In season 5 Eric proposed to Donna at the Point Place water tower. They were able to keep their engagement secret for awhile until the episode titled "The Crunge" when he accidentally slipped the information to the gang. In the episode titled "Over the Hills and Far Away" Eric during an argument with Red revealed his engagement with Donna. Red tried to break their engagement by firing Eric from Price Mart and pressuring the couple to marry until sister Laurie suggested to Eric and Donna that they just move out of Point Place. They had plans to move to Madison, Wisconsin after graduating high school but during the episode "Celebration Day" Red had a heart attack so in the beginning of season 6 Eric had to stay home to help the family with their finances due to Red missing work and to help Kitty cut back her hours at the hospital. |

Towards the end of season 6 as Eric and Donna's wedding date drew near, Eric bailed and didn't show up for the rehearsal dinner. It was never explained where he went or why all of a sudden he didn't want to marry Donna. |

In the season seven finale due to ([[Topher Grace]]) not renewing his contract, Eric left Point Place to go to Africa to teach, to earn money to help pay for his college education. |
