and the first one in (checks notes) THIRTEEN years! When I first joined this WikiProject back in December last year, I was slightly tempted to mark it as inactive, as activity had extremely slowed and there had been no new participants in 3 years. But I have decided to revive this project, as Worcestershire means a lot to me and I know it does for so many others. But as many participants of this project have disappeared completely off Wikipedia, this project is now in dire need of attention and it would be helpful if a group of editors could join me and continue to maintain it.<br>

Hi there, just a heads up. Transdev have not released any formal confirmation in relation to the CEO position of Transdev Blazefield. Former CEO Alex Hornby silently left the company a couple of months ago when Henri Rohard was appointed temporarily. Companies house have not yet processed Alex's withdrawal however he is now the MD at another company. Henri's position has been confirmed by staff of the company. Morning Keith, I've just been deep in the bones of the ALS article (just back from a conference) and I'm afraid I clumsily couldn't correctly merge your date cite edits. Thanks for those.

I am seeing these come up as a recurrent issue - I am using the visual editor "cite" tool and dropping in DOIs whenever possible, is there a problem with the date import feature on that? Sometimes it looks like it's trying to bring in dd/mm/yyyy but sometimes in the past I've just manually set it to Year only. Also I know there are lots of editors out there with tools and bots who are better at this sort of thing than me so I generally just focus on content and know other people will do a better job of tidying than I! Anyway hopefully whatever I just over-rode is easy to re-do, I just didn't want to lose some nuanced stuff I've been pulling out of a recent review, as some of the genetics information was wrong previously =(

  • Due to security issues with the Graph extension, graphs have been disabled in all Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia Foundation teams are working to respond to these vulnerabilities. [13]
  • For a few days, it was not possible to save some kinds of edits on the mobile version of a wiki. This has been fixed. [14][15][16]

Welcome to the third WikiProject Worcestershire newsletter

and the first one in (checks notes) THIRTEEN years! When I first joined this WikiProject back in December last year, I was slightly tempted to mark it as inactive, as activity had extremely slowed and there had been no new participants in 3 years. But I have decided to revive this project, as Worcestershire means a lot to me and I know it does for so many others. But as many participants of this project have disappeared completely off Wikipedia, this project is now in dire need of attention and it would be helpful if a group of editors could join me and continue to maintain it.
Here goes for the third EXTREMELY irregular news bulletin...

What's happened since last time

Evolution of Worcestershire county boundaries since 1844 was promoted to Good article on 3 September 2014. Largely the work of Bellow558, a Worcestershire Project member, the article was reviewed by Mike Christie.

Hanley Castle High School was was promoted to Good article on 30 August 2012. There are 78 good articles for educational institution of all kinds of which there are 4 GA for secondary schools in the UK. Hanley High School is the first state school in the UK to become GA.

Evesham was nominated on 2 December 2010 as a Good Article Candidate. The nomination unfortunately failed due to unforeseen unavailability of the editors working on the article. It only requires minor attention to be renominated.

Worcester Castle was awarded Good Article status on 27 October 2011. Largely the work of User:Hchc2009 , the article was reviewed and promoted by User:Malleus Fatuorum.

The photo by David Iliff of the medieval cloisters in Worcester Cathedral (pictured above) appeared as picture of the day on 5 October 2016.

Urse d'Abetot was awarded Featured Article status on 13 October 2009. Promoted by Karanacs, the article was 96.4% the work of Ealdgyth. It was finally featured on the main page on 14 April 2018.

The Battle of Powick Bridge was awarded Featured Article status in 2020 and appeared on the Main Page on 12 February 2023.

  • Population
    Now that the 2021 census details have been released, most settlement articles need updating. This website: https://www.citypopulation.de/ can be helpful, although you should note this does not collect data from hamlets or small villages.
  • Monitor
    The watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
  • Infoboxes
    Some of our articles need their infoboxes completing.
  • References
    Please remember that the list of stubs needing expansion is always in need of attention. Please take a look and see if you can help. One small edit, such as adding a reference section and reference, to an article each session would make a big difference. If you are uploadiing an image, be sure it has a correct FUR, and that you have preferably already created a link on the page where you want it to be.

I am currently planning on reforming the Evesham article to get it up to scratch for another GA nomination. If other editors are interested in helping me then please do, especially if you live in Evesham yourself, as the main photo is from 2008 and is out-of-date as there is a new statue in front of the building.

I intend to write a brand-new newsletter once every two months, though I would like other editors to help me in completing it in case of my unavailability.

  • Last week, Community Tech released the first update for providing better diffs, the #1 request in the 2022 Community Wishlist Survey. This update adds legends and tooltips to inline diffs so that users unfamiliar with the blue and yellow highlights can better understand the type of edits made.
  • When you close an image that is displayed via MediaViewer, it will now return to the wiki page instead of going back in your browser history. This feature request was voted #65 in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey. [23]
  • The SyntaxHighlight extension now supports wikitext as a selected language. Old alternatives that were used to highlight wikitext, such as html5, moin, and html+handlebars, can now be replaced. [24]
  • Preloading text to new pages/sections now supports preloading from localized MediaWiki interface messages. Here is an example at the Czech Wikipedia that uses preload=MediaWiki:July. [25]

Problems

  • Graph Extension update: Foundation developers have completed upgrading the visualization software to Vega5. Existing community graphs based on Vega2 are no longer compatible. Communities need to update local graphs and templates, and shared lua modules like de:Modul:Graph. The Vega Porting guide provides the most comprehensive detail on migration from Vega2 and here is an example migration. Vega5 has currently just been enabled on mediawiki.org to provide a test environment for communities. [26]

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 May. It will be on all wikis from 11 May (calendar).
  • Until now, all new OAuth apps went through manual review. Starting this week, apps using identification-only or basic authorizations will not require review. [27]

Citation for Interim CEO

Hi there, just a heads up. Transdev have not released any formal confirmation in relation to the CEO position of Transdev Blazefield. Former CEO Alex Hornby silently left the company a couple of months ago when Henri Rohard was appointed temporarily. Companies house have not yet processed Alex's withdrawal however he is now the MD at another company. Henri's position has been confirmed by staff of the company.   • Citations that are automatically generated based on ISBN are currently broken. This affects citations made with the VisualEditor Automatic tab, and the use of the citoid API in gadgets and user scripts. Work is ongoing to restore this feature. [32]

Whoops! Sorry about edit conflict

Morning Keith, I've just been deep in the bones of the ALS article (just back from a conference) and I'm afraid I clumsily couldn't correctly merge your date cite edits. Thanks for those.

I am seeing these come up as a recurrent issue - I am using the visual editor "cite" tool and dropping in DOIs whenever possible, is there a problem with the date import feature on that? Sometimes it looks like it's trying to bring in dd/mm/yyyy but sometimes in the past I've just manually set it to Year only. Also I know there are lots of editors out there with tools and bots who are better at this sort of thing than me so I generally just focus on content and know other people will do a better job of tidying than I! Anyway hopefully whatever I just over-rode is easy to re-do, I just didn't want to lose some nuanced stuff I've been pulling out of a recent review, as some of the genetics information was wrong previously =(

@PaulWicks: Hello, thanks for letting me know, I have reapplied my changes to the article. I do not use VE as there are all sorts of problems that users introduce that need tidying up. Similarly using the cite tools give errors that people just accept without fixing them. Keith D (talk) 09:02, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
