== [[Global Entrepreneurship Monitor|GEM]] ==
Thank you for re-editing my contribution to the page. I understand that I might have used too much copyright content and honestly appreciated your inputs. That said, I do not fully capture why you restored the maintenance tags as I felt that my edits had taken care of those issues. More specifically:<br>
<b>1) A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject:</b> perhaps the original author did back in 2017, but I surely don't and apparently neither do you nor the other editors who contributed since that time.<br>
<b>2) This article may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject, potentially preventing the article from being verifiable and neutral:</b> the website of the consortium was removed and references listed included universities and a very top academic journal like 'Small Business Economics'. I am sure there the web has countless websites listing the use of GEM data, but it becomes a matter of using the references appropriately. Do you think there should be a section listing academic studies using GEM data?<br>
<b>3) The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies and organizations:</b> I think the numbers clearly show the ongoing relevance of this project on a global scale (25 years of history, 115 countries participating, use of data by the UN, the World Economic Forum, the World Bank and the OECD)<br>
Again, thank you [[User:Mobinow|Mobinow]] ([[User talk:Mobinow|talk]]) 23:16, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa-Thank you for flagging issues with the edits I made on the Iona College page. I am an employee of the College and have been asked to update the Wikipedia page. :Thank you for your interest in working on Wikipedia. There were a couple of problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see [[Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials]] which explains how it works. The problem involved prose copied from the school's website as well as the image.{{pb}}The second problem is [[WP:COI|conflict of interest]]. Writing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required [[WP:NPOV|neutral point of view]]. According to our [[foundation:Terms of Use|terms of use]], paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 19:03, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

==Some help==

Hi,
I'm new to Wiki so I was wondering if you could help me. I saw you reverted my edit on the England national page. I must agree, that I do feel my edit went over the top in the history sections. I was wondering, though, on how do you go around attribution? How do I copy content from other Wiki pages with attribution? If I go over the edits I made, such as trimming down my edit on the history section, and learning how to fully attribution, would you allow my edit to go through?
Appreciate it.
[[User:Woozworlduser|Woozworlduser]] ([[User talk:Woozworlduser|talk]]) 21:00, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

:No, I wouldn't favor adding all that content, as the main article [[England]] is supposed to be an overview of the topic. Details on different aspects belong in the sub-articles. That's why sub-articles were invented: to prevent the main article from becoming too large to read or edit comfortably. We start creating sub-articles when a page reaches about 10,000 words. [[England]] is currently 17301 words, even without your additions. You can see at the bottom of the article there's a set of templates that offer our readers links to our articles on various topics that they might like to read about further.{{pb}}Regarding attribution: While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, [[WP:Copyrights|Wikipedia's licensing]] does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an [[Help:Edit summary|edit summary]] at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and [[Help:Link#Wikilinks|linking]] to the copied page, e.g., <code>copied content from <nowiki>[[page name]]</nowiki>; see that page's history for attribution</code>. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{tl|copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 22:11, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

== Copyright problem on [[WIPO Lex]] ==

Content you added to the above article appears to have been copied from https://www.wipo.int/wipolex/en/info/faq.html, which is not released under a compatible license. That's because their terms of use states "The user must not distort, mutilate, modify or take other action in relation to the content published on the WIPO website and online services that would be prejudicial to the reputation of WIPO." Our license allows derivative works with no such restriction. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, some content had to be removed. Please let me know if you have any questions. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 17:06, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
:Hello [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]]. This is odd because all content produced by WIPO since 2017 is published under a CC BY 4.0 licence, as stated in the terms of use of their website [https://www.wipo.int/tools/en/disclaim.html]. I have discussed that with WIPO several times, and except for situations where a report include elements copyrighted by other parties, all their websites and all their content are CC BY. I have tried to find what piece of text was an issue and I have tried to find where you found that section in the FAQ. And could not find any of those.
:Can you please tell me in which section you found "The user must not distort, mutilate, modify or take other action in relation to the content published on the WIPO website and online services that would be prejudicial to the reputation of WIPO. » And please tell me as well as which part of the text was problematic and removed from my edits please ? I’ll revert back to WIPO Lex team to find out if that piece of legal text you mention might be a leftover from before 2017 ? And if a sentence is a copy of something you believe to be copyrighted, then I’ll get them to send a permission. Please revert to me. Thanks in advance. [[User:Anthere|Anthere]] ([[User talk:Anthere#top|talk]]) 02:49, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
:For the record, I am acting WIR at WIPO. [[User:Anthere|Anthere]] ([[User talk:Anthere|talk]]) 03:01, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
::[https://www.wipo.int/tools/en/disclaim.html The page you link to] says "This is in line with the Creative Commons – Attribution (BY) 4.0 – license" which is not the same thing as saying that the content is released under that license, because they very intentionally go on to make a restriction that's not part of the license: "The user must not distort, mutilate, modify or take other action in relation to the content published on the WIPO website and online services that would be prejudicial to the reputation of WIPO." [https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ The terms of the cc-by-4.0 license] states that "no additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits." So this is not actually released under license, because they've added extra conditions, which is not allowed under cc-by-4.0. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 11:49, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
::They also state that "From November 15, 2016, new WIPO publications as well as other selected content are available for use under Creative Commons licenses and clearly marked as such." The particular page that was copied has no such marks or notice. So, that particular page does not appear to be released under license. For comparison, [https://www.wipo.int/publications/en/details.jsp?id=4588&plang=EN here is an example] of the way they mark the specific pages/reports that are released under license. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 12:28, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
:::Hmmm, it makes sense. I’ll revert to them to ask them what they suggest. I suppose I can rephrase the sentences removed. Thanks. [[User:Anthere|Anthere]] ([[User talk:Anthere|talk]]) 01:42, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
::::Ok, we rephrased. Felt like the easiest option. But I now keep in mind that the website itself is restricted. [[User:Anthere|Anthere]] ([[User talk:Anthere|talk]]) 17:36, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

== Question ==

Hello, guru of all things copyright. Here are 2 links to the same article:[https://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/artists/does-world-want-harry-styles-gay/][https://www.proquest.com/docview/2325629548]. The first is to the paywalled paper itself, the second I got via the WP-library>Proquest. Unlike say JSTOR, that link doesn't seem to expire/demand login later. To your knowledge, is it problematic to add the proquest link to a cite? [[User:Gråbergs Gråa Sång|Gråbergs Gråa Sång]] ([[User talk:Gråbergs Gråa Sång|talk]]) 19:18, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
:I cannot view the ProQuest version in full, because I am not logged in. I don't know if ProQuest has the right to re-publish content from The Telegraph. Why not just link to the original article? Fun fact: Earwig's tool can view the whole article, even through the Telegraph's paywall. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 19:51, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
::The reason to add the ProQuest would have been because it would have been more helpful to the general reader, but if its not, that's moot (that ''is'' a fun fact). And now I see that ProQuest has kept me logged in, probably a cookie-thing, but if I log out I can't read it in full either. So not wrong in cite but also on the whole pointless. Oh well, thanks for talking. [[User:Gråbergs Gråa Sång|Gråbergs Gråa Sång]] ([[User talk:Gråbergs Gråa Sång|talk]]) 20:44, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

== Edits to [[Briarcrest Christian School]] ==

Hello, thank you for your message regarding the edits made to the Briarcrest Christian School page. I am new to editing on Wikipedia, so your guidance was very helpful and instructive. I am primarily trying to edit some of the objective information on the page (particularly in the school template - enrollment and principal sections are no longer accurate.) I would also like to add information related to recent academic offerings and athletics (again, objective information). It appears my submission was removed and the page reverted back to its previous content. What is the best way to ensure this objective information is added? I've already undone the edit per [[:WP:NOTCV]], but it also kind of looks like it could've been possibly copied directly from "MacMillan, Duncan; The Piano Music of Michael Hennagin: An Introductory Examination Dissertation, University of Oklahoma, 1987 (Appendix F)". At [[User talk:DanCherek#Copyright violation]], I am concerned by their statements and misunderstanding of copyright policy. Could you assess the recent edits and perform any removals / revision deletions as necessary? Thanks, [[User:DanCherek|DanCherek]] ([[User talk:DanCherek|talk]]) 21:32, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

I recently noticed a proliferation of long passages presented as quotes. While quotation and attribution is considered an acceptable way of presenting copyrighted material, the Wikipedia essay [[wp:quotations]] offers some guidance. That guidance has two defects — it's an essay so does not have the force of policy, and it is (understandably) short on specific guidance as to acceptable length.
== Turnitin down for scheduled maintenance ==

I've accepted a number of such situations some of which are quite short and therefore in my opinion quite appropriate. Others are longer than I would like but I've accepted them. However this one strikes me as a bit too long (392 words): [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?diff=1263535428 1963 Nobel Prize in Literature: Difference between revisions ]

What are your thoughts on how this should be handled?
==Etruscan==
Hi Diannaa. First, thanks for all the work you do here. Second, you noted that you took down some of the content on Etruscan and that I needed to pay more attention to copyright and plagiarism issues. I have tried to be fairly careful on the plagiarism front, but it would be great if you see somewhere when I fall down on that and let me know specifically, so I can learn. The issue of wikipedia and copyright is what I need to (and have started to) learn more about. It seems rather restrictive. I'll try to see if I can determine whether something is copyrighted or not in the future. Any hints on how to do that (besides the points made on the copyright page that you linked and that I have read now) would be helpful. In general, it would be great if you could indicate exactly what was wrong with particular deletions, again, so I can learn better, though I know this puts a burden on your already busy schedule. Thanks again, and keep up the good work! [[User:Johundhar|Johundhar]] ([[User talk:Johundhar|talk]]) 14:37, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

As an aside, while this one is not a specific example, I've seen in increased usage of long passages in the quote parameter within a reference. I'm a big fan of using exact passages to support a point made in my own words, but I generally try to excerpt a short a passage as possible. You have any thoughts on whether copyrighted text used in the quote parameter of a reference ought to be handled differently than a quote inserted into the main text of an article? Click on the iThenticate link to view the overlapping content. It should be pretty clear why I determined that there's too much overlap with the source, and had to remove it. If you are unable to rewrite this material in your own words, you will have to leave it out.{{pb}}Under current copyright law, literary works are subject to copyright whether they are tagged as such or not. No registration is required, and no copyright notice is required. So please always assume that all material you find online is copyright. That being said, the vast majority of print material and stuff you find online has its copyright status clearly indicated. :It's true that there's not a lot of specific guidance as to length or number of quotes whether in the article itself or embedded in the citations. Adding quotes to citations seems to be gaining in popularity, too. The guideline [[Wikipedia:Non-free content#Text]] says "Extensive quotation of copyrighted text is prohibited" but it doesn't specify how much is too much or how many quotes are too many. So it's a judgement call, both within the article and within the citations.{{pb}}Within an article, I usually remove a quote if it's more than one or two sentences, especially if the content could readily be rewritten. Edit summary is typically "remove quotation; there's no reason why original prose could not be prepared". Sometimes I will trim for length if the editor has added an overlong quote from a movie review or book review. If an editor has added an unenlightening adspeak quote from a press release I will typically remove it. Other cases where the article shows an overuse of quotations throughout where the article would kinda be destroyed if I removed it all, I will tag for {{tlx|Over-quotation}} and let the interested editors decide what to do. I sometimes use the same tag for over-quotation within citations as well.{{pb}}Regarding quotations within citations: if the subject matter is controversial or the sources are not readily accessible, I will leave it alone. Quotes from readily available web content on material that is not controversial or not likely to be challenged are good candidates for removal, especially if the amount and number and length of quotations is out of proportion to the length of the article. Regarding the Nobel Prize speech, my opinion is that the quotation is too long and not very enlightening, and I would likely remove it and suggest the editor should offer an external link instead. I might try trimming it to a much shorter excerpt if I had the time and thought I could do so in an effective way. [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 14:34, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

:::I use quotations in a limited way to more accurately convey some unique insight from the source that is difficult to paraphrase, and especially for critical assessment of books, movies and the like. My personal rule of thumb is that one or two sentences are fine, three sentences may be OK, and four sentences might be justified in unusual circumstances. I also take into consideration the length of the source. I would never use four sentences from a brief newspaper article, but may occasionally use four sentences from a book or a lengthy journal article.

I'm a on a fairly steep learning curve here. Firstly, I see a you've left a notice on the editors page, so now they are no longer using that url. It does seem from the Earwig, that the three urls the editor is using, constitute about 90%+ of the article. It looks as though the contents been copied across. That is one of the problems, its not referenced either. I would say it is close to "All of article violates copyright" from [[WP:COPYVIO]]. That would be assuming they are not public domain sources. How would you tell? I want to add some material to the page for Vehicle Routing but I'm not sure if I am following copyright.

Hey, I didn’t copy word for word everything in the sources, I made quite a lot of changings to the wording and summarised info all aligning, per the sources. The only thing I really copied mostly entirely was the witness’s quotes, which I could summarise. If anything I made the section more informative. We’re editors and we edit based on what the sources say and its credibility. Is he guilty or not, is up to the readers. But what I could say is he was confirmed and exposed for lying about killing 21 Viet Cong in his reports, which later was actually identified as dozens of women and children which won him the Bronze Star. For 32 years he kept quiet until journalists found out about the incident. Now that says a lot. Now Whether his complicity or not, the Vietnamese side of the story and its witnesses statements is equally important. I don’t think you should remove it outright. I am a little concerned about the edit you made [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Schindler%27s_List&diff=1098356024&oldid=1098313079 here]. It wasn't merely a refernce that was needed, but rahter context. What struck me about the writing was that it seemed as if the contributor to the article was making the claim as opposed to the source. With regards to the Rosner source, I've copyedited the statement to reflect that it is ''Rosner's'' opinion, not ours.
Unfortunately, the Ligocka source is more problematic. Nowhere in the book that you added as a source specifically/explicitly mentions that the girl in the red coat featured in the film is Ligocka. Thoughts? - [[User:Jack Sebastian|Jack Sebastian]] ([[User talk:Jack Sebastian|talk]]) 16:51, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
:You can view the Rosner article online, and it specifies that it is Genia-Gittel Hail's relatives (not Rosner) who believe the girl was their relative. I don't have access to the other source (Ligocka) and I am not the person who added that content. The content was already there when I made my first edit to the article in 2010. The content appears to have originated based on [https://www.ign.com/articles/2004/03/10/schindlers-list this 2004 article] which states that Logocka is the girl in the red coat. [https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/101525/the-girl-in-the-red-coat-by-roma-ligocka-with-iris-von-finckenstein--translated-by-margot-bettauer-dembo/ This blurb] shows that Ligocka might believe that she is the girl. What we have to realize is that there may have been several Jewish girls in Krakow who owned red coats. I am going to amend the text to reflect this. In the future, please note that this type of discussion belongs on the article talk page, not here. I am not the only person maintaining this article - there's several knowledgeable contributors who do so. Thanks. — [[User:Diannaa|Diannaa]] ([[User talk:Diannaa|talk]]) 19:57, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
::Of course I am aware of the regular practice of bringing discussions about content up in the article discussion space, but topics such as what I brought up are pretty emptionally charged, and it seemed prudent to make sure that no increased offense was taken at the edit; for example, someone freaked out over the removal of the carnage images in the Rape of Nanjing article a few years ago, or the emotional, nationalistic flame wars that erupted after the ''300'' was released. That sort of emotional investment is non-conducive to collaborative editing. That said, I am glad that we had a civil discussion about this. - [[User:Jack Sebastian|Jack Sebastian]] ([[User talk:Jack Sebastian|talk]]) 04:39, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Rmstonebcs (talk) 14:09, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, one problem is that some of the content you added is identical to material found on the school's website, here. Another problem is you removed properly sourced negative information. You also appear to have a conflict of interest. Editing the article about your own organisation is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. Please read the information about conflict of interest on your user talk page. --Diannaa (talk) 15:18, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Hennagin

[edit]

Hi Diannaa. Could you take a look at this edit made to Michael Hennagin? I've already undone the edit per WP:NOTCV, but it also kind of looks like it could've been possibly copied directly from "MacMillan, Duncan; The Piano Music of Michael Hennagin: An Introductory Examination Dissertation, University of Oklahoma, 1987 (Appendix F)". Is there anyway to check to see whether this kind of thing is a copyvio when no url is provided for the source? I tried Googling it since sometimes dissertations end up becoming books or otherwise are published online, but came up empty. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:04, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marchjuly, I couldn't find a way to access the document either. But I'm not sure we need to worry about copy vio, as it's a list of compositions. Diannaa (talk) 12:20, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking at this Diannaa. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:02, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I see you undid a section I added on the two witnesses as contemporaries. I am the author of the cited dissertation. I was not aware that I had quoted the document so closely. I apologize. I have actually rewritten that section, and I have tried to alter the wording significantly, so that it is not a quotation or plagarization. I will add it in and let you be the judge. Malachirobertson (talk) 13:47, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please review the our convlict of interest guideline, particularly the section WP:CITESELF. Thanks, --Diannaa (talk) 13:57, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you pointing this out. I was aware of this and have tried not to cite my work specifically and to not even put it in the references section, but rather highlight the works of others that I found helpful in my own study of the history of the interpretation of the two witnesses. Malachirobertson (talk) 14:00, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have had to remove a subsequent addition as it is still too close to the source document.--Diannaa (talk) 23:32, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which addition did you remove? Curious. Malachirobertson (talk) 00:00, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I see. It was the section on the witnesses as contemporaries. Any suggestions on how I can make it less like the source, so that this section is not absent from the article? Malachirobertson (talk) 00:08, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The edit was flagged by the CopyPatrol system. It might help you to view what was found by the detection service in the most recent edit. The report is here. You can check the results from Turnitin by viewing the iThenticate report. In order to review the iThenticate report you will have to first log in to the CopyPatrol system (upper right corner of the page). You will be asked to provide authorization at Meta for access to your account.
Next, click on the link to the iThenticate report, so that you can see what was found by the detection service. I think it is at this point you are asked to agree to the terms of use of the Turnitin people, who have kindly donated the use of this tool to Wikipedia. The overlapping content will be highlighted (the iThenticate report may take a while to load).
The content you add should not include any wording from the source material. Summarize rather than paraphrase, and don't try to include every single detail. This will typically result in the new version being much shorter than the source document. It also helps to have more than one source to draw from. Gotta go, the battery is dying on my laptop so I have to log off now. Diannaa (talk) 00:55, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for dealing with the copyvio revdel on this article. The author has immediately replaced the offending passage - I've marked it again for deletion but strongly suspect she'll just keep putting it back. At what point does page protection come into play? Ingratis (talk) 08:11, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The editor's most recent post indicates that they do not yet understand how copyright works. So I've added another message to their talk page. Typically if there's just one person I would do a block before page protection. I will watch the article for a while. -- Diannaa (talk) 11:55, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to handle long quotes

[edit]

I recently noticed a proliferation of long passages presented as quotes. While quotation and attribution is considered an acceptable way of presenting copyrighted material, the Wikipedia essay wp:quotations offers some guidance. That guidance has two defects — it's an essay so does not have the force of policy, and it is (understandably) short on specific guidance as to acceptable length.

I've accepted a number of such situations some of which are quite short and therefore in my opinion quite appropriate. Others are longer than I would like but I've accepted them. However this one strikes me as a bit too long (392 words): 1963 Nobel Prize in Literature: Difference between revisions

What are your thoughts on how this should be handled?

As an aside, while this one is not a specific example, I've seen in increased usage of long passages in the quote parameter within a reference. I'm a big fan of using exact passages to support a point made in my own words, but I generally try to excerpt a short a passage as possible. You have any thoughts on whether copyrighted text used in the quote parameter of a reference ought to be handled differently than a quote inserted into the main text of an article? S Philbrick(Talk) 13:47, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's true that there's not a lot of specific guidance as to length or number of quotes whether in the article itself or embedded in the citations. Adding quotes to citations seems to be gaining in popularity, too. The guideline Wikipedia:Non-free content#Text says "Extensive quotation of copyrighted text is prohibited" but it doesn't specify how much is too much or how many quotes are too many. So it's a judgement call, both within the article and within the citations.
Within an article, I usually remove a quote if it's more than one or two sentences, especially if the content could readily be rewritten. Edit summary is typically "remove quotation; there's no reason why original prose could not be prepared". Sometimes I will trim for length if the editor has added an overlong quote from a movie review or book review. If an editor has added an unenlightening adspeak quote from a press release I will typically remove it. Other cases where the article shows an overuse of quotations throughout where the article would kinda be destroyed if I removed it all, I will tag for {{Over-quotation}} and let the interested editors decide what to do. I sometimes use the same tag for over-quotation within citations as well.
Regarding quotations within citations: if the subject matter is controversial or the sources are not readily accessible, I will leave it alone. Diannaa (talk) 14:34, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the indepth answer. S Philbrick(Talk) 18:14, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I use quotations in a limited way to more accurately convey some unique insight from the source that is difficult to paraphrase, and especially for critical assessment of books, movies and the like.
But my main reason for coming by is to thank you, Diannaa, for all of your outstanding work on copyright issues over the years. I deeply appreciate your expertise. Cullen328 (talk) 20:49, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your kind remarks Cullen328, and for adding another perspective on the quotations issue. Diannaa (talk) 20:54, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed a slight increase in footquote reports at CopyPatrol and wonder sometimes "How many are too many quotes" or "How long is too long". I'm not always comfortable at making judgement calls, but leaving the report open and with that leaving more work for others seems also not ideal. Nobody (talk) 14:51, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't like doing it either; I never know what's going to provoke someone into getting nasty about it. Most times there's no response or at worst they revert me. But hopefully they learn something too. Diannaa (talk) 14:59, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Problematic edit comment

[edit]

Hi Diannaa, I'd suggest you revision-delete [3] or at least its edit comment. The content seems harmless enough (if not constructive), but the comment is offensive. Or if I should rather report this elsewhere, please let me know. Gawaon (talk) 08:56, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thank you for reporting this. Diannaa (talk) 13:16, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bob Kerrey

[edit]

OutsidersInsight (talk) 15:39, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My main purpose in visiting the article was to do the copyright cleanup. I found you have copied content (other than the direct quotations) from at least three of your sources so I took all that ourr. There were some quotes and left some of them in. But I removed some that were not directly related to the subject of the article, as to leave them in place seemed inappropriate per our policy WP:BLP which helps us to protect the rights of living people. User undid all my contributions

[edit]

The user user:CurryTime7-24 keeps removing all my contributions and first I tried not to take it personally but now I'm feeling hounded. I added contributions to some articles, added the sources and he removed all of my edits simply because he didn't like the sourced link. He suggested IMSLP, which doesn't even have information about the text I added. Now it's a back and forth of him removing my entire contributions, regardless of what's inside. Right now he's removing the one I had added after you told me to review it, which I did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psycho_(1960_film) He's moved onto every other revision I made and it's turning into an editing war. Please advise. John40332 (talk) 14:45, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like all the additions use www.sheetmusicx.com as a citation. Do you have any assocuation with that website? --Diannaa (talk) 15:32, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't, they're the only publisher releasing those works, that's why information about those pieces is so scarce. John40332 (talk) 15:35, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The website does not appear to be the official publisher for any of these scores. For sure they are not the official publishers for the Herrmann and Shostakovich works that John40322 added the link to. The company that they cite to also appears to be brand new. I haven't looked through all of its catalog, but a lot of its scores do not appear to even be available for sale until next year. None of these works are obscure. So it's odd that this editor chooses to cite a very obscure music publisher.
Some of this user's edits are also perhaps unintentionally misleading. This edit at Tahiti Trot suggested that the site they linked to was the first to publish the original score and parts. This would be incorrect, as previously existing sources in the article already confirm. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:11, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The "obscure" publisher has been in business for over a decade and is a respectable publisher
https://daniels-orchestral.com/other-resources/publishers/s/
Their publishings go back to 2010 https://recherche-collection-search.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/Home/Search?q=STRAUSS&num=25&start=0&enviro=prod&DateBucket=2010-2019%7C2010&DataSource=Library

The website registration shows 2010 in fact https://lookup.icann.org/en/lookup

I don't know why you specifically have to be convinced of it in order for edits to stick, but I'm done even trying, just because you don't know something doesn't mean it's fake or dubious, it's people like you that make editing on Wikipedia so unpleasant. John40332 (talk) 16:17, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to discuss this somewhere else please. Diannaa (talk) 16:28, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The user:CurryTime7-24 continues harassing me and WP:HOUNDING, if I edit 4 articles he goes right there to undo what I edit, regardless of the content, you just have to see his history where he goes around reverting whatever I touch. Now he is trying to report me as a bot, when I'm clearly not one. At this point I'd like to know if there's a way to stop him from interacting with my edits, or some temporary block on him? He's making editing on Wikipedia very unfriendly and acts like he owns it WP:OWN. I cited proper sources in my edits, I don't know why he's been targeting me but it's exhausting. John40332 (talk) 09:44, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is already being discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical music and Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Sorry but I don't have time to get involved. It's an edit war orver the reliability of a particular website, and I don't have time to get into that.--Diannaa (talk) 13:37, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Backendgaming sockpuppets

[edit]

Hi Diannaa, I am asking for your opinion on this subject because you were an admin that dealt with the SPI case against Backendgaming. Since the last recorded incidents from 2018, I noticed there were further potential sockpuppet accounts made since then, including the following:

All of which display a notable overlap in edit style and choice of topic with Backendgaming. Although some have not been used recently, and the others have been recently blocked for personal attacks against other editors, my question is whether you think it is worth doing a checkuser on these accounts as sockpuppets of Backendgaming? If identified as socks, it would help in watching over articles that tends to be targeted, help identify further socks as Backendgaming remains actively editing, and may help to undo a lot the disruptive edits already made. Any thoughts on this are appreciated. Thanks. 37.0.81.237 (talk) 10:32, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know mich about this topic. Please go to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Backendgaming to file your report. Thanks, Diannaa (talk) 11:52, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Diannaa! Happy almost new year :) I see that you removed and revdeleted content at Shin Godzilla (character) from Wikizilla stating that it wasn't compatible and then later on at Tiamat (Godzilla) declined the G12 and attributed it. Do you think it's ultimately compatible? I see that it's been removed and revdelled at Kong (Monsterverse) additionally, and I just reverted a removal at User:GojiraFan1954/sandbox/Goro Maki myself, so it seems like we're all off-base and I thought I'd get another opinion. Hi Sennecaster, that's a good question. Their copyright page is hard to find, so I bookmarked it. Here it is. Diannaa (talk) 09:41, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
