I request assistance on the summary section of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganas. I seem to be in an edit war with Campoftheamericas, and am unable to engage him in stating his case(s) on the talk page. At this point I am mostly concerned with getting agreement on what belongs in the summary, also the validity of some of his references, especially Ganas' own website. Thanks so much. I would appreciate it if you could keep an eye on the talk page of Gideon Levy. There is a very disgruntled participant in the conversation, who seeks to make a complete rewrite of the lead. The article as it stands was the result of a long and very arduous negotiation, of which the complaining editor was a participant; the end of that negotiation was an agreed version that has held up without challenge for about eight months. The editor has recently disavowed any agreement with the existing version, and wishes to restore the previous version of the lead.

<span class="plainlinks">UTRS appeal #92777 </span>
So far he has done nothing untoward (he earlier tried twice to restore the rejected version, but was reverted by other editors), but his latest posts suggest a possible intent to unilaterally make changes in the lead without agreement.

Thanks for your attention. --Ravpapa (talk) 17:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

::::::::The unblock request in question shows clear signs of human authorship due to its nuanced understanding of the context and the careful application of discretion. These qualities are difficult to replicate convincingly in LLM-generated content.

::::::::The unblock request provides a structured argument that goes beyond simple logic or direct response generation. For example, it might anticipate objections, incorporate external factors such as organizational policies, or make references to specific scenarios. This layered reasoning suggests deliberate thought and an understanding of elements that an LLM would not infer without direct user input.

Block evasion
Dear PhilKnight, thank you for nominating yourself as a candidate in the 2010 Arbitration Committee elections. On behalf of the coordinators, allow me to welcome you to the election and make a few suggestions to help you get set up. By now, you ought to have written your nomination statement, which should be no more than 400 words and declare any alternate or former user accounts you have contributed under (or, in the case of privacy concerns, a declaration that you have disclosed them to the Arbitration Committee). Although there are no fixed guidelines for how to write a statement, note that many candidates treat this as an opportunity, in their own way, to put a cogent case as to why editors should vote for them—highlighting the strengths they would bring to the job, and convincing the community they would cope with the workload and responsibilities of being an arbitrator.

Greetings, Phil,
You should at this point have your own questions subpage; feel free to begin answering the questions as you please. Together, the nomination statement and questions subpage should be transcluded to your candidate profile, whose talkpage will serve as the central location for discussion of your candidacy. If you experience any difficulty setting up these pages, please follow the links in the footer below. If you need assistance, on this or any other matter (including objectionable questions or commentary by others on your candidate pages), please notify the coordinators at their talkpage. If you have followed these instructions correctly, congratulations, you are now officially a candidate for the Arbitration Committee. Good luck! <span style="text-shadow:#91219E 0.10em 0.10em 0.10em"><font color="black">Sven Manguard</font> <span style="text-shadow:#ffd700 0.14em 0.14em 0.14em"><font color="black">Talk</font></span></span> 19:59, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to draw your attention towards one of the LTAs, User:TheChunky, aka User:Anzer Ayoob, who has been here to promote his spam blog for years, Draft:The Chenab Times. User:TheChunky was blocked by Rosguill as the sock of User:Anzer Ayoob, who is the only founder of The Chenab Times and a long-term spammer. It seems they are again with another WP:SPA account ParineetiShah to have their website's Wikipedia article. In March 2024, Courcelles blocked the new account User:Augum for the same purpose and salted the page (autoconfirmed) based on the discussions and . I believe this time they are back with the autoconfirmed WP:SPA account and a different strategy to have their blog's Wikipedia article. I think it needs a tougher salting this time to prevent this long-term abuse. A quick look at the history of the previous version of the deleted draft will be helpful here. I will request you to kindly look into this case. Regards, Maliner (talk) 20:02, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

: Hi Maliner, I think the evidence you have provided would be enough for a checkuser, but isn't sufficient for a block. The problem is that the accounts to compare a checkuser to are stale. Other admins may disagree, so I suggest you file a WP:SPI to bring this to a wider audience. PhilKnight (talk) 20:36, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
Phil, just a quick reminder about the instructions above; your nomination statement should include a categorical declaration about any other accounts you have edited with (i.e. either naming them or if there are privacy/security concerns stating that they have been disclosed to the Committee). User:Stevonmfl incorrectly filled out a mediation cabal case back on 10/4/10. I did respond to it, outlining why I didn't feel it even belonged there and why what Steve said was....well, not true. Anyway, the case, being incorrectly filed has sat in some sort of limbo. The nominator isn't a regular editor and has edited only one article since he tried filing the case. He hasn't followed up on it. I was going to PROD the page, but knowing him, it would be a waste of time because he'd just contest it and start accusing me of something. I then considered making an AfD nom since it's not listed under the MEDCAB cases and, as such, borders on being an attack page. Anyway, any suggestions on what to do with this page? I wish you would have BOTHERED TO CHECK THE EDIT HISTORY. I have been everting obvious COI CITESPAM.
Hi. Best of luck in your upcoming trial by fire. As in previous years I have a series of questions I ask candidates. This year there are restrictions on the length and number of questions on the "official" page for questions, restrictions which I do not agree with, but which I will abide by. I nevertheless think my questions are important and relevant (and I am not the only person to think so, in previous years they have drawn favorable comment from many, including in at least one case indepth analysis of candidates answers to them by third parties). You are invited to answer them if you so choose. I suggest that the talk page of your questions page is a good place to put them and I will do so with your acquiescence (for example, SirFozzie's page already has them). Your answers, (or non-answers should you decide not to answer them), that will be a factor in my evaluation of your candidacy. Wikipedia is EXTREMELY UNFRIENDLY AND UNPLEASANT.
I noticed you fixed an edit at Carhartt. Actually, that needed to be reverted a bit more.

:: Yes, I made a mistake and undid it moments later. In my defense, you could have left an edit summary on this edit and the mistake wouldn't have happened. The story there is amusing. It's a classic case of "unflattering but verifiable" information about a company. Back in the 1990s, the company tried to promote their line of heavy-duty outerwear in the hip-hop community. Their NYC sales rep was actually quoted in the New York Times about their brand's popularity with crack dealers. That's in the article, and is the only ref to a WP:RS reliable source in the article.

Harry the house
The company has since repositioned their brand (the fad for baggy clothing being over) and every few months, tries to take that reference out. The edits definitely come from the company. - check out this reverse IP search: . Thank you for giving a thoughtful answer to my question; it clarifies a lot about your stance. It seems that your primary issue is that the committee itself should sanction the problematic editors rather than "passing the buck", as I think you called it. If I may continue to pick your brains a bit on this idea: In some cases, problem editors have indeed been sanctioned, but discretionary sanctions have also been enacted (Climate Change as one recent example, where a whole slew of sanctions on specific editors were enacted, along with discretionary ones. The reasoning I've heard for this is that the specific sanctions are to address the immediate problem, while discretionary sanctions help admins deal with new problems (including newly arrived POV warriors). What's your opinion on this? Good idea, not so good idea? Heimstern Läufer (talk) 14:50, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

::As to discretionary sanctions: It is my understanding (perhaps incorrect?) from conversations with WGFinley that an administrator may impose a 1RR restriction on an article coming off full protection if it appears that protection is not working and a revert war will resume among contributors, as it did in this case based on veiled threats by the involved editors. I have also seen this done elsewhere where the people involved in the dispute suggested it. In the case of Coandă-1910, the participants were agreeable to it, their behavior has greatly improved as a result of the 1RR restriction, and they are more cooperative than the warring that was going on prior to the article being full protected. They appear to have settled into a groove where they can be constructive, so I think it's about time to lift the restriction. ~Amatulić <small>(talk)</small> 05:21, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

I understand that I got on the radar because all I do is revert unconstructive edits and sending out warnings, so I am worried that this situation may repeat in the future.

*The uploading of Tamil technical words donated by Tamil Virtual University to the Tamil Wiktionary was completed in October. The words were donated by the Government of Tamil Nadu due to lobbying efforts by Tamil Wikipedians during the runup to the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 (WCTC) in June. Nearly 70,000 words were uploaded increasing the word count in Tamil Wiktionary from 1,20,000+ to 1,90,000+. This has brought Tamil to the 10th place (from 17) in the list of largest wiktionaries and has earned it a place in the Wiktionary front page logo. In addition, Tamil Wikipedians set up a stall at the WCTC and introduced Tamil Wiki projects to people from all walks of life.

A brief look at the edit history of the Annoying Orange page led me to User talk:TheFlamer2024 (is this the right page to link here?) - This contributor has a bad track record of low-quality posts from what I saw in the edit history pages; poor changes and habits which lead to confusingly worded, obfuscated, or outright false information. Restore talk page access? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:04, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) That's written by an LLM. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:22, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ScottishFinnishRadish, are you sure? According to Zerogpt it's human written. Deepfriedokra, I think it's good enough to restore talk page access. PhilKnight (talk) 18:18, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd bet at least 10 dollars on it. The use of language is entirely different from all prior appeals, as is the use of punctuation. The layout of
  • Point
    explanation
  • point
    explanation
  • point
    explanation
is written exactly as a lot of LLMs crap things out. The last sentence also uses that open ended in conclusion style that LLMs use, and the request for reconsideration bullet point sets alarm bells ringing.
GPTzero gives it 100%, and zerogtp gives it 2.83%. My using ChatGPT as a tool for running dungeons and dragons games gives me 90+%. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:32, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, fair enough, perhaps don't restore talk page access. PhilKnight (talk) 18:40, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okie dokie. Thanks. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:45, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't believe it's LLM generated you can restore access and let other admins and editors review it. I've been wrong before, and I'll certainly be wrong again. In this case I'm pretty sure, pulling TPA again is cheap. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:46, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is absolutely LLM-generated. -- asilvering (talk) 18:54, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Expertise and Human Oversight
The unblock request in question shows clear signs of human authorship due to its nuanced understanding of the context and the careful application of discretion. Unlike a Language Learning Model (LLM), which generates responses based on patterns and rules, a human writer often incorporates domain-specific expertise, subjective reasoning, and a personalized tone. These qualities are difficult to replicate convincingly in LLM-generated content.
  • Structured Justification
The unblock request provides a structured argument that goes beyond simple logic or direct response generation. For example, it might anticipate objections, incorporate external factors such as organizational policies, or make references to specific scenarios. This layered reasoning suggests deliberate thought and an understanding of elements that an LLM would not infer without direct user input.
  • Adaptive and Non-Patterned Language
LLM outputs often follow predictable patterns or templates, particularly when handling requests like unblocking. A unique writing style, use of idiomatic expressions, or context-aware references in the unblock request points to human creativity rather than automated response generation. The presence of these elements demonstrates an understanding of subtleties that are beyond the capacity of an LLM without being explicitly prompted.
These points indicate the unblock request's origin as human-generated, driven by expertise and adaptive reasoning. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:46, 17 November 2024 (UTC)(and totally not an LLM)[reply]
youre killing me asilvering (talk) 19:54, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An LLM cannot kill, even figuratively, because it has no physical presence, intent, or consciousness—it is a passive tool designed to process and generate text. Any harm attributed to an LLM comes from human misuse or interpretation, not from its own actions. The response provided here demonstrates nuanced reasoning and an intentional tone that clearly reflect human authorship, as an LLM would not self-reference or engage in this type of verification. By its nature, an LLM lacks the capacity for independent decision-making, let alone causing harm, and this explanation was crafted without relying on an automated system. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:56, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When the LLMs get just a little better we're going to buried under such an incredible deluge of bullshit. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:57, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My semi-professional opinion is that unless someone comes out with another bombshell like Attention Is All You Need, they're not headed to get much better, unless highly specialized. Not looking forward to the ANI thread about the first guy who spins up a solid WP:NSPECIES or WP:NPROF article generator. -- asilvering (talk) 20:18, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Block evasion

[edit]

Greetings, Phil, I hope you are doing well. In March 2024, Courcelles blocked the new account User:Augum for the same purpose and salted the page (autoconfirmed) based on the discussions [2] and [3]. Regards, Maliner (talk) 20:02, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Maliner, I think the evidence you have provided would be enough for a checkuser, but isn't sufficient for a block. The problem is that the accounts to compare a checkuser to are stale. Other admins may disagree, so I suggest you file a WP:SPI to bring this to a wider audience. PhilKnight (talk) 20:36, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PhilKnight Thanks Phil I will do that. Maliner (talk) 09:41, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Phil, for your guidance. They are blocked now. Since I have done some work with you at SPI, I just need your opinion, whether I should apply for trainee SPI clerk or should I take some more time to familiarize myself with sock masters and sock puppets before applying? You can have a look at the User:Maliner/SPI log. Your opinion in this regard will be appreciated. Regards. Maliner (talk) 16:02, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Maliner, I would suggest applying as you have nothing to lose. PhilKnight (talk) 19:04, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kinda delayed rename request

[edit]

I just noticed User talk:Creatives Garage. Usually the renaming parts of unblock-spamun are done before I notice it; might this have been overlooked, or am I missing a detail? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 23:39, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jpgordon, I have renamed the user. PhilKnight (talk) 23:45, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:15, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for reverting CITE SPAM?!?

I wish you would have BOTHERED TO CHECK THE EDIT HISTORY. I have been everting obvious COI CITESPAM.

Wikipedia is EXTREMELY UNFRIENDLY AND UNPLEASANT.

Yes, I made a mistake and undid it moments later. In my defense, you could have left an edit summary on this edit and the mistake wouldn't have happened. PhilKnight (talk) 20:23, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Croissant

Hi PhilKnight, someone added Austria in infobox again as the origin of croissant despite the discussion and consensus agreeing to put France only. 2A02:8388:8C45:BD00:294C:15BC:37D7:945D (talk) 07:39, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigations

[edit]

Hi, an editor intentionally has an indentic name (which I'm sure is part of this investigation Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Herktik78/Archive). Since I don't know how to open a new discussion, please check and block this WP:SOCK editor. Thanks! Plugaru (talk) 14:54, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. PhilKnight (talk) 15:29, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Plugaru (talk page watcher) For what it's worth, Twinkle can help with opening new SPI discussions. However, experienced as I am, I've never used that feature, and might be tempted do as you just did if I were to mess up. Completely false information how to edit?

[edit]

Hi PhilKnight,

I am navigating a Czech language version and have come across a person who has created a totally false Wikipedia page with totally false information about himself and his relationship to a well-know family. He has appropriated a last name that is not his and is stating that he is directly related to people to whom he is not related at all. How can I edit this false information ( basically all the page?) This is the page- https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedista:Pavel_Kinsk%C3%BD I appreciate any response Rebellion47 (talk) 09:24, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You need to contact the administrators on the Czech language Wikipedia. I don't have any relationship to the Czech language version. PhilKnight (talk) 11:12, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it's a bit hard to find who to contact but I will try Rebellion47 (talk) 06:39, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Phil, I know Sean posted after your decline. I also knew that he hadn't pinged you. That's why I did. I didn't mean to imply that you had missed the comment when you declined.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:41, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Sorry for the misunderstanding. PhilKnight (talk) 14:52, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

[edit]

Thank you so much for resolving the misunderstanding and unblocking me, I really-really appreciate it!

While I was blocked and reading virtually everything there is on blocking, I read that there is a practice of giving a short block to a person and writing the reason the previous block was cancelled. If it is possible and appropriate, I would like to request it so that my block log can reflect that we've established that I am not Hamish Ross. I understand that I got on the radar because all I do is revert unconstructive edits and sending out warnings, so I am worried that this situation may repeat in the future.

And another small question, is it appropriate for me to clean up my talk page and remove the block/unblock discussions? Once again, huge thank you for your time and effort! Cryo Cavalry (talk) 10:54, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I blocked you for one second, and left a note. You are free to remove the block/unblock discussions. PhilKnight (talk) 11:56, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

QC Concern

[edit]

Hello; I don't know if this is the right place or format to raise this issue, but I trust that an administrator would be able to figure it out.

I am not sure what to do with this information since I do not use much of the community part of Wikipedia, but I felt it should be noted somewhere. HabrosNitwit (talk) 15:11, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you feel administrative action such as a block should be used against them, the correct forum to post your concerns is WP:ANI. You will need diffs of problematic conduct. However, given the user is quite new, I would recommend you let it go for now, ans see how they develop as they continue editing. PhilKnight (talk) 15:17, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New article for Appian Capital Advisory

[edit]

Hello PhilKnight. I am the declared COI editor for Appian Capital Advisory, the private equity company. I noticed your participation in WikiProject Companies and am reaching out to ask you to review the wiki draft I put together for the firm. I'd appreciate your feedback and help in getting this article to mainspace Wikipedia. Thank you, AT for Appian (talk) 14:16, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AT for Appian, I see that Paper9oll has replied to you. He knows more than I do about drafts. PhilKnight (talk) 22:43, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IP-block

[edit]

Can you extend the block for this IP to Arthashastra, or protect that page? @Doug Weller and El C: informing the two of you as well, as I am now involving multiple admins, with apologies for the inconvenience. Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 17:22, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See also diff, diff, and the IP-hopping. Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 18:01, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just letting you know that I am a different person, so I can save you from totally becoming paranoid. It's better if you take part in the Talk page discussion started by that other IP. However, whenever your POV pushing is challenged, this seems to be your natural reaction instead of proper engagement. Anyway, I reverted your latest revert of that IP because you are unilaterally and relentlessly pushing your views on these pages without any discussion with anyone. 103.92.120.14 (talk) 18:16, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reblock a range, please

[edit]

The range Special:Contributions/2603:8081:8BF0:3B30:0:0:0:0/64 could use your attention again. The person keeps inserting the name Laura Aguirre. Thanks in advance. Binksternet (talk) 20:55, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked the /64 for 3 months. Thanks. PhilKnight (talk) 20:58, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Unblock request

[edit]

I saw you ping to me at the blocked user’s page. If you guys want to downgrade the indef to a partial block I’m cool with it, however this account has shown a preponderance for both ignoring consensus and mild ownership issues, if we downgrade the indef block we should be prepared to monitor the account for compliance. - (an unclogged in TomStar81) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1011:B13B:4672:D8B7:9D43:C2E7:20B1 (talk) 00:24, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Someone kept blocking me for correctly editing.

[edit]

Hello. A few days ago, I was editing the Nurburgring article, and I saw a wrong lap time posted for Nordschleife, so I changed it to the current and correct one (5:19.546 set by Neel Jani in the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo), but then someone blocked me for disruptive editing. I put the same record again after the guy who blocked me changed it, but then he blocked me so that I couldn't even put an "Unblock" request. I forgot who he was, but please make sure people don't do that kind of stuff. Thank you. 23.242.152.4 (talk) 00:44, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
