No mention regarding Neopets breach?
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/ezpvw7/neopets-hack-another-day-another-hack-tens-of-millions-of-neopets-accounts
Sections removed?
https://www.reddit.com/r/neopets/comments/4rs8vd/neopets_data_breach_20mil_accounts/
I haven't been here for awhile, and since my departure, data has been removed. the entire "Environment" section is gone, and hasn't been added to List of Neopian worlds, nor has the mention of Dr. Sloth being highly popular in plots to Neopets plots. There isn't even a specific section about the Battledome (never was really), and it's only mentioned in an off hand fashion. Most importantly, the "List of references in Neopets," a list detailing references in and out of neopets, doesn't exist anymore.

What happened to the data? Will it eventually return? --Joe Somebody 22:50, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

the toolbar's terms and conditions don't completely disclose everything that it does, and yes it hijacks certain search functionality of your browser and changes various settings on your computer. I wouldn't recommend installing it. It has been reported to moniter your interent usage. Very shady

Paint Brush and prices
I have removed the prices, mainly because people cannot agree on the lowest price (i.e. whether or not to include the basic colors, even though the Invisible Paint Brush is the cheapest non-basic color at just over 80,000 neopoints.), as I have seen this changed multiple times. Secondly, the worth of a neopoint is arbitrary. How much is expensive to a newbie? to a well-established player? to a RSer or BDer? to a gamer? And in the preceding section (Shops), "extremely expensive items like Paint Brushes and potions"? Those pale greatly with respect to other items and the price is arbitrarily decided by the seller. <font color="007575">Squids</font>'<font color="black">and</font>'<font color="FF7700">Chips</font> 01:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

:I don't think the price of an item on Neopets is going to be important to readers who want an idea what neopets is all about. Maybe explain what paintbrushes are all about, why they are popular and how they get their certain price, but a list of all of them and their prices doesn't belong on here, but at a fansite i believe. --Joe Somebody 03:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Fansite links gone?
I notices this earlier but didn't make mention of it, but what happened to the fansite links? Were they taken out in a previous edit, similar to the environment section (recently put back)? Or were people so fed up with those wanting to have their fansite featured, they were just...taken down? Hoping someone can explain. --Joe Somebody 03:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Standardization.
This article needs some serious cleanup in areas like capitalization.

I did some of the work by copying and pasting the entire article into notepad, and then using the "find" tool. I searched for "neomail", and I found that half the time, "neomail" wasn't capitalized the way it should be. I overwrote words like "premium", "petpet", "battledome" and "neopet", all of which somebody decided to write without capitalizing at least once. Please keep an eye on this.

Correct image proportions
The homepage image in the infobox is stretched and terrible-looking - I thought shrinking the width would fix the problem, but it only shrinks the (stretched) image. How can we correct this so the image is displayed properly? PaladinWhite 23:25, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

New Neopets Layout\Sidebar
There should be an added topic to the article concerning Neopets.com's recent (April 26, 2007) layout change and also the new layout does not have sidebars so the topic about sidebars is completely useless. Also can anyone confirm a rumor that this layout will last 7 days I didn't want to start the topic until I got confermation that the layout is in fact temporary.

rgoodermote 20:45, April 26, 2007 (UTC)

:Sidebars themes still exist. They just aren't at the side anymore; they're at the top and bottom. <font color="007575">Squids</font>'<font color="black">and</font>'<font color="FF7700">Chips</font> 02:37, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I know that I was asking if it should be changed because the old style has been changed and is no longer a sidebar but now a topbar and also has a differant button style. Also I still need a confirmation on that rumor.

The new layout will definitely be staying. There's no way that tnt would go to that much effort for only a week.
I just removed a little bit about the revamp being 'to the dismay' of users... very POV and a lot of users are happy with the change. Icecradle 12:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks I was reading somethings there on the neoboards and several websites stating that it was only 7 days...I was obviously unsure. == Why isn't there any mention of Restocking? ==

I've been an avid player since 2001 (stopped in 03 so I am unfamilar with current trends) and arguably, the biggest rave in Neopets was the restocking. Back then, message boards are flooded with messages about what an amazing haul the player got in one restock.

Restocking is an activity (I'm sure most will know what it is already) where the user camps at one of many adminstrative controlled shops (such as the Magic Bazaar) and wait for fresh items to be displayed and sold. The momentous aspect of buying these items is that the tagged price and the real market price contrasts greatly; thus, buying an item with a high market price and low tagged price will earn the player profit.

For example, a r99 item which costs <20000NP in tagged price can sometimes be worth over 1million NP in the real market.
Dark Battle Duck = 60000NP tag; 5milNP (in 2001-02).
That's roughly 5millionNP in profit.

Restocking is also arguably the most profitable way of playing Neopets. Buying premiums, as I've read, gets a base of 2500NP and 1000NP per month. Statistically, restocking averages from 30000NP to 5,000,000NP depending on the experience and knowledge of the player.

Being such as important aspect of Neopian economy, why is restocking not included in the wikipedia page? I would like to see reports of the current protocols of restocking, and perhaps a political digression of what governs the market prices of the items.

How no one else wondered why other users will purchase the outrageously high priced item in your shop whereas they can compete for it in the shop distribution? Secondly, what are the purposes of requiring the item in the first place besides personal interest? <small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.87.118.201 (talk) 10:16, 29 April 2007 (UTC).</small><!-- HagermanBot Auto-Unsigned -->

:"Buying items at the Neopian shops in order to resell them is called restocking (since it involves waiting until the shop restocks), and can be very profitable for a player with luck and a fast internet connection."

:The only line that mentions restocking, and it needs to be rewritten and sourced. This article is still missing quite a few things such as a more comprehensive breadth of Neopets species and mention of the Battledome and the stockmarket. Everything needs to be verifiable with third party sources. <font color="007575">Squids</font>'<font color="black">and</font>'<font color="FF7700">Chips</font> 15:41, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

How "Family Friendly" is it?
Take a look around Neopets and you'll see bombing games, shooting, battles and even auctions(which I like to call Neobay)! There is probably much more but still! THIS IS BAD!!!! <small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.70.53.173 (talk) 14:19, 2 May 2007 (UTC).</small><!-- HagermanBot Auto-Unsigned -->

: Erm? Where to start? Firstly Neopets is a game for people of all ages... not just small children, so there's no problem with things like auctions, which are possibly more adult orientated. About bombing games etc... I dunno about you, but when I was a kid I used to play with toy soldiers, toy guns... whack-a-mole, read books about epic battles and heroes fighting 'baddies'... and I like to think that I turned out to be a sane, non-violent person. I really, really, really don't understand modern society's OBSESSION with bubble-wrapping kids and keeping them away from anything deemed even slightly dangerous. Playing a bombing game on Neopets is not going to encourage kids to bomb or anything, what's the problem?
But this point is just slating Neopets and doesn't really have anything to do with the wiki article, does it? Icecradle 22:51, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree, feel free to go on Neopets and complain about it, but don't post it on Wikipedia. What can Wikipedia do about it? (though it would be, like, Battle of the Mega-Companies!) Crowstar 22:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

:Neopets is already WAY too "family-friendly" without people like you making it worse. Go back to 1653.

Split Neopets article
I have proposed that some sections of the Neopets article be split into a new article entitled Neopets, Inc. As I was editing this, I realized that the word Neopets stood for four different things in different instances (maybe not exactly four, but three for sure):
#Neopets.com
#Neopets, Inc.
#Neopets (the creatures)
#the Neopets franchise (which could just as well be part of Neopets, Inc.)
Parts of the Company information and Merchandise sections are about Neopets, Inc. and the Neopets franchise, which could be split into the new article (or maybe two new articles and a new disambig page). Then this article can focus on Neopets.com, "the Neopets game." If so, Neopets should be italicized when it is referring the the game of Neopets, so that it can be differentiated from the creatures. <font color="007575">Squids</font>'<font color="black">and</font>'<font color="FF7700">Chips</font> 00:04, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

:Someone already split off the "Company information" section to Neopets, Inc. I split the 'Merchandise" section into that article as well. I also restructured the article, mostly to split off subsections from the indiscriminate "Games" section which sseemed to include everything that didn't seem to belong somewhere else. Another problem with the NC Mall that users aren't very happy with is that you must buy the items with actual dollars, and the items disappear within 90 days. Then you must purchase more clothes. Currently NCM is in Beta Testing.

Can someone clean that paragraph up. What was the promise Neopets kept? If the promise is to keep Neopets free to play then why restate it in the next sentence? Shouldn't this article become strictly informal and then post the controversy in the Neopets Controversy Page? Someone needs to clean up this article by filling in unanswered questions and maintaining professionalism and neutrality.

:::However, The Neopets Team has kept their promise... sorta. Generally speaking, Neopets is still free. There is no fee to sign up to Neopets, is there? No. Purchasing from the NCM is in no way required in order to attain an advantage over other Neopians (excluding the Winged Talisman, but that was removed a while back). If one were to complain about the NCM, why not complain about Premium also. TNT has kep their promise, as Neopets is still free for guests to enter. == Maximum Number of Neopets ==

The first sentence of this article reads:

Neopets is an online virtual pet site where users can create and take care of up to four virtual pets, buying them food, toys and other accessories using a virtual currency called Neopoints (NP).

However, due to a small glitch in Neopets history, many accounts own five Neopets. One example of someone using this glitch to obtain a fifth Neopet is Borovan. Do you think that the article should read that the maximum number of Neopets as four or five? TheInfinityZero 16:59, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

::Excuse me if I'm confused, but I don't know a way to find a more reliable source about Neopets.com than Neopets.com. If Adam Powell, the original creator of Neopets Inc., has five Neopets; I must believe that the maximum number of Neopets is, indeed, five.

:::WP:V: Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Adam has five neopets because he can. He created neopets. He's just flaunting it. Its just a bit of fun.
And I feel it has no importance with regards to the number of neopets someone can have, because everyone else can only have four. There are many activities Neopets players can do to advance towards their goals. They can train their pets to become fighters and participate in the wars that occur (usually when new worlds are "discovered"), or fight against the regular Battledome NPCs and other players' pets. Players can become merchants or collectors of rare and expensive items. Players can also submit their artwork or writing, and can be rewarded for their creativity and skill with a trophy placed on their user lookup and Neopoints.

The section was first started as the informational page but expanded into a complaint board.
But included in that was reasonable and backed up and verifed information on how Neopets
is not all how it seems on the surface.

When a site tells people it has never been hacked or you are the cause of your security issues, even with the evident proof available, it's paramount to not exclude that information.

I personaly added the info on the clone of items (dupe days) and the loss of accounts because of holes in security. I also added that due to the hole it caused quite a number of accounts and my guess childrens personal information and linked email accounts to be compromised. Can we say comply with COPPA.?

I'm having a problem getting the Neopet species 'Bori' onto the disambiguation page Bori

[edit]

Would somebody like to help?

One of our editors uses the word 'Bori' as part of his user name.
His 'Bori' is one of 55 species of Neopets.
One problem is: 'Bori' are not mentioned in the article Neopet.
We have a disambiguation page Bori, but these Neopets 'Bori' are not listed on this disambiguation page.
If you read Talk:Bori you will understand.
