Jauerback, you blocked Jim for WP:3RR. Why? Surely, his reverting was justified. He's a patroller. WP:3RR does have exemptions. And regardless, WP:Common sense should also be considered, as it was in this case where Fish and karate semi-protected an article after I repeatedly reverted an IP who continued to add unsourced material after I advised the IP to stop and with the IP having no intent to discuss, and after I requested at WP:Requests for page protection that the article be semi-protected. That is not a case where I should have been blocked. Jim is a very valuable patroller. He often takes the time to address problematic concerns. He doesn't blindly revert. == Strangeness while reverting IP at List of natural disasters by death toll ==

*Props to WBG for voicing out in an attempt to stop the bias against new editors but Jim is an experienced editor who has been reverting vandalism for over 7 years and blocking him isn't the best way to resolve things. Sure, he screwed up this one by edit warring but the block was too harsh because he was only "removing unsourced content" and the new user kept testing his patience. Please unblock him and let it be done. <u style="font:1.1em/1em Arial Black"><u style="color:#7f2ed1">Flooded </u><u style="color:#bfa6d8"><small>with them </small></u><u style="color:#7f2ed1">hundreds</u></u> 08:04, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
After I saw your revert of IP:203.100.2.69, I checked the page history and noticed that my previous revert of the same IP had only reverted two of the user's three edits prior to my revert. The edit made to section Avalanches just prior to my revert was still there. I was surprised I didn't get an edit conflict there, but there is more: When I then tried to restore the page to the clean Feb 20 version by User:Shrigley, I hit save and nothing happened. I was taken to the current visible version of the page, and there was no record of my edit anywhere. When I tried it again for a second time, it worked fine. Just for own my curiosity sake, would you happen to have any explanation for what just happened to me with all that? It was kind of strange. --Racerx11 (talk) 04:46, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
:Glad you caught it! Your first revert does not seem to have gotten any specific set of edits by the IP. A diff of yours and any of the three does not show an empty diff such as this diff. ::Yeah I think I see what you mean. This diff of mine does not include the individual edits made to the avalanche section, even though that revision is displayed as the prior one. Odd. I suppose this may be some sort of glitch. I have recently just started using Twinkle so maybe that has something to do with it.

::I have seen stranger things now that I think about it. I reminds me of the time cluebot reverted some vandalism, the letters "lol", but the letters remained on the visible page for several hours, even though the "lol" was nowhere to be found in the edit window. Both myself and another editor tried to delete what we thought was a hidden code or something, but none of our attempted edits were showing up in the edit histories or anything. There wasn't even any record of the edit that ultimately resulted in the vandalism being removed the visible page. That one really had me scratching my head.--Racerx11 (talk) 05:17, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Jim1138, I've unblocked you because this situation spiraled out of control a little, and I'm hoping it gets back on track. I'll unblock both of you, and maybe we can reboot. While I'm not sure a block was needed here, in this case I think reverting was too much; newbies need a little room to learn, and in the end they were providing a source in their edit summary. Hope you either come back right away, or take some time off, whichever works out best for you, but you're valued here by many people, so I'm hoping you come back eventually. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:57, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Note for people watching: This isn't a rogue unblock, the blocking admin said somewhere (I think on Ritchie's talk page) that someone could unblock if they thought it best. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:58, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

*Jauerback noted on Ritchie's talk page they'd be fine with an unblock if it was deemed to harsh for a newbie, so that would be the other editor, but fair's fair, and I certainly agree with the unblock. Even if somebody did think it was a rogue unblock (I don't), it's got consensus now so it couldn't be anyway. To be honest, I expected to have a conversation about ten minutes after the block along the lines of "Hey, I got carried away, can be unblocked?" "Sure, unblocked. As you were", which I think happened last time.
Part of the problem is that you were incorrectly removing Alice0000's fixes to the references. Adding the deletion template is correct and necessary, but that doesn't mean that you can remove the necessary info in the refs at the same time. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:00, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Jim, I think there's a pretty broad consensus you do a very important job for the project. I have seen first hand some of the really nasty vandalism that's been cropping up recently, and seen you getting to it quickly and without fuss. I think there's a general feeling that we all want you to stay. Would you reconsider? :I have Jim's email and have been in discussion with him about matters, including the block. He's disabled the option for Wikipedians to email him, but I will let him know that editors appreciate his work and want him to return. So far regarding the block, I've only noted to him that I hope he returns. I haven't yet responded to his latest reply, which, in part, states he is not willing to come back. But he might change his mind. As we know, it's often that editors change their minds about retiring and then return. Jim: I am well acquainted with the concept of citations to authority. I am retired from an occupation where the rules of appellate procedure permit the imposition of monetary sanctions against someone who files a brief with the court that includes assertions of fact without citations to the record.

Happy new year and pls come back soon - we value your work and service
I just could not pass up the irony. I watched the movie "The Water Elephant" and was moved to learn more about elephants. Naturally, I came to Wikipedia. I probably visit Wikipedia five times a day on average. Near the end of a very informative and well-written article about elephants there appeared a section that began, and I paraphrase: "What follows is unconfirmed and, basically, rural myth." That is followed by a funny, but unlikely, tale of bad behavior (by human standards) by drunken elephants. I laughed out loud. Drunken elephants? Seriously? How much liquor must be "inadvertently" left out to render an elephant intoxicated? Five elephants? The whole idea is absurd on its face. And then when I got to the part about the people chasing the misbehaving elephants, I could not help but surmise that those very same people who were drinking so much that they inadvertently left out enough liquor to intoxicate multiple elephants were surely very intoxicated themselves. So basically I had two intentions: (1) float the suggestion that the "unconfirmed reports" were more likely describing, basically, a bar fight between drunken humans and elephants and; (2) hope that the Wikipedia busybody who came to revert might possibly notice the irony in reverting for lack of citation an addition to a long paragraph that begins "unconfirmed reports… ." I originally posted the The Dragon Family (disambiguation) in the sandbox, then asked stigmaWP (on irc) to put it live. But now we are wondering about the redlink dab policy. I'm looking if enough material is available to create an article about The Dragon Families_(gang) and/or The Dragon Family_(Families) (or some title like that)

{| style="background-color: #fdffe7; border: 1px solid #fceb92;"
According to the court case the families are the owners of almost all US bonds. But I would need a reliable source that dares to talk about that. For the dab to have a right to exist it only needs 2 entries. This is why I removed the gangsters, I'm not much interested in working at that.

Invitation to attend a Southern California Regional mini Unconference
Thank you for reverting my talk.
It sounds to me that the user Narenpublic is Narendra Rocherolle, one of the founders of Webshots and this could be the reason for which he might have an interest in giving the article a positive bias. As a matter of fact, the user Looper72 has created a Wikipedia article on Narendra Rocherolle and has linked the Webshots article to it (Please note that this is the only founder with a Wikipedia Article on him).

Kindly, could you please check the talk page on Mr. Rocherolle's page and revise the case? In all honesty it sounds to me like an autobiography (discouraged by Wikipedia). At least another editor noted "Tagged as adver -> Reads like a Résumé", and deleted Mr. Narendra's twitter account link. Thanks! Jlascar 12:17, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

::First of all, my edits were intended to fix damage by another user (User:WarriorsPride6565), who deleted random words all over the Tanka people article, then added gramatically and factually incorrect information to Miscegenation and Interracial marriage. Reread the previous versions of those sections, and tell me if the English is correct. You may have mistook my large reference templates (with google book links and quotes), as me adding massive amounts of material to the article, and promptly assumed I was vandalizing. Or, if you were looking at the massive blocks of text I pasted, those may have been public domain works which are out of copyright, I am quite liberal with using them.

Please add your username to our attendees list so we know how many will be attending, due to the limited size of the cafe.
::Secondly, you claimed since my references were books they "do not seem to be easily accessibly". If you looked at my reference templates, you would actual see that I included direct links to google books in every single one of them. See Tanka_people#References. you can see the text of the book yourself.

Concern regarding Draft:Tathacharya
Hello, Jim1138. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Tathacharya, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Draft space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for article space.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion under CSD G13. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.
Vpayez - Hodgkin Huxley model and similar pages
If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available here.
Jim1138: I am brand new to Wikipedia and want to serve and do a good job of contributing. I had added a published reference (one that can be easily substantiated as valid) to the Hodgkin-Huxley model (and similar) pages. You wrote and said "Please make sure to include an edit summary." First, what does this mean? Hello, Jim1138. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Tathacharya".
Please explain to me why I shouldn't block you for violating the three revert rule at Arabs in Turkey. Magog the Ogre (talk) 16:52, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply Draft:Tathacharya and remove the db-afc, db-draft, or db-g13 code.
Actually I've just gone ahead and blocked the account, because I can't see any rationale under WP:3RR for which you should be exempt. Magog the Ogre (talk) 17:45, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

User talk:Azadmaster first changes it to 60,000 then to 200,000 and did not remove the source. It looks like "factual errors" and an attempt to "scrub" Arabs from Turkey to me. I had been informed that reverting vandalism was not limited by 3RR, after reading WP:NOT3RR, I could see how this does not necessary fall into the exemption. I'm not familiar with the ways of doing this and I see there is a lot of hostility toward that but will you please explain to me how my change was vandalism. I understand that it was unsigned and unexplained but it was a poorly constructed sentence with with a fallacy and I improved it. My change makes the criteria fit the previous definition in the Importance Assesment section of the page.--76.182.236.144 (talk) 04:47, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
:Thanks for leaving me a note and asking. I hope this helps. I flagged your revert as vandalism as you essentially said so yourself: Undid revision 480437886 by Jeff G. (talk) to get your attention.. Idk if you just automatically revert things or what but I'd like to see it discussed as to why this makes sense. If you edit a page, it is best to leave an wp:edit summary so that others understand your reasoning. That was the basis for Jeff G's removal of your edit ("Unexplained removal of content") If your edit will likely be controversial, it is best to leave a comment in the talk page and ask for others opinion. There are a number of individuals who monitor edits Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol. If an edit looks suspicious and there is not an edit summary (or it does not make sense), it is often removed. BTW: some atheists do read religious material for discussion / arguement and are very familiar with the topics. If you have a question, ask. == Do you know anything about the community of Brookhaven? ==

Hello Jim1138,
The article for the community Brookhaven posted on Wikipedia contained propaganda designed to promote the city hood of Brookhaven. A close check of the statement by the Georgia Senator posted proves Brookhaven is not entirely located in Dekalb County.
It is fraught with false information that even a Google check can disprove.
The majority of the schools and parks claimed to be in "Brookhaven" are located in other communities or cities.
The population is that of many surrounding communities combined. <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by TheTimeTraveler2025 (talk • contribs) 08:43, 8 March 2012 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

AA has monopolized the recovery market and people should have all the information they can get regarding addiction. The link i provided was published in The Skeptic magazine its not my own research and its doing nothing more than allowing people to think for them selves. I'm sorry if you disagree. but as a recoved addict myself i truely believe in what medication can do. I've been to hundreds maybe thousands of AA meetings they just drove me back to drinking and using.; having to sit there for hours listening to people talk about there drug and alcohol usage isnt the best way to keep you clean...just my opinion though. and im not puting my opinion on there im offering other options. I am new to the whole wikipedia thing. but people have the right to decide what works best for them and it is nearly impossible to find any alternatives tp twelve step. Hey, Jim. Take a break and revisit your decision. Ping me if you need to vent. Tiderolls 16:19, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, your anti-vandal efforts are highly valued by a number of editors including me, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 18:30, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 19:13, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 • Props to WBG for voicing out in an attempt to stop the bias against new editors but Jim is an experienced editor who has been reverting vandalism for over 7 years and blocking him isn't the best way to resolve things. Sure, he screwed up this one by edit warring but the block was too harsh because he was only "removing unsourced content" and the new user kept testing his patience. Please unblock him and let it be done. Flooded with them hundreds 08:04, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

Hi Jim1138, I've unblocked you because this situation spiraled out of control a little, and I'm hoping it gets back on track. I'll unblock both of you, and maybe we can reboot. While I'm not sure a block was needed here, in this case I think reverting was too much; newbies need a little room to learn, and in the end they were providing a source in their edit summary. Hope you either come back right away, or take some time off, whichever works out best for you, but you're valued here by many people, so I'm hoping you come back eventually. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:57, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note for people watching: This isn't a rogue unblock, the blocking admin said somewhere (I think on Ritchie's talk page) that someone could unblock if they thought it best. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:58, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 • Jauerback noted on Ritchie's talk page they'd be fine with an unblock if it was deemed to harsh for a newbie, so that would be the other editor, but fair's fair, and I certainly agree with the unblock. I think Jauerback, whom I know as eminently reasonable and collegial, agrees. Thanks Floq. Jim, hope to see you here again. If not: thanks for the work you've done for our beautiful project, and fare thee well. Drmies (talk) 18:02, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
...oh... I misread that a little, sorry. I guess it was a rogue unblock after all. Wasn't intended to be. --Floquenbeam (talk) 18:04, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late."-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 18:43, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ponyo: great quote. Jim, hope you come back. I'm one of the ones who value you. Doug Weller talk 18:47, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jim, I think there's a pretty broad consensus you do a very important job for the project. I have seen first hand some of the really nasty vandalism that's been cropping up recently, and seen you getting to it quickly and without fuss. I think there's a general feeling that we all want you to stay. Would you reconsider? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:22, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have Jim's email and have been in discussion with him about matters, including the block. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 01:20, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I also hope that you return, Jim. In any case, thank you very much for your contributions. —PaleoNeonate10:45, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin

Hello Jim1138,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

(talk page stalker) @Mikehawk10: doesn't look like Jim edits anymore, but I went ahead and restored the redirect that was present before that SPA turned the page into a promo. I'm sure an upcoming movie featuring actors like Gerard Butler and Quvenzhané Wallis will eventually be notable, but a redirect is appropriate for now.
