Habbo raid
The source listed for the story about the child with AIDS says it was an RV park that denied pool access, not an amusement park. This is a pretty big difference. == Info Bus versus Infobus ==
Role Play is the most important part of habbo, I made a section on it in the article, but it was deleted
I also belive on US hotel their is an RPG floor. So www.habbo.com/client is the source. And, it happens also on the www.habbo.com.au/client domain.
if someone knows a reliable source on this unofficail pat of habbo, add it.

It looks like an Info Bus is spelled differently depending on the geography or who sponsors it. I chose Info Bus after checking the official Habbo North America Web site, even though the screen captures clearly show that it is different on Habbo UK and possibly elsewhere. --DeweyQ 13:04, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

The infamous raids, once again.
The Habbo Raids
The REAL reason for all these 'raids' and other anoying things are based on two main things... ONE is the fact on yes, racism is a commen one. But... on the level of the Habbo 'Mafia' a verry simmilar to the real life mafia we all know. It occurs when two orginizations, or 'familys' have a dissagreement over something wich can turn towards war. After one of the many more destructive wars the real Habbo 'mafia' had fallen apart then residing to the Mafia RPG. The RPG has nothing to do with the raids and hackings like the one of 2008, it is the mafia. And do not think that the MODS and staff havent been bought. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by Gipsonman25 (talk • contribs) 15:13, 27 July 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
OK, here we go... I was *THERE* for the raids (as a passive observer). Not only that, the screenshots, videos, etc., pretty much undeniably prove that the raids *did occur*. But *THIS IS NOT WHAT IS AT ISSUE*. The problem is the notability of the raids, within the context of Habbo Hotel.
"Before asking to include mention of the raids in the article, please be aware that the raids are already mentioned in the article, under Reviews, awards and criticism. When discussing the raids on this talk page, please read Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources."

Firstly, the raids are a LOT more significant than 1 sentence; secondly, the original reason behind the raids was due to racism of the mods; Thirdly, using the "Anonymous on Fox 11" is as FAR from a reliable source as you can possibly go. By the same source, I could say that Habbo Hotel is a children's game and that a nonexistent gang enjoys destroying it. An article on an MMORPG should NOT tell someone every gameplay nuance of said MMORPG.
Now, first off, ask any Habbo user, and most will know about the raids. They're definitely felt as notable by the Habbo community. The issue, then, is neither verification of their existence, nor their notability to the community, but verification of their notability. And this is where things become difficult - We could conduct polling of Habbo users to see who is aware, but that would be WP:OR. And outside of sites like ED (Which I very much respect as an excellent compendium of lulz, but which doesn't even try to be an academic reference), and sites related to the communities taking part in the raid, there's not a whole lot out there that we can look to to verify the notability of these incidents.
Also, how is it that this horribly written article is longer than the articles on a Blizzard and E.B. White?
Hell, this article is longer than the article on 4chan. Wow. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Soniczip (talk • contribs) </span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned -->

:I wholeheartedly agree. The Wiki guidelines that place the use of stories by real-world news sources over sources such as blogs is usually make perfect sense, but not in this case. I did some Googling on "Habbo Raids" and every source was some sort of blog, forum, or YouTube video. I switched it to a "news" Google search, and there wasn't a single result.
When it makes WIRED, then I say go ahead and add it. Jumbo Snails 07:33, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

:There are simply no reliable third-party publications that talk about these raids, even if they are one of the most documented events in Internet history. The amount that the raids are mentioned is just a step above not mentioning them at all. The raids are too important to leave out.
I completely disagree, if publication in WIRED is our criteria for technology-related articles I think quite a few currently up would not exist; both the accusations of racism and the subsequent raids carried out by a slew of groups are noteworthy and have plagued Habbo's existence, I am absolutely certain the average Habbo user is aware of them. Refusing to include them is nothing short of passive racism~. --87.194.98.220 22:39, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

:Looking around the entries for other popular online communities, I see that there are plenty of citation holes for Fark, YTMND, and /b/. But in these cases, the facts are still presented, even if that means the articles have first or second-party sources or even (GASP!) a few "citation needed" labels. It seems that as a general rule, important facts (especially heavily-documented, undisputed ones) are still put into the entries, even if there aren't any real-world stories about them. There is really no reason to treat this entry any differently, other than being a stickler for the official Wikipedia rules.
:Interestingly enough, I think the mere fact that one raid has occured and another is occuring. It seems very tilting to not even mention the raids like they have been for Hal Turner. <font color="black">Yank</font><font color="red">sox</font> 21:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

:News reporters and the other things that Wikipedia considers to be reliable sources simply almost never talk about what's going on in the online world. Perhaps there should be some sort of reconsidering of the rules for these types of entries, or else they will be either perpetually filled with holes or lacking in basic information. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by Fireproof88 (talk • contribs) 04:33, 2 November 2007 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

::I agree. That fox article is nothing but POV, and using a POV sources makes the article a POV article. Here's a little anecdote for why the raids should be included: Until very recently, we have had no complete skeletons of dodo birds. There have been bones, and drawings, but none enough to conclusively show exactly what a dodo bird might have looked like. The idea that since we could not conclusively depict the dodo bird therefore it never existed is obviously ridiculous, but it is tantamount to saying the raids never happened because no "legitimate" sources exist. :::No one is saying that the raids never happened because no legitimate sources exist &ndash; they are not included in the article because no legitimate sources can explain what the raiders claim are happened (that is, the racist mods, that other stuff). :::::*"surprising or apparently important claims that are not widely known" due to repeated incidents and aruging in the chatroom (although this is my WP:OR, im sure others will agree) and visual disruption by identically dresses users, I conject most Habbo users are aware of vandalism/trolling/bad people on Habbo, so this is widely known.
:::::*"surprising or apparently important reports of historical events not covered by mainstream news media or historiography;" sadly fails, someone should check if Habbo has updated any policies since the raids or commented about it itself.
:::::*"reports of a statement by someone that seems out of character, embarrassing, controversial, or against an interest they had previously defended;" passes, trolling is common in the internet/internet communities, look at slashdot for how common it is.

:::::*"Unsourced material obtained from a Wikipedian's personal experience, such as an unpublished eyewitness account, should not be added to articles. :: Interesting to note that nobody has suggested that we site Encyclopedia Dramatica. I can provide numerous screencaps as well as links to websites used as staging points for the raids. For example: http://www.poolsclosed.com/ http://txt.7chan.org/i/#8 (That last one may not stay current for long) but I can also upload screencaps if you request them. look, the seriousness of the topic of the raids isnt what matters, its factual accuracy. And if there is no mention of an event, then that is just as bad as inaccuracy. Should we include a section about the new release? This meaning the new homepage, clothes, etc.

I did a major edit and renamed "Habbo Hotel" to "Habbo", as Sulake now only mentions the brand as "Habbo" and rarely refers to it as "Habbo Hotel". I reformatted the article to meet those changes. I mentioned the fact that Habbo is now a social networking website as Sulake refers to it as that on their explanation of the site, hence I removed everything about Habbo being a "game" and changed all "players of Habbo" to "users of Habbo", I also changed the infobox to meet this. I have also removed the article from the "Video game" WikiProject, as it is clearly not a video game.
I dont see how this can be considered a dead topic. The raids are important and are still happening regularly. Saying it is a "dead topic" could be compared to saying Darfur is a dead topic: talking about something and then not having any action does not make the subject any less relevant; this is an invalid argument. 65.175.208.92

: Trolls and vandals continue to beat this topic with a dead horse. The continuing vandalism of this page only goes on to show that it should not be included. Does anyone know who the richest habbo is? I've heard a character named americansheriff on habbo.co.uk. It would be an interesting fact and important to show just how important it is to a lot of people. I've heard of people investing thousands in it?

No-one has addressed views of Habbo being an efficient method of relieving kids of their pocket money/allowance. Not to mention the absurdity of handing over cash for pixels. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.245.158.55 (talk) 02:33, 16 January 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
If someone can confirm some users of notable wealth then we could discuss the possibility of adding them. It would make them a celebrity because 66 million people use habbo and there must be some extremely wealthy habbos around.

Also the prevalence of scamming and scripting should be mentioned more, many scripters have openly admitted wanting to destroy habbo (destroy something which brings fun to millions, God knows why but regardless) from within and perhaps the many online petitions and general protest against the removal of the hobbas. <small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.107.217.14 (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC).</small><!-- HagermanBot Auto-Unsigned -->

More Information On The Raids
EDITOR'S NOTE - IMPORTANT
Came across this article while checking the 4chan article. The third paragraph from the bottom has a slight mention of the raids on Habbo, linking it to 4chan on the second page. Its from Wired Magazine, which many would believe to be a reliable source. Thoughts to adding its info into this article? --<span style="color:gold;">Ghost</span><span style="color:blue;">Stalker</span><small>(Got a present for ya! | Mission Log)</small> 22:50, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Every part of the Hotel DOES NOT have to be covered.
: I added the only detail there. –Pomte 23:25, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hotel's Habbo Xs do NOT need to be listed
- Every game on the Hotel does NOT need to be listed
- Small parts such as furniture prices DO NOT need to be listed.
Put yourself in the article reader's position. You wouldn't need to know everything.
Also, when using the word "Habbos" try to replace it with "players" (e.g. Players in the Hotel instead of Habbos in the Hotel.

On February 20, 2008, Habbo USA was hacked by a character known as Finch-HIMself at approx. 3 PM. Apparently, Finch-HIMself went to the most-known trade room to Habbo which was owned by HAPPY. Finch has gained access to the Habbo house keeping sites being able to get access into a few moderator and staff accounts, MOD-Kitka, CrestHawk. Few moderator accounts have been to be said deleted. At 5:30 PM, Habbo USA shut down for maintenance break. At 7:00 PM, a report was read by Habtips DJ Yoshi in which he said, "According to Habbo Officials, Habbo USA could be shut down from anywhere from the next 5 hours to next week." That report is yet to be confirmed from Sulake. Before the USA Hotel shutdown, many locked their rooms to prevent Finch to come in. According to other Habbo players, Finch was only looking for Habbo Club Members and was trying to get their furniture. Habbo Club Members was advised to dress as normals and hide their HC badge. According to DJ Dark on Habtips Radio, "Okay Habbos, I've been told that player accounts have not been deleted, but account furniture and credits might not be restored." Many Habbo players feared the permanent shut down of Habbo Hotel USA. Some even said that even if the game was restored, they would not play anymore because their furniture and credits could not be restored. It has also been said that Finch was banned from Habbo USA at one point. Somehow, Finch unbanned himself. It was also said that Finch-HIMself only targeted the greedy rich Habbos. Finch-HIMself wasn't a selfish man, considering he was rich himself. Few reports said that the stolen furniture from the trade rooms, and from the casinos went to "Noobs" or the poor, new players. Unfortunately, the furniture was taken from them, and given back the the rightful owners. Dobby421 (talk) 01:55, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Several changes
I think that some changes are in place for the Habbo article.

Group pages

<blockquote>
Users can create groups and design a badge to display on their Habbo Home next to their avatar while in the Hotel. Each group also has a homepage which acts similarly to a Habbo Home, but the group owner and group administrators can only edit it. The majority of the website's content and promotions organised by the site's management is now displayed in groups.</blockquote>

With Release 22, users are now able to link a room to be their 'group headquarters'. This link will be displayed in the Group page's 'Group Info' box.

Minimail

The Minimail service was introduced in Release 22. The Minimail allows users to send message in e-mail-like-form to their online or offline friends via the website. Mass minimail is also available, where users click multiple friends in their Habbo Console and click a button on their Console to be directed to the website where they are able to compose their message and send it.

Instant Messaging

The Instant Messaging features now allows users to communicate with other users or their friends easily without the hassle of Minimail. The Instant Messaging feature is like the MSN Messenger. Users are able to freely communicate with other users in real time, unlike the Minimail. Khaizz (talk) 15:10, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Given this has international scope, I don't see how a purely locally-driven source can qualify either. -<span style="color: #FF00FF;">Rushyo</span> <span style="color: #990099; font-size: 0.8em;">Talk</span> 03:05, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Uhhh...the Major Protest group actually is the one calling themselves "Anonymous", the original Anons are the ones that got mixed up in the San Antonio pool.

This clearly is a newspaper which is what wikipedia uses mainly for its sources. There's more of them, though.

<blockquote class="templatequote"><div>
Members conducted the Great Habbo Raid of ’06 and the Great Habbo Raid of ’07 on the Habbo Hotel Web site. Habbo Hotel is a social networking site for teenagers where users create a cartoon avatar to represent themselves and roam through the virtual world and chat with others.

The Anonymous members all adopted the same avatar of the black man in a suit and blocked access to the pool area of the hotel, shouting at others, “Pool’s Closed due to AIDS.” The swarm of activity caused the site’s servers to crash.

“We all create characters who are black, afro and a business suit cause we feel like it,” a member e-mailed. “No one knows why we do it but we do.”

All the e-mails insisted the character, known as “Nigra Jim,” is not intended to be racist, just an inside joke.
</div>{{#if:http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/Net_users_insist_its_joke.html|<div class="templatequotecite">&#8212;<cite>http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/Net_users_insist_its_joke.html{{#if:|,&nbsp;{}}}</cite></div >}}</blockquote>

<blockquote class="templatequote"><div>
“The origin of the ‘Pool’s Closed’ image depicting an African American with an Afro is an image from our Internet ‘crusade’ to protest racism in the online game ‘Habbo Hotel’,” an e-mailer with the pseudonym Patriot9000 told the Herald-Zeitung. “The (moderators) in this game automatically ban players with easily identifiable African American features such as the afro and dark skin ... [On July 10], we decided to start our protest in real life.”

In recent years, Anonymous has staged raids — a coordinated attempt to crash a Web site’s server — on Habbo, which features a virtual hotel area with a swimming pool. Some users like Patriot9000 say the “Pool’s Closed” slogan relates to a 2006 Web coup when hundreds of people, all bearing the likeness of the black man on the sign, managed to shut down Habbo’s server.

Number of Communities and Number of Servers/websites.
There is 32 (not 31) local Habbo communities (30 countries), but there is only actually 19 servers. E.g. Habbo.es is the server but it is also the same community as habbo.com.mx.
We should really be making it clear there is 30 communties and 19 websites/servers. :)

these links might make it clearer:

http://www.habborator.org/facts/# (maybe click 'URL list' at the top)

According to sulake.com/habbo it's 32 so i'm changing the list.

Lots need to be fixed
There are bits of the article that are name dropping (probably naming their own habbo name) for instance; "Habbos from any room, mute them (prevent them from speaking) and ban them from the hotel entirely.[16] On Australian Hotel, MODs are often disrescected by well known players such as -James-Bond-007-, and Obsidian" <-Obviously the guy's own account names on Habbo.

About The Habbo Raid, it was started by 4chan (the website) not by some group called Anonymous and i suggest raids be scrapped considering there is one every day not just "Great Raid of 2006" lol, aka Nigra/4chan Raid.

"Habbo" is a word based on 'Habit'

I Suggest this article be cleaned up.

I suggest you shut your trap. And raids dont occur daily, they are actually infrequent nowadays.

It was recently announced by the Sulake CEO, Paul LaFontaine, that a new hotel would be launching in a new country for an entirely new language that hasn't been previously available before. Sources are: http://twitter.com/#!/PaulLaFo/status/187262417745612801

So basically, I think the history section needs to be updated to say that they are launching a new hotel soon. Moreover, a new blog has been launched by Habbo at blog.habbo.com so that can also be stated in the history section :).Arsenalfan24 (talk) 15:34, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

what the hell
Supposedly including a news article on Channel 4's report emphasising Habbo in an entirely NEGATIVE light is now accentuating neutrality in the article. It does NOT belong in the article's lead at all. The article is about 'Habbo', the company, not about Channel 4's findings. Complete lunacy.Arsenalfan24 (talk) 16:26, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Channel 4 made a report, this lead to the two biggest shareholders selling their stakes and three of the largest retailers to stop selling their products - this was covered in all of the major UK newspapers, on the BBC and around the world in other high-profile reliable sources - how is that not lede worthy? You seem to misunderstand what NPOV means - it does not mean that we do not report negative reporting about an organisation, it simply means that we stick to what a range of RS are saying about a matter and do not inject our own commentary. --Cameron Scott (talk) 16:30, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

:Yes for the time being it deserves a mention in the lede. It's a serious accusation against a service aimed at children, and the Channel 4 report was a 2-month investigation demonstrating systemic failure, not some minor incident. This article IS about Habbo - the service has been disrupted and its long-term viability is in question - this certainly should be in the lede. If Sulake manage to fix the problem with Habbro, then the lede can mention that as well. Pasicles (talk) 22:52, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

an intersting point is Common Sense Media in the Reception part. it gives another point of view on habbo reality and this can help the reader to make his own point of view, as this article is written mainly using the editor of the games sources.

unfortunately, the info is outdated and not referenced. i propose to change it by this text:
----
Common Sense Media, a non-profit association advocating for children and families, and studiing the effects that media and technology have on young users, reports that foul talk and sexy chat rooms dominate [this] virtual world, giving it one star on five and don't recommend it for kids of any age .

Blanked section on the raids
I'm interested in discussing this edit. The editor blanked a section covering historical internet raids of Habbo using this page's FAQ (containing the line: "Through general consensus, the raids should not be included because there are no verifiable citations.") as justification. The problem as I see it is that the blanked section did have verifiable RSes attached so there would seem to be two options here:
*1 - Restore the raids subsection and alter the FAQ by deleting the ban on mention of the raids
*2 - Alter the FAQ's reasoning for a new consensus that the raids shouldn't be mentioned for some other reason (e.g. UNDUE or IAR)
To give some background on this particular case, the editor who blanked the section just now had recently requested deletion of the article covering the internet group who launched the raid and for full disclosure, I was arguing that it should be kept. I don't have any investment one way or the other for the Habbo article though. The material covering the raids is properly sourced and more sources exist, but consensus can reject this section too. I'm just looking for clarity here. Are there any opinions? -Thibbs (talk) 19:15, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
:OK I've restored the sourced section and adjusted the FAQ for now since the previous rationale leading to consensus was no longer valid. If a new consensus is formed to suggesting that the raids should not be mentioned for some other reason then that's fine and we can always restore the edits and update the FAQ again if needed. -Thibbs (talk) 14:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
::I think that if the raids are covered in reliable sources in a way that shows they are an important part of Habbo history, then sure. My two cents: having never heard of Habbo before I reverted some vandalism, I find the screen shot (crappy though it may be to some) far more useful and informative than the logo. -- <b>[[User:Richard_D._LeCour|<font color="#000099">Richard D. :-I concur; I saw the activity on this article in Recent Changes and figured that I would check it out. I saw both images, the logo first and then the screenshot. The logo looked like something from an old Atari game: low tech, pixelated, etc. Granted, the screenshot is the same way, but a person can immediately tell what "Habbo" is at the first glance of the article. As the image that was loaded is small and is a fair representation of the game, I personally believe that the screenshot is an acceptable image for the infobox. Mec modifier 04:37, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
:I'm inclined to agree - the screen shot grabs the reader more. I first came upon this article reverting vandalism (unrelated - weeks ago), and I saw the screen shot and immediately understood what habbo's were. The logo may belong elsewhere in the article, but not as the very first image. Natalie 04:39, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
:I agree with everything Natalie says. The logo belongs in the article, but not in the infobox (which implies giving information - the screenshot is much more informative than the logo), and not when the logo image has jpeg compression artifacts, a weird crop and a black background. Alternatively, you can add to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
Just an observation, but after visiting the USA Habbo website, I saw that the game is geared more for teens; the Habbo site mentioned this in no less than 3 places that I saw in my quick read-through. This article only makes one mention of teens, in the Sponsor section. I suggest adding a blurb to the introduction, such as:<blockquote>Habbo Hotel is a virtual community <font color="#000099">for teenagers</font> owned and operated by Sulake Corporation that combines the two concepts of a chat room and an online game.</blockquote> I figure that the two words for teenagers is a small enough edit that it gets the point across without bogging down the intro or article, and lets "old folks" like me know it's not really suited for them. The Habbo Raids

[edit]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Gipsonman25 (talkcontribs) 15:13, 27 July 2008 (UTC) "Before asking to include mention of the raids in the article, please be aware that the raids are already mentioned in the article, under Reviews, awards and criticism. When discussing the raids on this talk page, please read Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources."[reply]

Also, how is it that this horribly written article is longer than the articles on a Blizzard and E.B. White? Hell, this article is longer than the article on 4chan. Wow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Soniczip (talkcontribs)

I wholeheartedly agree.
There are simply no reliable third-party publications that talk about these raids, even if they are one of the most documented events in Internet history. The amount that the raids are mentioned is just a step above not mentioning them at all. The raids are too important to leave out.
Looking around the entries for other popular online communities, I see that there are plenty of citation holes for Fark, YTMND, and /b/.
News reporters and the other things that Wikipedia considers to be reliable sources simply almost never talk about what's going on in the online world. Perhaps there should be some sort of reconsidering of the rules for these types of entries, or else they will be either perpetually filled with holes or lacking in basic information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fireproof88 (talkcontribs) 04:33, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. 209.217.124.85 (talk) 02:48, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No one is saying that the raids never happened because no legitimate sources exist – they are not included in the article because no legitimate sources can explain what the raiders claim are happened (that is, the racist mods, that other stuff). The article currently says that the hotel is often the victim to internet trolls. The fox article might be biased, but the current statement in the article isn't. 04:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
I know what happened in those raids. I organised several of them myself via IRC and the chans. I know every part of every routine "performed" there. It all happened. Need only to take a look at ED to see pictorial evidence. /b/lackup! was the rally call by the way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.166.198.55 (talk) 00:23, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the big, bold notice on the top can be a little more... aggressive. :) Seicer (talk) (contribs) 04:58, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's handling this terribly. They cant demand IRL credible news for everything, especially online things like these raids. The raids wont be covered in real news (excluding that half second clip of a raid in the ridiculous fox bit on anonymous), and just because its not covered doesnt mean wikipedia shouldnt have more than a sentance on the topic. user:Kaneda435
There is a wiki policy that would over ride or complement WP:RS, Wikipedia:Consensus. The consensus is proved by "A limited mention of the raids in the article doesn't mean that the raids did not happen – no one is denying it.". Wikipedia:Consensus is an Official Policy, WP:RS guideline. It passes WP:FRINGE since the raid is a mainstream view. Consensus says it is. Regarding WP:REDFLAG
 • "Exceptional claims require exceptional sources", not an exceptional claim.
 • "surprising or apparently important claims that are not widely known" due to repeated incidents and aruging in the chatroom (although this is my WP:OR, im sure others will agree) and visual disruption by identically dresses users, I conject most Habbo users are aware of vandalism/trolling/bad people on Habbo, so this is widely known.
 • "surprising or apparently important reports of historical events not covered by mainstream news media or historiography;" sadly fails, someone should check if Habbo has updated any policies since the raids or commented about it itself.
 • "reports of a statement by someone that seems out of character, embarrassing, controversial, or against an interest they had previously defended;" passes, trolling is common in the internet/internet communities, look at slashdot for how common it is.
 • "claims contradicted by, or with no support within, the relevant academic community. Be particularly careful when proponents of such claims say there is a conspiracy to silence them." pass, no sources denying the raids.
So it passes (does not qualify as redflag) on 4 out of 5 flags for WP:REDFLAG. On WP:VERIFY
 • "Questionable sources should only be used in articles about themselves.", we can replace "articles" with "section"/"paragraph", that would allow us to quote websites of whoever did the raids, or whoever claims responsibility (who that is, is not upto me to decide).
From WP:NOR
 • "Unsourced material obtained from a Wikipedian's personal experience, such as an unpublished eyewitness account, should not be added to articles. It would violate both this policy and Verifiability, and would cause Wikipedia to become a primary source for that material." there are many quotes of people who witnessed the raids online im sure, they aren't unpublished, although the internet publishing does lessen source quality.
Still we have consensus to agree that the raids happened. WP:COS part of WP:NOR allows wikipedians to write about what they saw in the raids. Even if it was a hoax, WP:HOAX would allow us to mark it as such if it passes "notability". I say be bold and put it in, this talk page has enough consensus to do it. My opinion is, we should be careful about identifying any group by proper name (listing random) such as "DrinkOrDie", "Cult of the Dead Cow", "Chaos Computer Club", "Legion of Doom", "Masters of Deception", since that opens the biography can of worms, best would be to give a general outline of the group such as "a part/group/coalition of users of 4chan/*chan/* IRC channel on * IRC Network". Patcat88 (talk) 15:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, the raid should be included based on web sources. The MSM is not the only source of news. 64.135.210.75 (talk) 05:09, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
can someone correct that this was not solely anonymous, and also that the anonymous that performed the raids as "suit nigras" are different from the ones who are protesting Scientology? if you knew anything about how anonymous worked, you'd know that there is much antimosity towards Project Chanology by the anonymous that raided habbo.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.150.235.28 (talk) 14:04, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A new RAID group has come to Habbo Hotel USA the only information I have on them is that they call themeselves the LEGION OF HABBO BABIES and is believed to be created on September 14, 2008 at around 10:21pm central time over 45 babies were gathering in mazes and other rooms the leader is said to be dale-jr88 he even has a room named Habbo Baby Headquarters. Anyways be on the look out this group is said to be against HC members and they can be annoying.

A Major Edit

[edit]

Because of this name change, I have requested that this article, along with the talk page, be moved to Habbo, as oppose to Habbo Hotel. --Supermatique (talk) 03:47, 2 January 2008 (UTC

List of Hotels

[edit]

Why are hotels like Venezuela included, when they only link to a hotel/are exactly the same as another hotel, with just a different domain? http://www.sulake.com/habbo/?navi=2 can show the whole list of hotels, either all should be included or just the "main" country. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yhulkdsfdd (talkcontribs) 10:19, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Hacking Of February 20, 2008

[edit]

Should we add a section about how Habbo was (possibly) hacked on February 20, 2008 to the main article? I moved the paragraph below from the section above this to here.

Dobby421 (talk) 01:55, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would need pretty extensive sourcing, I would say, to even be considered for inclusion. Dreaded Walrus t c 01:52, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, this was never a lie as I have been playing this game and have been a victim of it. My habbo account was HabBrett and I got banned for recieving some of the fake coins. It was unfair, and I was unbanned as they took the coins.

Not done: By its name, the History section can't talk about things which have not yet happened. The blog might be added to the external links, if you'd like. Thanks, Celestra (talk) 20:43, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Managers & moderation edit

[edit]

I rewrote the Managers and moderation section to better represent current reality. After Sulake closed most of the local branch offices, there are no more local "Hotel managers" or other staff mentioned in the original text. Also added a reference to the paragraph concerning automatic filtering. --Lebha (talk) 08:16, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

what the hell

[edit]

Supposedly including a news article on Channel 4's report emphasising Habbo in an entirely NEGATIVE light is now accentuating neutrality in the article. It does NOT belong in the article's lead at all. The article is about 'Habbo', the company, not about Channel 4's findings. Complete lunacy.Arsenalfan24 (talk) 16:26, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

--Cameron Scott (talk) 16:30, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes for the time being it deserves a mention in the lede. Pasicles (talk) 22:52, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Habbo has fixed the problem, it should now be removed and/or the new updates of what Habbo has done to prevent this should be added to that section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaels541 (talkcontribs) 19:24, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

in the refs, several links are dead: 8, 9, 10, 12 at least, i didn't checked all. also links 20, 21, 22, 23 concerning the turkish hotelaren't giving any information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SyntaxTerror (talkcontribs) 22:17, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

info to update

[edit]

as i am éditing the french article, i translated some of this article.

an intersting point is Common Sense Media in the Reception part. it gives another point of view on habbo reality and this can help the reader to make his own point of view, as this article is written mainly using the editor of the games sources.

unfortunately, the info is outdated and not referenced. i propose to change it by this text:

Common Sense Media, a non-profit association advocating for children and families, and studiing the effects that media and technology have on young users, reports that foul talk and sexy chat rooms dominate [this] virtual world, giving it one star on five and don't recommend it for kids of any age [1].

--SyntaxTerror (talk) 13:29, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i did the change, before i couldn't edit the main article --SyntaxTerror (talk) 15:00, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blanked section on the raids

[edit]

I'm interested in discussing this edit. The editor blanked a section covering historical internet raids of Habbo using this page's FAQ (containing the line: "Through general consensus, the raids should not be included because there are no verifiable citations.") as justification. The problem as I see it is that the blanked section did have verifiable RSes attached so there would seem to be two options here:

 • 1 - Restore the raids subsection and alter the FAQ by deleting the ban on mention of the raids
 • 2 - Alter the FAQ's reasoning for a new consensus that the raids shouldn't be mentioned for some other reason (e.g.

-Thibbs (talk) 19:15, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK I've restored the sourced section and adjusted the FAQ for now since the previous rationale leading to consensus was no longer valid. If a new consensus is formed to suggesting that the raids should not be mentioned for some other reason then that's fine and we can always restore the edits and update the FAQ again if needed. -Thibbs (talk) 14:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that if the raids are covered in reliable sources in a way that shows they are an important part of Habbo history, then sure. Rules made many years ago hardly apply to the present state of the article. Blake (Talk·Edits) 19:43, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No comment about the fact that this will happen almost anywhere on the internet and that the lack of knowledge about the internet from Channel4 that led to their disruptive and damaging report? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Luggruff (talkcontribs) 21:25, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Habbo Hotel Retros

[edit]

I think there should be a section about Habbo Hotel emulators, since it's been a great big deal in the community lately. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Basil90 (talkcontribs) 13:11, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: Habbo has several websites so the list provides the reader to view all the url's. I have changed the text in the infobox (sidebar) to better reflect this. Dom497 (talk) 20:05, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Scandinavian websites are down pr. 29. april 2015

[edit]

As you can see in the header, the Scandinavian(Danish, Norwegian and Swedish) websites is out of service. They're not being operated now, so a idea could be to edit the list of operated hotels. :) Pyrros (talk) 16:44, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove this sentence from the start of the article: "Habbo is all about having fun with friends in a safe and exciting environment."

It's purely promotional; the reference it uses is the website of the company itself. 88.104.18.121 (talk) 15:12, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"As of"

[edit]

Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't the term 'as of' mean the information was taken at the specified time? Meaning the phrase "As of August 2012, over 273 million avatars have been registered" means there were 273 million avatars in August 2012? Seeing it used this way made me unsure of my own understanding, so I wanted to double check. HerrWaus (talk) 22:59, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
