley. I removed the site because it doesn't seem to comply with external links policy (WP:EL) which expressly warns against links to blogs and personal web pages. Wikipedia policy also recommends that you don't add links to sites which you control or otherwise are associated with, see: Wikipedia:External_links#Advertising and conflicts of interest. If you disagree with this, we can ask an admin to provide some more clarity. Cheers Saganaki- 06:49, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
::::Hi, Saganaki-. Thanks for your response. I don't think the site violates the external link policy; GetGrandpasFBIFile is neither a blog nor a personal web page (at least not in the sense of a "here's what I did last summer"-style personal web page). Yes, it's run by a couple of people (vs. a big corporation) but I don't think that makes it a "personal web page", nor is that a good reason not to link to it. The COI issue is closer to home, but I think also not directly relevant here; while I do know the people who run the site, it's not my site. I've filed a lot of Freedom of Information Act requests with the FBI for a book I'm working on, and I've come to believe that the GetGrandpasFBIFile.Com approach is the easiest and most effective way to file such requests, and I think it would be a useful link for readers of the FBI wikipedia page. Plapsley 17:06, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
:::::Hey Saganaki. As I told Plapsley off-site, I'm indifferent to whether or not the link is included in the article. However, there's nothing in WP:EL to forbid it. It's not a blog, commercial advertising, etc. As far as protocol goes, this is an issue for consensus, not the heavy-hand of an administrator. I'd suggest taking this over to the talk page and getting some other opinions, and perhaps posting a Wikipedia:Requests for comment if there's no agreement. cheers, bobanny 22:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
:: Hi Plapsley. I've suggested to Bobanny that we shift the discussion to the article talk page for better archiving. Want to summarise your suggestion there and I'll respond? Cheers Saganaki- 04:51, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Kutchannel
Hi there! You removed the link to the Kutchannel from Kutchan, Hokkaidō. I am unsure if the link isn't acutally legitimate. The website appears to be trying to be an independent media channel for the town, like a local newspaper. It could be considered notable since the Kutchannel was covered by the Hokkaido Shimbun, according to utchannel. I think you could argue either way. I just wanted to ask you to reconsider.

-Michael

:I second Michael's opinion. I am a registered user of The Kutchannel, so I may be biased, but it is the only non-commercial source of English information in the Kutchan / Niseko area. Honestly, for non-Japanese speaking newcomers to a rural area, The Kutchannel is a must-have resource for information. It doesn't seem right to withhold that valuable of a resource. ==Asian 10,000 Challenge invite==
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Yes, I am Dan Allen of Dan Allen Dot Com. The comedian Dan Allen is another guy. I guess I would have to agree that my website is not itself authoritative of anything. I was thinking my idea is so common sensical, it would provide its own authority upon simple inspection.

I've decided to find a professional journal where I think my idea could appear if it were developed and presented properly. If the process proves my idea is dumb, that's fine with me.

I appreciate your efforts to keep Wikipedia up to good standards.

Plapsley 04:59, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Plapsley. Cheers Saganaki- 06:49, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Saganaki-. Plapsley 17:06, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Saganaki. I'd suggest taking this over to the talk page and getting some other opinions, and perhaps posting a Wikipedia:Requests for comment if there's no agreement. cheers, bobanny 22:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Plapsley. I've suggested to Bobanny that we shift the discussion to the article talk page for better archiving. Want to summarise your suggestion there and I'll respond? Cheers Saganaki- 04:51, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hakodate Airport

[edit]

Airports on Wikipedia are often added to "Transportation" sections. Since Hakodate may have rail and/or bus services, all three kinds can be explained in the Transportation section. WhisperToMe 00:28, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added mentioning the train station in text. I also moved the pic of the train station and added a pic of the airport :) WhisperToMe 00:34, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Activity survey for members of WikiProject Companies

[edit]
placed on talk pages of all participants

I wanted to get a notion of the level of activity of people who are members of WikiProject Companies with respect to monitoring the WikiProject Talk page and participating in discussions of interest and/or responding to requests for input.

Could you please visit Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Companies/Member information#2008 Quarter 1 (Jan-Mar): Talk page monitoring survey and adding yourself to one or more of the several groupings listed?

Thanks for your assistance.

Kutchannel

[edit]

-Michael

I second Michael's opinion. Just my two cents. Love your work.

Orphaned non-free media (File:MouseBCI.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:MouseBCI.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. This image is amazing -- but what exactly is it we're looking at? I take it a side-by-side comparison with a photograph from the same perspective isn't available...but even a verbal description would be helpful. Betond that, I gather it's eight versions of the same scene, but what is the difference between them? Was it the same image captured from different sites? Or...?

Anyway, thanks. 67.180.84.49 (talk) 01:58, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]
