Samantaray/Samantara (Odia: ସାମନ୍ତରାୟ/ସାନ୍ତରା) is a title used by people belonging to the Kshatriya caste[1][2] and Khandayat caste in Odisha.[3] It is also used by Utkala Brahmins and in some parts of odisha by karan caste.It is one of the most powerful caste among the Kshatriyas and Khandayats.Other similar surnames equivakent to samantaray are Sundar ray, Baleyarsingh,Balabantaray,Singh deo, Bhanja,Shatrusal,debray.
