RE: reverted edit to Smashing Pumpkins page (Dec 2008) - I agree the edit was unconstructive and should be deleted, but the edit certainly didn't come from me or my computer. I've never edited any Wiki page, this edit being my first so I hope I'm doing it properly! Regards, ram1967@bigpond.net.au

Francesco Barbaro
Hi, I got your message about the F. Barbaro page. I think some where down the line there was a mixup with reverting since the page I brought up has a very good sourcing for francesco Barbaro that is cited. It is the link of Bucher that you can see for yourself.. I think the problem in the past may have been that people did not open the BARBARO.htm link once you get to the Bucher link...but if you do, you will see that all info is coming from Bucher and cited as such... it is a good source to use and with much more excellent facts about his writings and associations. Hi, im GenericBobJoe, you sent my IP address a warning for vandalism, the page that I apparently vandalized said the vandalism was in 2007. I got the computer with this IP last year, and I don't think teaneck is gay. I seriously do not know why this is happening. You should TempBan me from editing for now, maybe one day, and i'll see what's wrong with this computer. If this keeps happening,or if you might know anything about this, please reply. -GenericBobJoe

Jimmy Hoffa
Can you help me? The Jimmy Hoffa page has been edited by Stephen J. Anderson. The information I put on there is for public use. Charles Brandt and I have been working together on this case for two years. Stephen seems to be taking that personally by saying things like "Another investigation that went nowhere." I would like to have this information I provided for the public left alone.--Spectre7277 (talk) 04:10, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

You deleted my external link, and its just a blog that offers sales techniques. There is another blog already listed there that offers the same thing. == What's your problem? ==

What kind of external links are allowed then? Now you go and delete ALL of them? What the hell is the point of having a section for external links? I have a blog for a very specific group of people that I'm sure would be much appreciative of being able to find the information.

From Wikipedia guidelines...
There are several things that should be considered when adding an external link.

* Is the site content accessible to the reader?
* Is the site content proper in the context of the article (useful, tasteful, informative, factual, etc.)?
* Is the link functional and likely to remain functional?

The blog I linked is a "Yes" to all of these. What's the issue?

Frank Prewitt page needs deletion
It appears the author of the "Frank Prewitt" page is no other than J. Frank Prewitt himself. He is an individual with at least a 15-year history of questionable behavior who has admitted on the stand during a federal trial of one of the criminal defendants that he committed illegal acts. He claims that he did not become a government informant under pressure, but instead acted as a good citizen. Little exists to substantiate that claim. In an extraordinary act of self-justification, he authored a poorly written book to exonerate himself and recast himself as the hero of the whole affair. As part of his page, the book jacket, both cover and promotional text, are included.

I have made attempts to correct his page to reflect reality, but he has it on a watch list and amends each correction to again promote himself.

His page exemplifies what is prohibited by Wikipedia, self-promotion, conflict of interest and advertising. After my attempts to delete it, in whole or part, you have reverted my deletions without reading or taking a moment to understand my reasons for having done so. I see nothing to be proud of. You are not preventing vandalism, but in fact are assisting anti-Wikipedia content policies. There is no reason that Wikipedia should be supporting this individual's web page. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Activist (talk • contribs) 15:29, 21 December 2008 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Request for speedy deletion
Despite your rationalization for keeping the Frank Prewitt page, you have ignored Wikipedia criteria. Notability alone does not merit inclusion. The page is question is wholly self-promotion, represents the clearest expression of conflict of interest, and contains intact advertising for the author's book with a picture of the cover and entire blurb from the back of the book. All three of these are valid reasons for speedy deletion of the entire page. It can't be "fixed." Its continued inclusion would be tantamount to allowing OJ Simpson to author a page based on his "If I Did It" book, complete with advertising materials, as your argument of "notability" could be easily made. This is not a hypothetical premise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_I_Did_It

I did consider the accepted reasons for speedy deletion before I deleted it. Here's one: "Blatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote some entity and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic. Note that simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion."

I would appreciate it if you would set aside your investment in your reversion and instead carefully consider the page in question objectively. If you set about the task of fixing it, how would you begin? What parts of it would be worthy of preservation? Why should anyone be allow to invent and perpetuate a myth about him or herself, and to control the content almost free of criticism? He is not doing this just on Wikipedia, but has done the same thing with review of his pathetic book (I've read it, of course) on Amazon, forcing Amazon to remove legitimate criticism. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Activist (talk • contribs) 19:30, 21 December 2008 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

:A birth certificate presents problems in terms of being sure that there is a direct connection to Robert Chandler, but the bigger problem is that there is no way for any other editor (including me) to verify its accuracy. I've seen other articles that list details, but none that provide any other details regarding grandchildren. I am trying to understand and address this issue, but the issue of providing reliably sourced material is a fundamental Wikipedia principle. == Advertisements for himself... ==

Infringement on Norman Mailer's title seems appropriate here.

So the question I put was, should the Frank Prewitt page be subject to speedy deletion, or is there some exception to Wikipedia guidelines that lets this poster not only author his own page, to ignore Wikipedia guidelines, to promote himself, to not only "exonerate" himself on the webpage for his past illegal behavior, but allows him to extensively advertise his self-published, third-rate book written with the same self-aggrandizing aims?

I'm not sure why I can't get a straight answer here. Is there some appeal process for contesting unwarranted reverts of legitimate deletions? <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.237.144.254 (talk) 22:58, 24 December 2008 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:You can go to WP:BLPN to raise issues with inappropriate biographical content. Remember that notability has nothing to do with being a nice guy; I'm pretty sure that there's an Adolf Hitler article. Frank Prewitt is covered by reliable and verifiable sources. If there are specific issues they should be addressed by making changes that are clearly described and explained; Simply cutting away sourced material will likely be reverted. Alansohn (talk) 23:35, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, another Wiki editor has removed the improper placement of Prewitt's book from his autobiographical page. Thank goodness! My question was whether or not Prewitt should be allowed to author his own page and delete material added by others that is properly sourced but does not feed his ego and fantasy life? My addition to the article is NOT vandalism. I have cited the article that was in the New York Times. == WikiCup 2019 March newsletter ==
:))

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.
Tadija (talk) 16:03, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
FLQ on Quebec lead
*USA L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
The FLQ involved likely less than 100 people in all, maybe less than 20. Putting at that place a false statement about 100,000 terrorists (out of 7 millions Quebecers) is misleading. Anyway Quebecers are used to Quebec-bashing and this paragraph is typical. Those misleading statements attempt to give FLQ more power than it actually had (souverainty gained in popularity because of charism of Rene Levesque, not because of the FLQ). I lived in Quebec all my life since 1956. While some people were killed by either FLQ or RCMP bombs in the 1963-1973 time period, they were minor incidents. The mobster war in the 1990s killed more people and much more persons were involved in the various gangs. As repeated in the discussion area, the FLQ part has nothing to do in that page.
* Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
*Denmark MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
*USA Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
* Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
*Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!
The French also sent many donnes to Canada, many were killed but one man eustaush lambert became a powerful donne that protected the natives and became the first Canadian general.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
The above statement is some noise. Eustache Lambert was born about 1617 and was a merchant. Calling him a general is misleading. And the donnés (given) were there to assist priests AFTER the early settlement, not BEFORE like implied in that paragraph. Likely inserted by someone who just never read about that topic.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.</small> Godot13 (talk), Sturmvogel 66 (talk), Vanamonde (talk) and Cwmhiraeth (talk).
The capitulation of New France occured in 1760 (Battle of Montreal), not 1759. And the battle of the plain occured after a siege of many months. Summarizing the war to one battle is misleading but desserves the Quebec bashing promoters. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.252.80.31 (talk) 05:16, 31 December 2008 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Hi, sorry about the lack of edit summary, but basically there's one disruptive editor that keeps impeding attempts to rewrite the article to better standards and has been repeatedly putting back in disputed sections without valid sources that everyone's decided would be best to remove for the time being. I was removing one such section. Have a read of the talk page for more background if you like. --88.108.243.214 (talk) 18:49, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

:The editor above is, not to put too fine a point on it, simply lying. Examination of the entry's discussion page will clearly show his assertions to be untrue, indeed in most cases to be the precise opposite of the truth. They are not seeking to improve standards, but merely repeating crude vandalisms to the entry which have been attempted on numerous occasions in the past and removed after debate. This can also be verified from the entry's discussion page. An RfP has been filed in an attempt to prevent this vandalism, and the editor should not be deleting sections until that request has been adjudicated. *Chiming as a member of WP:WINE. A long time ago, the members of the wine project decided it was much more constructive to include all the different types of sparkling wine into one coherent article. It provides much better context for the reader than a litany of stub/start class articles. This is no slack on the part of spumante or Italian sparkling wines. :That is in proportion to the worldwide recognition of Champagne verses the lesser known sparkling wines. In fact, Champagne is even used as a "shorthand" for all sparkling wines....even Spumante, as evidence by the many blog entries dated from yesterday with their tasting notes on the "Champagne" Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante :p. Again, this is nothing to slight spumante, but considering the worldwide audience of Wikipedia everything should be kept in proportion and due weight to the grand scheme of things. In Huggle, go to System -> Options -> Reverting, and you can add specific edit summaries that will appear under the list for "Revert this revision" (i.e., the arrow next to the big red sphere). You can also add them by going to your huggle.css page and changing the code per these variables. Note that I am using 0.7.12, but I don't think that the newer versions are much different. :Yeah unfortunately I don't know if you can add custom "revert + warn" entries. You have to do them separately by adding entries to System -> Options -> Reverting and System -> Options -> Templates. ::::correct. you have been the de facto coordinator. i'm basically trying to accomplish two things: 1- make it easier for newcomers to the project to know who to contact and 2- more importantly, as per the wikiproject guide, give some people responsibility for the administrative tasks involved in maintaining and growing the project. i know i'm new to the project so i hope i'm not speaking "out of turn" it's just that i'm eager to see the project grow. depending on how you feel, i'd like to put the following up on the project's talk page for consideration:

{| class="wikitable" border="1"
|To coordinate the "inner workings" of our WikiProject, I propose the implementation of a coordinator department to be responsible for the maintenance tasks of the WikiProject. Therefore, the proposal is as follows:

* Establishment of a coordinator department with 1 Lead Coordinator and a multiple Coordinators to each serve terms of 12 months.
* Any member of the project can volunteer to be a coordinator. The coordinator page (to be created) will have a section where members can submit their name for consideration, and other members can indicate whether they support or oppose. After a set period of time (2 weeks?), a coordinator will indicate whether the user has been accepted.
* At the end of the term, coordinators can resubmit their name for another term.
* There is no limit to the number of coordinators.
* The Coordinators will be responsible for:
** Publication of the project newsletter.
** Be the contacts for the WP Council.
** Maintenance of the project templates.

** Maintain the Collaboration of the Week
** All other "maintenance tasks" that the project requires.

NJSIAA athletic conferences?
I was just wondering if you know of any more NJSIAA conferences besides the ones listed in "Category:New Jersey high school athletic conferences"? If you take a look at the NJSIAA Wikipedia page, go to the bottom and check out all the navboxes I've created over the past week. I'd like to account for ALL New Jersey high schools, including the ones independent of NJSIAA jurisdiction (e.g. St. Benedict's) but I don't know of any other conferences. Could you help me out if you ge tthe chance? Thanks. -Jrcla2 (talk)(contribs) 04:51, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Alansohn. In case you did not receive my response on my Talk page, I'll just reinsert the message here on your talk page. If you agree that listing a few stores on a mall article would not classify as 'puffery', then why exactly did do you remove the list of stores then? If you agree that simply having a list of a few stores isn't 'puffery', then I'm glad we both have a mutual understanding. I'd imagine you would consult with me if you have any issues. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding unsigned comment added by Freeholdman12 (talk • contribs) 5 June 2023 (UTC)</small>

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! :::With respect Alansohn why is Lassesen justified in calling me and other editors unknowledgeable, with an "empire" and all of other attacks he makes on us here and on talk pages, like saying people that do not agree on him have a pro psychological POV? I do not have any relation on CFS, I am not a patient a doctor and I do not even like psychology! Lassesen tho is a well-known internet activist, he said so on his talk, who opposes proven treatments for CFS and promotes alternative medicine remedies. That is great, I think it is good he is so active and i respect him and his views, but it is not how we write medical articles at WP, it is not a place for activism and experimental research.
:::Chronic fatigue syndrome is a medical article, it should be most based from peer review secondary sources in major journals. I have tried explain this. Self published books and obscure primary sources from journals which do not exist any more are not best sources for medical articles.
:::I am thinking, Lassesen has alot of knowledge and alot to say on CFS, but i am hoping, he will try and learn more about Wikipedia guidelines and not be so confrontationing. The annual hackey sac competition is very well received from the raiders. They hack using a "Raider Sac." This sport can be very brutal and has resulted in 5 injuries in the past 7 tournaments. The raiders often challenge students of Colonel Gray High School to participate. The Rural and Gray has had a long rivalry and Raiders often refer to it as "The Gay." This is shown as disrespectful. I created the anti-vandalism "Piano non troppo" account to save my serious work from vindictive vandals. I discovered that I enjoyed the anti-vandalism process. In fact, it made me feel more a part of the community. My other accounts, with hundreds of hours of painstaking work, got no barnstars. The rate at which those accounts have edits reverted is ten times as high as Piano non troppo's. Apparently other editors recognize my "worth" in part by what other community service I've done. Or perhaps what other edits they can readily evaluate. So, strangely, the anti-vandalism patrol has had unanticipated positive consequences for me. And, maybe, somehow (I see Wikipedia as a social experiment) society is indicating what about my work it values. Less my expertise, than my social participation. I have provided a neutral and factually backed addendum to the delta lodge page..... However i find my slef under due arrest. It seems every time i edit i get deleted, i just feel that if your going to provide a nuetral and objective explanation of the subject you should include all facts, as i have and provded sources. I also concur wi the sentiment that the delta lodge subject matter is not notable seing as how they are a defunct organization (not in good standing at the university of north texas... this organization is not mandated by any governing body. The statement that they are a "fraternity in good standing at the university of north texas is fraudulent. They posses no charter/mandate; they hold sparse residence at best, and were relocated by the city due to alarming concerns. To reiterate i fing the delta lodge page to be an apologists rendition with not factual evidence to back it up... it contains claims that are unfound and jingoistic at best. == Emmanuel de Mérode ==

I urge you to study independent (!!) material about Emmanuel de Mérode, make your mind and act accordingly.
All what happens in Kivu stinks starting by the death of Dian Fossey. Greed and arrogance.
Avoid any material of National Geographic which TV channel is mostly owned by Fox.

Some people are risking their life to help civilian populations in the park of Virungas, while Emmanuel is apparently safely editing his bio from Nairobi.
You should not let Emmanuel de Mérode writing his own bio. Everything in it must be proved.
Due to my viligance, it has been reduced to very little because most of it was pretentious or unubtantiated.
Please study the history of the article.
Please suppress the mention of training as an anthropologist until more precision is given. 82.67.232.89 (talk) 22:00, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Questions about URLs
We'll make preparations for our exciting museum photography Wikipedia Loves Art! February bonanza (on Flickr, on Facebook) with Shelley from the Brooklyn Museum and Alex from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Today I learned about better ways of linking external links with the url template and went to go check the Englewood Cliffs NJ page and noticed your change to use the url template. I feel like an idiot that I wasn't editing with this format and instead using example.com instead.
We'll also be collecting folks to join our little Wikipedia Takes the Subway adventure which will be held the day after the meeting.

Can you tell me a little about why its better to use the url template and if there is any downsides to using it.
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

Thank you so much for the help. 68.173.170.185 (talk) 23:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Baton Rouge Cajun Zydeco Schedule cajunradio - STOP DELETING MY LINK !!!!
The Signpost: 24 December 2024
Why are you objecting to me adding cajun music schedules to cajun music?
It is related and appropriate. It is not promotion. If you would look at it, it is a non-profit website strictly preserving cajun culture and cajun music which is directly related to the cajun music.
Everyone in Louisiana recognizes that www.cajunradio.org is a cajun community resource and not a personal website. Just because it it maintained by Clarence does not make it a personal website. Please review content of links that you delete prior to deleting them! Cajunradio (talk) 04:00, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
:The website in question is largely promotional and adds little to the articles in question. While it is vaguely relevant on some of the articles, in articles such as History of Cajun music the links add absolutely nothing. The pattern of your edits, which seem to add links exclusively to articles related to businesses promoted on the website in question, adds further concerns that WP:EL is being violated. ==Disambiguation link notification for December 29 ==
Dear Sir or Madam,

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Harry F. Guggenheim, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page West End, New Jersey.
I am E. Williams, the firm representing Chief Paul D. Lilly of Texas. We were hired by the Chief to create a Wikipedia Page for him, as he is overwhelmed with requests for information and his background within the Community Policing Field. However, you deleted his page a few hours ago, under the assertion that he was not a "notable" man. The contents of the page are his intellectual property and you are hereby given notice that you must restore the page and its information with 72 hours, or you may be held liable under both USC and International Intellectual Property Laws. Further, because of your actions, a Google search now produces his name and a page that states his profile was removed because you did not feel that he was a notable person. This statement and the posting of such a "flag", constitutes Defamation of Character, and because it is in written form in a public Doman, it also constitutes Slander under both United States and International law (case law and codified statutes).

(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 19:54, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
I will allow you 72 hours to rectify this issue without a demand for compensation for my client's deleted intellectual property. Otherwise my firm will most certainly take appropriate action both against you, and against Wikipedia itself for allowing your actions. If necessary, we will apply for subpoenas to compel Wikipedia to provide your name and complete personal identifiers for appropriate court enforcement action.

I realize alot of activity has been made on that page today (most likely the work of my freshman boys who know alot of their friends will be reading it tonight) but please leave the changes that "make sense" for now. == Frank Prewitt ==

"It appears the author of the "Frank Prewitt" page is no other than J.

I have made attempts to correct his page to reflect reality, but he has it on a watch list and amends each correction to again promote himself." - ACTIVIST (editor)

ALANSOHN: It appears you are well versed in Wikipedia jargon, rules, rights, privileges, and writing. As a fellow user, thank you for your contributions! Two things for you. First, I am not "Frank Prewitt". I do have a spine, and if I was, I would say I was, and not have to deal with the inequities of activist and his/her or its constant barrage of unsubstantiated claims. Like you, I want a fair and true article. Despite my abilities or inabilities according to activist to write such I have really given up. Obviously activist has some type of vendetta against Frank Prewitt. He/she or it continues to subtly change wording to honestly discredit anything and everything I edit. If he or she is so angry they should just call Prewitt (listed in the Anchorage, Alaska phone book)and tell them there feelings instead of blatantly editing in a liable fashion.I have made the section as unbiased as possible given the left leaning opinions of ADN (Anchorage Daily News). In reality the section has all be references and has edited by experienced editors and contributors like yourself, so I see no need for activist continued editing/whining.In my opinion articles are supposed to be fair and balanced stating the good and bad and giving the ultimate reader a real perspective. The article I originally wrote has all of that...not continued "negative press" that has yet to solidify into anything wikipedia worthy, but is hearsay and speculation, as activist continues to edit. I have not idea what kinda of "reality" ACTIVIST believes the Frank Prewitt section should aspire too? I understand and except your edits in regards to Prewitt's book. Point taken, understood. Please advise on additional questions. Again, thank you.

Need your help
I don't want to engage in an edit war with someone, but I feel like the change that I've made to Ohio High School Athletic Association‎ is completely justified, whereas EagleFan doesn't think so. I don't think that listing all high school state champions in every single sport (regardless of the state) is notable. If someone wants to find out then they go to the OHSAA website, not the Wikipedia page on the organization itself. If anything, the list should be its own separate article (at best). Wasting 80,699 kb of space on an article lags the servers, slows down the page load time and for what? To read about non-notable high school achievements. Can you please respond to EagleFan and otherwise show why I am not in the wrong for this please. Thanks. -Jrcla2 (talk)(contribs) 00:35, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

I erased the "hardest language" section in the article "Hungarian language" as it was not scientific in its content but subjective. (As a Wikipedia user I am a novice, and I did not intent any vandalism. Sorry for the misunderstanding.)
<!-- Message sent by User:Epicgenius@enwiki using the list at https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send&oldid=1266471891 -->
What about the merging the article "hardest language" within the article "language learning aptitude"? It is strongly urged in that article by Wikipedia for the same reason I mentioned above. Is that acceptable?

You should TempBan me from editing for now, maybe one day, and i'll see what's wrong with this computer. Saturday April 30, 1-6pm: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa @ Guggenheim
File:Monir Portrait-exh ph021.jpg

On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (88th Street), New York City, New York 10128
Guests should enter using the 88th Street entrance via the ramp at 88th Street and Fifth Avenue

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) ~~~~~

WikiCup 2019 March newsletter

[edit]

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

 • United States L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
 • Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
 • Denmark MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
 • United States Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
 • Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
 • Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! In response to your opinion on Freehold Raceway Mall "puffery"

[edit]

Hi Alansohn. In case you did not receive my response on my Talk page, I'll just reinsert the message here on your talk page. If you agree that listing a few stores on a mall article would not classify as 'puffery', then why exactly did do you remove the list of stores then? If you agree that simply having a list of a few stores isn't 'puffery', then I'm glad we both have a mutual understanding. I'd imagine you would consult with me if you have any issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freeholdman12 (talkcontribs) 5 June 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

[edit]

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

 • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
 • Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
 • Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Editors in good standing (unblocked and without sanctions) are invited to nominate themselves or another editor to be a Guild coordinator (with their permission, of course) until 23:59 on 15 December (UTC). The voting phase begins at 00:01 on 16 December and runs until 23:59 on 31 December. Questions may be asked of candidates at any stage in the process. Elected coordinators will serve a six-month term from 1 January through 30 June.

Drive: In our September Backlog Elimination Drive, 67 editors signed up, 39 completed at least one copy edit, and between them they edited 682,696 words comprising 507 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.

Blitz: The October Copy Editing Blitz saw 16 editors sign-up, 15 of whom completed at least one copy edit. They edited 76,776 words comprising 35 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.

Drive: In our November Backlog Elimination Drive, 432,320 words in 151 articles were copy edited. Of the 54 users who signed up, 33 copy edited at least one article. Barnstars awarded are posted here.

Blitz: The December Blitz will begin at 00:00 on 15 December (UTC) and will end on 21 December at 23:59. Sign up here. Barnstars awarded will be posted here.

Progress report: As of 22:12, 7 December 2024 (UTC), GOCE copy editors have completed 333 requests since 1 January, and the backlog of tagged articles stands at 2,401 articles.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Mox Eden and Wracking.

Questions about URLs

[edit]

Today I learned about better ways of linking external links with the url template and went to go check the Englewood Cliffs NJ page and noticed your change to use the url template. I feel like an idiot that I wasn't editing with this format and instead using example.com instead.

Can you tell me a little about why its better to use the url template and if there is any downsides to using it.

Thank you so much for the help. 68.173.170.185 (talk) 23:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Harry F. Guggenheim, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page West End, New Jersey.

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

[edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
