Wufang Shangdi → Five manifestations of Shangdi – Few people will understand the word “Wufang” and how it includes five. Five is conceptually important for this article and should be present and translated in the title Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 11:26, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
- Strong oppose: Chinese graphemes are polysemantic — i.e. they don't have one translation only —, and therefore the title should remain in pinyin. N.b. The article was already hastily moved by the user Immanuelle, and I asked for a restoration of the pinyin title at WP:RMT a few hours ago. Moreover, Immanuelle, you have already been advised multiple times to refrain from this type of editing and hasty translations. Please stop! Pinging Eirikr and Ovinus.--Æo (talk) 11:55, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Æo is there any kind of content which is lost by having Five in the title vs Wu? I'd say without any direct evidence of necessarily preserved puns or similar, there's no reason to keep the word Wu in it, and this just makes the article more confusing for people unfamiliar with Chinese. Hakkō ichiu might be a similar situation, but I'd argue the difference is that nobody would be looking for something like "eight cords" to find that article, whereas for this one people will be looking for five deities or five manifestations.
- Wufang has significance, but something like five positions of shangdi or gods of the five positions would probably be more informative. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 13:18, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Immanuelle: A quick Google search reveals that "Five manifestations of Shangdi", after deliberately excluding Wikipedia and Wiktionary from the results, gets all of 1 (one) hit.
- Meanwhile, a search for "Wufang Shangdi" (with similar exclusions) yields 2,850 hits.
- Wikipedia article titles should generally use the terminology most common for that subject matter. I must therefore record my vote here as:
- Strong oppose.
- And I agree with @Æo: your reliance on machine translation, your ignorance of the source languages and subject matters you target, and your frequent and confusing moves, mergers, and redirections are all highly disruptive and largely unhelpful. I am very concerned that you are spending an enormous amount of time and effort on activities that ultimately make Wikipedia less correct, less useful, and harder to use.
- Please change your approach. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 22:18, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Eirikr I've been changing my approach. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 09:52, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose New title is not helpful. Most Chinese terms have at least twenty different possible translations so picking one is not helpful. Mucube (talk • contribs) 19:22, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
