...to see you go. I know you're not someone who likes a fuss being made, but I just wanted to say that I always admired the work you did on Wikipedia, which is a much richer resource because of you, and that you were a huge help and influence when it came to the articles I wrote. While I don't know the circumstances of your retirement, I hope you'll drop in from time-to-time and I wish you all the best in the real world. I'm actually going to be shortly moving to Canada for a year (I have a postdoc at Queen's), so feel free to drop me a line if you end up in Kingston and we could go for a coffee/beer. Josh Milburn (talk) 14:11, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

:Ditto. I have never encountered a person who was so systematic and thorough at assessing others' work. Relax and take care. This place is a time-suck and doesn't pay the bills. We'd be overjoyed to see you come back some time but don't feel forced to. Take care and look after yourself. I think it would suck if the argy-bargy over formatting citations was what killed your enjoyment of the place but if things were taking a course then come what may I guess. Good luck anyway. Ditto for a beer if you ever end up down under. Cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 14:36, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
::I'm just seeing this because I didn't have your talk page watchlisted. This is a rough loss for Wikipedia. I only just found out about this myself, because I was going to let you know about some articles I was working on (Agaricus brunneofibrillosus and Agaricus amicosus). Your input and energy will be missed, and WikiProject Fungi will be decidedly less active without you, I'm afraid. But it's true, Wikipedia is a huge time suck, not always terribly rewarding (recognition generally only comes from other Wikipedians), and at times Wikipedia itself looks on the whole like something not worth contributing to (there are entire sectors of it that are heavy on misinformation), even if one succeeds in putting together a series of top-notch articles. But as The Ed put it, Wikipedia is indeed a better place for your time here. Peter G Werner (talk) 23:05, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, all!

We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time.
Re:OTRS help
The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring.
Sure- I'll get to this tomorrow evening some time. J Milburn (talk) 16:59, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
:Sorry, that worked out a surprisingly busy weekend! In any case, nice work. That would be a brilliant candidate for what valued pictures should be; despite the rarity and EV, it's not at the level of FP, but still, to my eyes, warrants recognition. I'll add it to the portal now. J Milburn (talk) 11:58, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now!

|Scale of justice 2.svg|imagesize=40px}}
Geastrum triplex is an inedible species of fungus belonging to the genus Geastrum, or earthstar fungi. First described in 1840 as Geaster triplex, several authors have suggested that Geastrum indicum, described in 1832, is the legitimate name for the species. Immature fruit bodies are spherical—somewhat resembling puffballs with pointed beaks—and are partially or completely buried in the ground. As the fungus matures, the outer layer of tissue (the exoperidium) splits into four to eight pointed segments which spread outwards and downwards, lifting and exposing the spherical inner spore sac. The spore sac contains the gleba, a mass of spores and fertile mycelial tissue that when young is white and firm, but ages to become brown and powdery. The species is the largest of the earthstar fungi, with a tip to tip length of an expanded mature specimen reaching up to 12 cm. Geastrum triplex is a common and widespread species found in the detritus and leaf litter of hardwood forests in many parts of the world, including Asia, Australasia, Europe, and both North and South America. Fruit bodies have been analyzed chemically to determine their lipid content, and various chemical derivatives of the fungal sterol ergosterol have been identified. The fungus has a history of use in the traditional medicines of native North America and China. (more...)

:*Tough call. Are you European or American? MycoBank lists them as synonyms, they reflect North American naming tendencies. == cyathus ==

hello, Sasata! i had two questions regarding this article and the associated blurb.
* is the count of 45 species no longer accurate? wikipedia's list of cyathus species appears to list 52 species (although it does not seem to be regularly updated). alternatively, on wikispecies, the entry for cyathus has a list of 62 species. i was thinking of replacing the words "45 species" with "more than 50 species" or something similar.
* is it still appropriate to use the present continuous tense to describe the application of phylogenetic analysis? i would not be surprised to learn that phylogenetic analysis is still being applied, but since the first insights were revealed well over a decade ago, perhaps "has been providing" or "has provided" would be more appropriate, depending on how active that area of research currently is.
note that, if both of my proposals are implemented, the blurb may exceed the character limit. i think this can be resolved by replacing "a number of" with "multiple". dying (talk) 22:51, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you today for the article, introduced: "I am nominating this for featured article because I believe it meets the FAC criteria, and I'd really like to adorn it with the illustrious symbol of quality, the bronze star. The article passed GAC without much fanfare, and has been subsequently substantially improved with the help of a number of great suggestions at peer review. This is the first of what I hope will be many FAC submissions from me."! - We miss you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:33, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]

...to see you go. Josh Milburn (talk) 14:11, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto. Cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 14:36, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just seeing this because I didn't have your talk page watchlisted. This is a rough loss for Wikipedia. I hope you'll consider returning at some point—the world is much richer for your contributions here. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 20:16, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Peter G Werner (talk) 23:05, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sasata, I see you edited a few days ago so I'm holding out hope that you'll check in from time to time. Here's another one of yours at TFA, I'll get to work on the TFA text tomorrow. - Dank (push to talk) 20:19, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

[edit]
WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, all!

We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time.

Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges.

Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

[edit]

Hello, Sasata. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

cyathus

[edit]

hello, Sasata! i had two questions regarding this article and the associated blurb.

 • is the count of 45 species no longer accurate? wikipedia's list of cyathus species appears to list 52 species (although it does not seem to be regularly updated). alternatively, on wikispecies, the entry for cyathus has a list of 62 species. i was thinking of replacing the words "45 species" with "more than 50 species" or something similar.
 • is it still appropriate to use the present continuous tense to describe the application of phylogenetic analysis? i would not be surprised to learn that phylogenetic analysis is still being applied, but since the first insights were revealed well over a decade ago, perhaps "has been providing" or "has provided" would be more appropriate, depending on how active that area of research currently is.

note that, if both of my proposals are implemented, the blurb may exceed the character limit. i think this can be resolved by replacing "a number of" with "multiple". dying (talk) 22:51, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:33, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
