Fair use rationale for Image:Kbbl.png
:Image:Kbbl.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. == I have found proof that Springfield's KBBL-TV (Channel 6) is a Fox affiliate ==

I have read things about KBBL-TV/Channel 6 being thought to be a local Fox affiliate and people not 100% sure; but now I have discovered evidence on a Simpsons episode that KBBL-TV really is a Fox affiliate (in the Simpsons world anyway). The evidence is in the season 6 episode Sideshow Bob Roberts; in the scene with the televised debate hosted by Larry King, he mentions that their being broadcast on Fox, about a minute later Bart & Lisa look at the TV screen with electronic flames surrounding Mayor Quimby, a disclaimer says "Flames added electronically by Channel 6"; and there's the proof. == May 2009 ==

I read the discussion from 2007 in regards to whether this article should remain, and I know that some editors think this kind of page shouldn't be on wikipedia at all. I personally don't think a page such as this has the same burden of making sure everything has a reference next to it like an article about something in the real world, since the page deals exclusively with media in the universe of the show, but a few more refs would probably help. I also know that organizing it and keeping it from overflowing is challenging. I personally like this article, and think it should remain here, but I got a little dizzy while reading it because of the breakdown. I think a better way to organize this would be something like:

*section 1, television
**1a, television stations
**1b, television programs
**1c, television networks
*section 2, radio
**2a, radio stations
**2b, radio programs
*section 3, newspapers
*section 4, real-life comparisons

Any thoughts or comments are welcome. Zephyrnthesky (talk) 21:06, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Major rewrite
I just made a made major rewrite of the article so that it holds more out-of-universe information. My plan is to do a lot more work on it, but I have to respond to my GA review of History of The Simpsons right now. It will take some time before I get back to this article. --Maitch (talk) 09:24, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Notes to my self:
* Find other sources than the episode itself.
* Find better sourcing for Radioactive Man.
* <s>Check source for My Sister, My Sitter.</s>
* <s>Add stuff from alt.tv.simpsons.</s>
* Add Bumblebee Man, <s>Channel 6, Scott Christian, Arnie Pie</s>, <s>KBBL</s>, <s>Springfield Shopper</s>, Bill and Marty, <s>Birch Barlow</s>
* Expand on <s>Journalism</s>, Movies, <s>Internet</s>
* Add season and year after each mentioned episode, e.g. "My Sister, My Sitter" (season 8, 1997)

Fox non-interference
<blockquote>When The Simpsons were developed for the half-hour show, [[James L. This contract made it possible to write several jokes about both the Fox network and Fox news. The fact that most networks use network notes to tinker with television shows is often parodied on The Simpsons. Creator Matt Groening has commented that this contract puts The Simpsons in a unique position, while others have commented that it defies industry practices.
</blockquote>

The bolded sentence doesn't make much sense. Of COURSE it defies industry practice if The Simpsons is in a unique position... how could something unique not defy common practice? The way it's worded makes it seem that these unnamed "others" are disagreeing with Groening. Anyone have a suggested fix? Should we just remove everything after the comma as unsourced? --Dante Alighieri | Talk 19:56, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

:"While" does not always imply a contrastive sense. I could also write "The days were hot while we were on vacation". However, it may confuse people, so I have changed it to "and". Also, the lead should not be sourced. Those comments in the lead are already sourced in the "Network notes" section. --Maitch (talk) 09:23, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

::Your point is taken, but there are two different usages of "while" in the two cases above. Notably, the presence of the comma in the article sentence means that it cannot be taken in the fashion that you reference (in the "vacation" sentence"). Regardless, the issue is now moot. Thanks for the fix. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 02:09, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Merge

[edit]

I created this article in order to cut down on the vast number of articles on the simpsons, following the deletion of a few. Hopefully, this page can be expanded to include all media mentioned in the show - even those that wouldnt be worthy of their own page - both fictional and non fictional. Homer v. Lisa and the 8th Commandment

[edit]

Just wondering if it would be worth adding the cable references from the episode where the Simpsons steal cable, particularly the "Hear Me Roar" network for women (parody of Lifetime). There have been several cable spoofs on the Simpsons -- in that episode alone they have the Arts & Crafts channel mention, Poopsie the Clown being sold on some shopping channel, top hat theater (Playboy parody) and televised snail racing.

Also, that consumer watchdog show hosted by Kent Brockman is worth a mention?

Since I'm new to wikipedia, I guess I can just write information based on the episodes themselves and site the episode? Elocina 13:44, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This gets a bit messy

[edit]

Maybe it's better to make this a page about the TV and Radiostations and Papers only, and make an other page with TV Programs. This page is now not complete at all, there are quite a lot and that would mess things up here. I started the List of television programs in The Simpsons. What do you think? --Leoremy 15:31, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fox non-interference

When The Simpsons were developed for the half-hour show, James L. Brooks negotiated an unusual contract, in which the producers prevented the Fox network from interfering with the show. The fact that most networks use network notes to tinker with television shows is often parodied on The Simpsons.
