One Pro Wrestling (abbreviated as 1PW) was a British professional wrestling promotion. 1PW was founded in 2005 by Steven Gauntley. 1 Pro Wrestling (or 1PW) is a new wrestling promotion that is based in Doncaster, England. It is run by the UK's premier wrestling store, 1 Up Games and chaired by Steven Gauntley.

History
Early days
The promotion was founded in 2005, and went into liquidation in 2007; however, they would restart within the same year, until August 2013, when they announced their closure.
1PW was formed at the beginning of 2005, with the aim of becoming Britain's number one (hence the name) wrestling promotion. It soon attracted big-name stars such as D-Lo Brown, Matt Hardy and Abyss. Joe Dombrowski and Anthony Kingdom James, the announce team for International Wrestling Cartel, were hired. 1PW announced that it's first show was to be held on October 1, 2005 and was to be called '1PW A Twist Of Fate' as a thankyou to Matt Hardy for appearing.

Relaunch
A Twist Of Fate
On 11 April 2022, One Pro Wrestling announced its return, with its first event, A New Twist of Fate, taking place on 1 October at the Doncaster Dome. Rob Van Dam, Jamie Hayter, Mickie James, Christopher Daniels, Cara Noir, Nick Aldis appeared on the show, with the event being shown on FITE TV. A follow-up event (No Turning Back) scheduled for 18 February 2023 included the 1PW debut of Will Ospreay taking on the hometown wrestler in Robbie X. John Morrison and Rhyno also debuted in Lincoln.
Several more international stars signed up to be part of 1PW. These included Low Ki, Chris Sabin and Raven. Several UK wrestlers also signed on the dotted line, Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm to name but two. 1PW looked to be having an incident-free debut.

On 22 April 2023, 1PW returned to the Doncaster Dome with All or Nothing. Will Ospreay was crowned the first 1PW World Heavyweight Champion since the re-launch, meanwhile Robbie X won the Openweight Championship, Boisterous Behaviour won the Tag Team Championships and Lizzy Evo became the inaugural 1PW Women's World Champion.
That was until the infamous Matt Hardy sell-out. 1PW lost it's main draw for the night and with that, a lot of casual fans and the show name (WWE trademarked the Twist Of Fate). It also left Abyss with no opponent. With mere days to spare, it was announced that The Phenomenal AJ Styles had signed a contract to work the main event at the renamed A Cruel Twist Of Fate.

On 8 September 2023, Will Ospreay announced that he would not work for 1PW again, amid accusations that the promotion had not paid employees, including current Openweight Champion Robbie X. On 15 September 2023, One Pro Wrestling confirmed that all of their championships had been vacated.
2006
Everyone present agreed that the night of A Cruel Twist Of Fate was a fantastic debut for 1PW. It also annouced it's next shows, No Turning Back, to be held on January 7, 2006 at the Doncaster Dome and January 8, 2006 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England. 5 other superstars were signed to appear on both nights, The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Charlie Haas, FMW Legend Masato Tanaka and Sabu all with raucous reception. Unfortunately, the Blackpool show was quickly cancelled due to legal complications with the Winter Gardens, so a second show was added on January 6, 2006 also at the Doncaster Dome. Also added to the lineup shortly before the event were Harry Smith and Ulf Herman.

On 27 September 2023, former 1PW announcer Joe Dombrowski made a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), accusing 1PW owner Steven Gauntley of deceptive business practises and fraud. Shortly afterwards, wrestler Matt Cardona, who had been advertised to compete for the 1PW World Heavyweight Championship in a future show, announced that the show had been cancelled, revealed issues he had with receiving payment from 1PW in the past and claimed that Gauntley was refusing to respond to messages from him.
1PW's increased reputation meant that it had sold out the 1600 seater Doncaster Dome , as well as 450 Q&A tickets for the Saturday afternoon.

The following day to Dombrowski's accusations, Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, which operate the Doncaster Dome announced they were suspending ticket sales on all future 1PW shows at the venue whilst investigations into the allegations took place. Meanwhile, the official 1PW website and social media accounts went offline.
Again, 1PW impressed with a pair of good shows over the No Turning Back weekend. Their next shows were announced on the Saturday night, both at the Doncaster Dome, both called All Or Nothing. They we're held on March 4, 2006 and the 5 March, 2006. Appearing at the event along with the normal wrestlers we're 2 Cold Scorpio, Rhino and Captain Charisma himself, Christian Cage.

On 29 September 2023, 1PW's Instagram account announced that the company had ceased trading and all future events had been cancelled.
Unfortunately, both Masato Tanaka and Steve Corino have been recalled by Zero-One due to their working agreement with HUSTLE promotions in Japan and therefore did not appear at All Or Nothing. The replacement for the pair was Austin Aries

Championships
All Or Nothing was another great success for 1PW. A fantastic show was topped by the announcement of 1PW Tag Team Titles to be competed for at Know Your Enemy on 26 May and 27 May, 2006. Abyss became 1PW's first World Heavyweight Champion when he won a title tournament, defeating AJ Styles in the final.

One Pro Wrestling (abbreviated as 1PW) was a British professional wrestling promotion. 1PW was founded in 2005 by Steven Gauntley. Originally run by the now defunct retail chain 1 Up Games, the company's headquarters were located in Doncaster.[1]

Early days

[edit]

The promotion was founded in 2005, and went into liquidation in 2007; however, they would restart within the same year, until August 2013, when they announced their closure.[2]

Relaunch

[edit]

On 11 April 2022, One Pro Wrestling announced its return, with its first event, A New Twist of Fate, taking place on 1 October at the Doncaster Dome.[3] Rob Van Dam, Jamie Hayter, Mickie James, Christopher Daniels, Cara Noir, Nick Aldis appeared on the show, with the event being shown on FITE TV. A follow-up event (No Turning Back) scheduled for 18 February 2023 included the 1PW debut of Will Ospreay taking on the hometown wrestler in Robbie X. John Morrison and Rhyno also debuted in Lincoln.

On 22 April 2023, 1PW returned to the Doncaster Dome with All or Nothing. Will Ospreay was crowned the first 1PW World Heavyweight Champion since the re-launch, meanwhile Robbie X won the Openweight Championship, Boisterous Behaviour won the Tag Team Championships and Lizzy Evo became the inaugural 1PW Women's World Champion.[1][4]

On 8 September 2023, Will Ospreay announced that he would not work for 1PW again, amid accusations that the promotion had not paid employees, including current Openweight Champion Robbie X.[5] On 15 September 2023, One Pro Wrestling confirmed that all of their championships had been vacated.[6]

On 27 September 2023, former 1PW announcer Joe Dombrowski made a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), accusing 1PW owner Steven Gauntley of deceptive business practises and fraud. Shortly afterwards, wrestler Matt Cardona, who had been advertised to compete for the 1PW World Heavyweight Championship in a future show, announced that the show had been cancelled, revealed issues he had with receiving payment from 1PW in the past and claimed that Gauntley was refusing to respond to messages from him.[7]

The following day to Dombrowski's accusations, Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, which operate the Doncaster Dome announced they were suspending ticket sales on all future 1PW shows at the venue whilst investigations into the allegations took place. Meanwhile, the official 1PW website and social media accounts went offline.[8]

On 29 September 2023, 1PW's Instagram account announced that the company had ceased trading and all future events had been cancelled.[9]
