#REDIRECT Mil Mi-28#Mi-40
The Mil Mi-40 is a projected utility version of the Mi-28, first initiated in 1983, but announced in 1992 and shown at the Moscow Airshow in 1993. It was planned to use two 1,863kW Kilmov TV-117VMA turboshaft engines, four-bladed main rotor, four-bladed Delta H tail rotor (both main and tail rotors used on Mi-28), and retractable tricycle-type landing gear. It was also planned to use a mast-mounted device, similar to that seen on the Mi-28N, undernose 23mm gun turret, rear defensive 12.3mm gun on a flexible turret, and a maximum of eight air-to-air or air-to-surface missiles on outboard pylons. The Mi-40 lost out to the Mi-42 project, which featured the NOTAR concept.
