== Birth year discrepancy ==

After noticing a few edits to Lemmon's birth year within the article text in recent weeks, I decided to do a deeper dive into the matter. The vast majority of reliable sources that I consulted list her birth date as February 24, 1961. These sources include Contemporary Theatre, Film and Television; Almanac of Famous People; Encyclopedia.com; Contemporary Black Biography; World Biographical Information System; Contemporary Black Biography; Who's Who Among African Americans; and two books about Lemmons (''Kasi Lemmons: Interviews'' and ''Women Directors and Their Films''). Also, the Library of Congress authority file entry for Lemmons gives a birth year of 1961.

However, I found a few sources that state she was born in 1959. These include her appearance on the PBS show ''Finding Your Roots'' (season 7, episode 5, February 16, 2021 at 22:17) and the website The History Makers. I also found a birth announcement in the ''St. Louis Post-Dispatch'' dated March 6, 1959 (p. 4E) that did not include the child's name or exact date, but said that a girl had been born in the prior two weeks to "M. and D. Lemmons". A similar announcement from 1961 was not found.

Based on this information, I will add a note to the article stating that "some sources say 1959; see talk page discussion" and link here. [[User:NOLA1982|NOLA1982]] ([[User talk:NOLA1982|talk]]) 17:00, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Birth year discrepancy

[edit]

After noticing a few edits to Lemmon's birth year within the article text in recent weeks, I decided to do a deeper dive into the matter. The vast majority of reliable sources that I consulted list her birth date as February 24, 1961. These sources include Contemporary Theatre, Film and Television; Almanac of Famous People; Encyclopedia.com; Contemporary Black Biography; World Biographical Information System; Contemporary Black Biography; Who's Who Among African Americans; and two books about Lemmons (Kasi Lemmons: Interviews and Women Directors and Their Films). Also, the Library of Congress authority file entry for Lemmons gives a birth year of 1961.

However, I found a few sources that state she was born in 1959. These include her appearance on the PBS show Finding Your Roots (season 7, episode 5, February 16, 2021 at 22:17) and the website The History Makers. I also found a birth announcement in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch dated March 6, 1959 (p.

NOLA1982 (talk) 17:00, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
