Victorian Localities & Suburbs Hi, first of all, I want to thank you for your work of researching the Victorian localities and fixing the templates, I had started working on this but life kinda gets in the way haha, but yes I understand how tedious this is. I was just wondering what is defined as "Town", "Locality", "City", "Suburb", etc. as I don't really understand the source. I talked it over with User:An aggressive and ambiguous amphibian's absurd and adaptable anagram alarmed all ants and neither of us could understand. I'll discus, Bendigo as this is were both of us are from. For example on this template Kangaroo Flat is listed as a "City", when it's really just another suburb of Bendigo, every other suburb and locality is just a locality and then a couple of the most random localities are just listed as localities. I really do think there is something wrong with the source you listed, especially since it's inconsistent with the opening lines of each of the wikipedia entries linked. I know I must be missing something, I'm just not entirely sure what it is. Thanks in advance Viatori (talk) 08:53, 10 February 2023 (UTC) I wasn't able to find a proper definition for "City", "Town", "Suburb", or "Locality". Technically they were all defined as localities. Calling a place a town sounded a lot better than calling it a locality. What makes a city different from a town, possibly it's size. As for suburbs, they are a bit confusing as to which major town it belongs to (especially in the metropolitan area). I defined them as: City - population over 10000 Town - population between 10000 & 200 Locality - population under 200 (there are a few "ghost towns" with little or no population) I'm happy to redefine the population values if needed. As I did this using an excel table with formulas, I will easily be able to recreate all relevant page. The better thing to do with things like company websites and brochures, etc, is just to ignore the author and website fields and use |publisher=Public Transport Victoria instead. They're only really relevant if you're citing something like a special website operated by a publisher that wouldn't otherwise be apparent, for example: |website=Heritage Discoveries |publisher=Department of Lands and Natural Resources, NSW Government, or where a body corporate is publishing something authored by a different body corporate, for example: |author=Lotsabucks Solicitors LLC |publisher=Metro Trains Melbourne. Don't remove archived versions of websites from citations unless the archive doesn't work. It's okay to have an archive even when the original website is working, because the archive is a snapshot of how the information appeared when it was used as a source for the article, and is thus a precaution against the original website changing or ceasing to work. The |url-status= parameter controls how the link appears to a reader; where it's set to |url-status=live the reader will be shown the live version of the website by default. If it's set to |url-status=dead, or removed entirely, the archive version will be the primary link. Thanks. "Cite" -> "Templates" -> "Cite web" -> then past the web address into the URL field and click search, Wikipedia does all the other bits like |first=Public Transport and |last=Victoria I noticed the line appeared different to how it was on Cranbourne railway line so I copied it and changed "Cranbourne" to "Pakenham" as I had accessed both of them at the same time. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 12:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC) Okay, that autofill is broken. I've gone ahead and upload the Melbourne ferry logo symbol to Wikipedia as it hadn't been already and fits the criteria to be uploaded. I'm awaiting the graphics lab to vectorise it and increase the size of it. Whilst we wait, are you able to go and update the ferry symbols on the Stony Point line article track and route diagrams to this symbol? Thanks for your continued effort. After doing a bit of research, there are some examples of old lines that have metro services to a certain extent. I think it would be best for a new page to be created called 'Whittlesea railway line' with the information from the Mernda line about to line to whittlesea moved to this new article. Otherwise the Mernda article would have too much information making the article confusing. Let me know you thoughts @ThylacineHunter. Unlike for example the Gippsland which was a continuation of the Pakenham. From when the Warburton line opened until it closed it was operated as a branch service. From when the Healesville line opened until August 1964 it was an extension of the Lilydale line, but from then until it closed it was operated as a branch service. After electrification in November 1925, they were operated by E trains. Two electric motor carriages from Melbourne to Lilydale hauling a number country carriages, at Lilydale, the country carriages were detached, and hauled by a steam locomotive to their destination of Healesville or Warburton. Also in future years the Frankston line will be extended further onto the stony point line to Baxter. Let me know your thoughts/reasoning. Please note that 2.6' = 31.2" or 792.5 mm, which approximately corresponds to the incorrect 791 mm (2 ft 7+5⁄32 in) gauge. It is not clear what you are intending to do with regions, but really, it is very easy to have too much to deal with. Take care, and remember that the 'field' of what is 'missing' - one typical problem for all of the separate state projects - is the separation of items between the scope of the city (Melbourne) and the state (Victoria)... that is always fraught with scope determinations...
