In reading the article on Kitty Kallen, I noticed a potential error in timing. The article notes that she went to the Harry James Orchestra in late 1943, after Bob Eberly went into the service. However, her two hits with Jimmy Dorsey's Orchestra were in 1944, and her Harry James' Orchestra hits were not until 1945. It would seem that her hook-up with the James Orchestra was not until 1945, or at least late 1944, rather than the stated late 1943? Perhaps this could be explained by the musicians' strike? Perhaps, the Jimmy Dorsey songs had been recorded the previous year (1943), and not released until 1944, and Harry James could not record and new songs in 1944? |

It appears that Bob Eberle had changed his name to Bob Eberly, after many mispronuncements of his name on air, at the beginning of his radio career. I believe there should be consistency in the spelling of his name. Under Kitty's hits, his name was spelled Eberle, rather than Eberly (as in the body of the text regarding Kitty Kallen). I edited his name under her hits on 5/5/07. |
