He's probably referring specifically to Basket Case. While one could see some slight similarities in the melody and chord progressions in the choruses of both songs (Superman's "and I'm so confused/about what to do..." and Basket Case's "it all keeps adding up/I think I'm cracking up"), there aren't nearly enough to make a claim that Superman "lifts pretty liberally" from Basket Case. |

I know these comments were a long time ago now, but the answer to this thing is Pachelbel's Canon in D - check out Rob Paravonian's video on YouTube, it's called "Pachelbel Rant". It's a common chord progression lifted from a classical piece. As Paravonian sang during the skit (to the part where "it all keeps adding up" is sang during Basketcase itself): "Punk music is a joke, it's really just baroque!" Animal Rights Songs?
[edit]- I believe that on every album Goldfinger have an animal rights song. What are their Animal Rightsd songs? The ones I know of are:
- "What Gives You The Right"
- "Open Your Eyes"
- "Free Kevin Kjonaas"
- "FTN" (Fuck Ted Nugent)
- "Behind The Mask"
- "Answers"
- "Get up"
77.96.20.58 (talk) 09:15, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
iron fist isn't animal rights, its about unfair justice (now im watching as my house is raided, like im some sort of terrorist) and been innocent to their claims (i always knew that they would find nothing, no weapons just a mind of my own)
perhaps answers is animal rights? its something that makes John angry and you can really feel his anger in the chorus, some people think they have a real good answer for killing animals, hes saying hes giving them and answer of his own. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.38.65.47 (talk) 20:54, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Iron Fist is indeed about unfair justice, after John's house was raided and a fairly lengthy investigation ensured, accusing him of breaking several (US) federal laws in relation to his animal rights activities and associates. Either the chargers were dropped before it went to court, or he was never charged - can't remember. So I suppose the animal rights theme is there, but it's not the primary motivation for the song.
Source? John explained this to the crowd before he played this song live in Australia several years ago - I'm sure he would have done the same for all gigs on that tour. Whippen (talk) 14:34, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah... really. Where are you getting that? Reel Big Fish wrote the song for them, or something along those lines. If you know Reel Big Fish, it seems so obvious, but you'd never figure it out on your own. --128.146.68.89 17:13, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Band naming
[edit]While it seems pretty obvious what they named themselves after, I read one interview where the claimed they just thought up the name. --128.146.68.89 02:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, while of course the name Goldfinger is known for the James Bond book and film, I don't think they'd mean the name to be like that, though. Goldfinger can mean other things, and maybe it has to do with Paulson's guitarpicking, which I'm sure we can all agree is stellar. When they say they just thought it up, they don't mean they made up the term, they just mean they thought it would be a good name.
Rather than saying only that the band is not named after the movie and then dropping the subject, shouldn't the article state where the name did come from? A reference would be good too. --65.147.3.73 05:33, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I have spoken to the band personally at some local shows. Darrin, the drummer, has told me the same thing, that the name "Goldfinger" was just something they thought of. Seems pretty official.
not at all if they say they thought it up they are lying. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrONIb9gQ-k shows the band Fishbone saying "Play it goldfinger" in a strange voice and they say "play it goldfinger" then enter into a solo. also near the end of the song Carlita on the hang-ups CD in the same exact voice and then continue onto a solo. also Kendall in fishbone was nicknamed goldfinger. so if they are saying they made it up thats BS --69.118.112.87 04:53, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
99 Red Balloons
[edit]The lyrics in their (Goldfingers) version of 99 Luftballons is not really a translation of the original text. For example there is nothing about a toy shop in the original German text. I still like both texts though :-)
In the English version by Nena, they sing about a toy shop. Oreo
They cover the English version with one verse from the German version, both by Nena. Themaninthesuitcase (talk) 20:39, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
"Horror of factory farms"
[edit]I removed the following external link:
http:// www.petatv.com/tvpopup/getvideo.asp?video=free_me
The title was "Music video Free Me - An acoustic walk through the horror of factory farms". I'd be glad to put the external link back if someone will write something else in the article about this particular song & music video, and come up with a less biased description than "the horror of factory farms". 76.211.22.32 05:44, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Ummm...Pop Punk?
[edit]By my accounts, Goldfinger is a punk rock band, not a pop punk band, as it says in the article. They meet the criteria of angry, shouted lyrics in songs like "Open Your Eyes". Just wanted some feedback. -- Aaron —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.184.176.7 (talk) 16:30, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Well on a few there are like FTN, open your eyes, Dad, woodchuck, spokesman and happy, but thats just a few, The most recent release, disconnection notice has none of that on it.
Stomping ground is the most punk album they have. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.38.65.47 (talk) 15:55, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Foot in mouth
[edit]The title is Foot In Mouth not Foot in mouth : live. I have also checked the CD and it has no mention of MOJO Records on it anywhere. The band recorded this themselves on a UK tour in 2001 and it was only ever sold from the bands web page and at shows. Themaninthesuitcase (talk) 20:49, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
