==Game Play and Development==
==[[Wii Health Pack]]==
The list of activites in Gameplay seems to be quite large and with a lot of white space. I think that they should be reformatted into some form of a table or into a collapsable list in order to appear tidier. Here is a subsection of the table I quickly put together (the rest of it is commented out for clarity), if it looks good to add:

I also personally think that the development section is lacking, focusing too much on MIyamoto's initial design and too little on the actual development. I think that the ''Iwata Asks'' interviews would be incorporated, as they are rich in detail. I have the link to first volume, but references should be created when they are actually used, and I suggest with <code><nowiki><ref name="iwata_volX_Y"></nowiki></code>, where X is the volume number and Y is the page number.

I don't think Wii Fit Plus is notable enough to warrant its own article, especially since the lead of its article states that "the game is an enhanced version of Wii Fit." Aside from some new minigames, activities, and features, it is fundamentally the same game. I liken it to [[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe]], which is basically an enhanced version of [[Mario Kart 8]]; a [[Talk:Mario Kart 8#Merge discussion|discussion in January 2022]] on merging the articles of those two games found unanimous support. *'''Support Merge''' - If this had [[WP:SIGCOV]] to merit its own spinout article I could see it having merit. As I understand it this is essentially Wii Fit 1.5, and it didn't exactly like the journalistic world on fire, so there's not coverage enough to support something standalone when this could easily be merged. --[[User:Teancum|Teancum]] ([[User talk:Teancum|talk]])

:: Nope. Only some Australian Nintendo fan website claims to be it but no official word from Nintendo according to Google News search. :::'''Merge''' Frankly, I think that we can get away with adding a "Wii Health Pack" section to Wii Fit, detailing what Wii Health Pack was all about, the similarities between the two, and the subsequent ambiguity regarding whether Wii Health Pack became Wii Fit. --[[User:Zooba|Zooba]] 05:59, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
'''Oppose''' Wii Fit is a game just like [[Wii Sports]] and [[Wii Play]], so it really needs it's own page, like every single other game on Wikipedia [[User:JayKeaton|JayKeaton]] 16:50, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

:::On the slim chance that the IGN article is wrong, and the "Wii Health Pack" turns out to be a completely different product that just happens to have the same description as "Wii Fit", it'll be easy to undo. Amazon's saying that. Interestingly the NoE website doesn't have a date and is also calling the name Wii Fit now. :The North American release date should be kept as [[May 19]], [[2008]], since the web page your link goes to says [[May 21]] is the "in store" date. From [[WP:VG/DATE]]:
:"Keep in mind that some publishers may advertise a "release date", while some may advertise an "in-store date", and some may advertise both. (See ''[[Metroid Prime 3: Corruption]]'' for an example of both.) Usually, ''but not always'', the "release date" is the date on which the publisher ships the game to retailers, resulting in an in-store date of between one and three days later. :I'm nor sure if this was the case before, but right now most of Nintendo's current material uses the May 19 date. This includes Nintendo.com. Although the Nintendo Channel still uses the May 21 date, it also still lists the release date for [[Summon Night: Twin Age]] as May 20, despite the fact Atlus announced a delay weeks ago. Duhman0009 claims that "The game will only be sold on the 19th (and 20th) at the Nintendo World Store in New York", presumably citing Nintendo's mid-April press release, despite the fact that the press release did not actually preclude availability elsewhere. Regardless, whether or not it is an in-store date doesn't matter, per the guideline Silver Edge quoted previously. May 19 is the date Nintendo is currently using. == "the game in the fishing hut"'s predecessor ==

I believe that instead of using that phrase, we should say it's similar to the game of Labyrinth, where one takes a metal ball, and tilts a board using two dials to guide the ball through a course littered with numbered holes (dictating your score, but usually playing 1-player, it doesn't ''really'' matter.) and a finish marking at the end. This puzzle/game has been used in several games as mini-game fodder, web-games, etc, including the afforementioned fishing hut game, which no-one (myself included) remembers the name it was given. :I am a bit puzzled why my Wii Fit activities edit was reverted.
this was incomplete and inacurate based on the games pre-release information. I now have the game and it is good to let people know what is in the package.

Would have been nice to have more explanation for reverting [[Help:Reverting#Rollback]]- Politeness is needed - as this avoids edit wars and discourages new editors

It was not a game guide [[WP:NOTMANUAL]] - ie how to play nor was it an extensive list. Being an owner it is however accurate.

As for not needing a list of every game activity is concerned - there are plenty of exeptions to this
[[Wii Play]] for example

on a personal note - When I was wondering if to purchase a wii fit I wondered what activities were available.
a small list of the games is helpful

:To me, it just seems an arbitrary extension of a short, acceptable list. If you list all the balance games, why not then list all the yoga poses, all the muscle workouts, etc? As for other articles including long lists, there are plenty of other articles with original research in them, that doesn't justify including it in this one. Possible purchasers of ''Wii Fit'' make up a small percentage of the total readers of the article, and a full list is only of interest to them. [[User:Geoff B|Geoff B]] ([[User talk:Geoff B|talk]])

==Confusion on the Release Date==
It would appear that some anxious Wii fans are in a hurry to get this game. Although Nintendo will sale it at the New York Nintendo World Store on May 19th, it is not the actual release date, the actual release date is when it goes on sale across North America which is May 21th. Just like a sneak peak at a movie is NOT the actual starting date for showing a movie, having the Nintendo World Store selling Wii Fit 2 days in advance does NOT make it the actual release date.

Well maybe it's because THE GAME IS NOT OUT YET!!!! Oh before you even post it, I don't give a crap about any Wikipedia rules I just broke with this post, I have earned the bragging rights after editing this page for 2 days only to have it reverted by Nintendo fanboys with delusions that they could go to their local game store on the 19th and get this game. == Sales in Australia ==

After only 3 days of release, Wii Fit was able to beat out both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA IV and thus became the top-selling game across all platforms in Australia in the week ending 11th May. http://www.palgn.com.au/article.php?id=11516 is the source. == Removed Criticism Section Pertaing to BMI Complaints ==

The criticism should be included on the BMI page. BMI is simply weight divided by height squared. Wii Fit is using a simple and crude metric that most health professionals use (BMI). The limitations of BMI calculations should be posted on a BMI page, not Wii Fit's. Had Nintendo invented the BMI calculation for Wii Fit, I would agree to that criticism being posted here, but they didn't. The BMI page explains all of this in the "Limitations and Shortcomings" section. <small>—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/64.219.163.119|64.219.163.119]] ([[User talk:64.219.163.119|talk]]) 15:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

== To who ever reposts the BMI Criticism ==

The BMI criticisim should be placed on BMI's wiki page. There are legit problems with BMI, and they are already on the BMI page. == Logo or boxart ==

As I understand it, WP:VG is pretty clear about using boxart (for which there is a template fair use rationale available) instead of a logo. This is for copyright reasons, as well as consistency. However, someone recently replaced the boxart that's in place (which was discussed previously on this talk page) with the Wii Fit logo. Is there a particular reason for this? == Reception ==

There has been inclusion of terminology along the lines of "this game has garnered mostly positive reviews". The sentence may be simple, but it comes off as a little NPOV. The fact is, basically the ''highest'' reviews are 80/100, and there are some legit reviews that rate the game much lower. Now I'm not here to judge the merits of the game, but the way I look at it is that Wii Fit basically falls right into the middle of the average reviewed game. I don't feel like we need to say "average" or "moderate" reviews, but rather eliminate any intro sentence trying to sum it up and letting the numbers/reviews speak for themselves. :Well, the gamerankings average is 80% on the game. I think it's kind of odd that a game that's at 80% is full of just negative criticisms. There seem to be a lot of 'some say it's ok, BUT' going on. --[[User:Thaddius|Thaddius]] ([[User talk:Thaddius|talk]]) 16:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

== Stones or stone? ==

Ran out of room on the edit summary! I added a bit to [[stone (mass)]], but basically, it's only "stone" if you're using it as the index unit - so saying "3 stone"; "he weighs 15 stone"; "she lost 2 stone". If you're describing the units themselves, then it's "stones" - "What unit should I use? Stones"; "Common units are kilograms, stones and tonnes". == Need for console ==

Seeing as someone has a bee in their bonnet about this, we perhaps ought to have comment on why the need for a console is irrelevant to the article.<BR>
i) It is not standard on other console game pages list the need for a console.<BR>
ii) The fact that it is a game for the Wii system is already included in the info-box (and indeed in the first sentence).<BR>
iii) Even if the advertisements don't make the need for a console clear in your opinion, they are not our responsibility, nor is it our responsibility to correct any misimpression which may have been received. Again if store assistants don't know, they are not our responsibility. Additionally even if these are the case, the need for a console is listed on the box-art (at least in Europe)<BR>

Game Play and Development

[edit]

The list of activites in Gameplay seems to be quite large and with a lot of white space. I think that they should be reformatted into some form of a table or into a collapsable list in order to appear tidier. Here is a subsection of the table I quickly put together (the rest of it is commented out for clarity), if it looks good to add:

Yoga Strength Training Aerobics Balance Games
Deep Breathing Single Leg Extension Hula Hoop Soccer Heading
Half-Moon Sideways Leg Lift Super Hula Hoop Ski Jump

I also personally think that the development section is lacking, focusing too much on MIyamoto's initial design and too little on the actual development. I think that the Iwata Asks interviews would be incorporated, as they are rich in detail. I have the link to first volume, but references should be created when they are actually used, and I suggest with <ref name="iwata_volX_Y">, where X is the volume number and Y is the page number.

Proposed merge of Wii Fit Plus into Wii Fit

[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I don't think Wii Fit Plus is notable enough to warrant its own article, especially since the lead of its article states that "the game is an enhanced version of Wii Fit." Aside from some new minigames, activities, and features, it is fundamentally the same game. I liken it to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is basically an enhanced version of Mario Kart 8; a discussion in January 2022 on merging the articles of those two games found unanimous support. SmartAn01 (talk) 05:59, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Merge - If this had WP:SIGCOV to merit its own spinout article I could see it having merit. As I understand it this is essentially Wii Fit 1.5, and it didn't exactly like the journalistic world on fire, so there's not coverage enough to support something standalone when this could easily be merged. --Teancum (talk)
